Who Turned The Lights On? - podcast cover

Who Turned The Lights On?

Formerly Trauma Informed Growth. Life after Complex-PTSD, and just beyond those first stages of recovery, is a lot like having someone turn the lights on after years navigating in the dark. On this side of it, I reckon a lot more can be done to improve the sign posts that mark the way out. This podcast exists to discuss life in the dark, compare notes on mapping the way out, and explore what life is like with the lights on.

S2:E23- The Underbelly of Sex Addiction. This Is Recovery With Rob Watt and Dr. Kirsty Loudon

This is my first episode inspired by a few listeners who have been in touch with me to share how sex addiction has disrupted, or is disrupting their lives. I went looking for answers only to find two world-class experts in the area of Sex Addiction: Dr. Kirsty Loudon and Rob Watt. Dr. Kirsty, Rob and myself have connected a few times over a couple of months to organise the content for this episode. We have distilled the information into two key questions: "How do I know I have a Sex Addiction vs...

S2:E21 - The Ugly Sides To Recovery And The Daily Practice That Brings In the Beauty

This episode is a more candid look at the uglier sides of recovery as I reflect on the last 10 days or so where I have been all sorts of dysregulated, and then irritated that I am still 'falling down', and the honest look I had to take at what I am 'really' doing about my recovery. As it goes, what I am doing pales in comparison to what I let myself BELIEVE I am doing. I share what I am doing now, in case it should inspire your own version. I also talk briefly about the 3 distinctions I have bee...

S2:E20 - Unpacking: 1. Being In Your Body and 2. Engaging Body Work, To Expedite Healing

I share the clarity I have gained, some distinctions I've made, and some suggestions on how and where to start. Starting is what matters most here. This is the episode where I unpack two areas that matter a lot when it comes to: healing, recovery and shifting out of the chaos of emotional overwhelm, emotional numbing, and emotional exhaustion, and into a space that feels really good to be in, even when stressful spaces, places and faces pop up. That means understanding; the body's role in your h...

S2:E19 - This Self Regulation Practice Has Made All The Difference

An episode that looks at one of the most important tools that I've used to transform my life from chaos and trainwrecks, to calm and having all sorts of fun thriving. 2 years ago I didn't quite get the value of this practice; I read a few books, watched a few videos and gave it a go. Today? I realise if I had it to do all over again - this journey out of the proverbial void - I would do it quite differently. In this episode I share what, why, where, how of Self Regulation and compare and contras...

S2:E17 - Highly Successful, Fabulous at Life & Secretly in Despair. This is Zara's Story.

#CPTSD #MyStory - This is my first episode from the "My C-PTSD Story" theme. Zara joins me to share her experience of life before she was diagnosed with C-PTSD, what it was like in the early days of the diagnosis, and what life in recovery can feel like. A powerful story from the 'highly successful, fabulous at life, secretly in despair' lens that finally brought Zara to a grinding halt. This story is shared to inspire you, remind you that you are not alone in this, and reassert that there is a ...

S2:E16 - Those Uncomfortable Emotions Are The Way In, If We Are To Find Our Way Out

I cover a lot of ground in this episode including some real life examples from the past few weeks to set up some new insights on: co-regulation, self-regulation, emotional regulation (or the absence there of - dysregulation) before sharing the practice I am inside of to find my way out, along with a wee stopover to Carl Jung's two cents where he says: "Unless you make the unconscious, conscious, it will rule your life and you will call it fate." So in a nutshell, this episode is really about tho...

S2:E15 - The 3 Yr Old Ninja That Had Me Emotionally Dysregulated Today

I’ve had an emotionally dysregulated morning. I use this episode to share my current observations of what is happening, the 3 Year old Ninja that brought this on, what I’m doing to self regulate and how I am connecting some dots. This morning's experience has also expanded my 4 part framework of c-PTSD recovery to include a 5th stage. I sense there will be 6th stage in the coming weeks. Of course, I offer only one lens on a subject that deserves a far deeper review of it. This episode takes a look at what it looks like when one is lost in the void, the likely destinations your route through the void will drop you off in ,and what you can do to get out of the proverbial Void, or if you've travelled long enough, how to get out of that destination you may have ...

In this episode, I want to explore this subject, as I have done several times in the past. Only this time, through the brain-body-mind lens. Up until a few years ago, my examination of this subject was largely mind-over-matter, a truly futile endeavour. “I know what I am supposed to do, but I just can’t do it!” The reality is we do know. The challenge is we just can’t act, not in an authentic, inspired, fun-to-do-it kind of way. We will look at Brain-Body Dysregulation, Bottom Up resources, Alig...

Way too many professionals with unresolved trauma in their past have a tumultuous relationship with money. Simply put, there is typically an ongoing shortage with a whole lot of chaos.
