I Cant Work With My X - Ep 310

Anyone that has ever been a parent knows that parenting can be challenging. Sometimes half the battle is between the parents and not the kids. We often see what is called Parental Alienation between parents and their kids. One parent intentionally or not, making it more difficult for the other parent to be involved in their kid's life. This can be...

Who Are You Mentoring? Ep 302

Recently, Merrill and Linda saw the movie, The Forge. Without spoiling the movie for you, we would highly recommend it! The movie brings about the topic of mentoring and why it is so important. Seldom can we learn everything from a book or even a classroom. We often learn best from the wisdom of those that take a special interest in us and are willing to poor into our growth. This may be parent, but just as likely it is a coach, teacher, or family friend. It is someone that has seen something in...

Ask Us Anything - What is Adoption and Fostering Really Like? 296

The story of Possum Trot is what inspired our question this week. In the movie, Sound of Hope, the little town of Possum Trot in east Texas was absolutely moved by the Holy Spirit. Donna Martin, wife of preacher, WC Martin, became moved by the number of children in need of a home. She began to look into the idea of fostering and adoption. Her husband was initially not moved at all. In fact, he resisted the whole idea. As only the Holy Spirit can work, it didn't take long for WC to join in with t...

Are You Ready? The Parable of the 10 Virgins speaks to all of us. Ep 292

Being prepared is the name of the game for first responders. They must be prepared to walk into the most difficult of situations and do the right thing. We would do well to treat our life journey in a similar fashion. No matter the day, we must be prepared to walk through difficult times and do the right thing. But, the question is, "What's the right thing?" In the parable of the 10 Virgins we learn that the right thing is being prepared to meet God on the day of judgement. Are we ready to meet ...

Here are six ways that the Father responds to us so that we can respond the same to our children. Unconditional Love: The father's love transcends the son's rebellion. How's Your Dirt? Is your life-soil fertile enough to produce the crop you desire? Ep 290

Jesus frequently spoke in parables to teach the people of the day. The parables sometimes seemed to be not so straight forward. Almost like riddles. He then makes the point that those who do not have the heart and mind to hear them will not understand them. His point simply being that you have to be prepared and ready to receive the Word of God. Sometimes the word is referred to as the "seed". This is the Parable of the Sower or sometimes called the Parable of the Four Soils. Jesus tells about 4...

"But I didn't Sleep With Them" - Emotional Affairs - Ep 289

Not many would question whether or not having an affair can be very destructive to a marriage. Some may argue that it can spice up your marriage or make life more interesting, but if we have to be honest, we at Rock Solid Families have never seen that outcome. Infidelity comes at a cost and often it is the price of divorce and brokenness. But what if we go so far as to connect with someone else through sharing of conversation, dreams, and even time together, but don't go so far as having sex? Em...

Are We Teaching Our Kids to be Producers or Consumers? Ep 288

Summer is upon us and many parents are wondering how and what they are going to be doing with their kids through the Summer days. Something to consider is the mindset that you allow your kids to be in. Are they in the mindset of producing something that serves themselves as well as others? Or, are they in the mindset of "it's my break so everyone should serve me?" We understand that not many parents are going to cater to their child's every little want, but you may be surprised how much we allow...

Have you ever been turned off by someone's hardriving fire and brimstone evangelism. It typically comes with great fervor and intention, but the delivery leaves a lot to be desired. We are currently living in a time when church participation is dropping and people are making their "own" gods to fulfill their needs. When asked about following Jesus or being Christian they make statements like, "I tried it once and it's not for me. If we dig down a little deeper, we often find that people had a ba...
