It's All Perspective

Taylor Reikowww.buzzsprout.com

Taylor Reiko is looking to overshare her world of design. From stories and points of view to design tips.. we might even get into her mental wellness journey? She even clicked yes to the explicit content button because even she doesn't know where a young designer's passion for design will take her.

In short, Taylor just has lots on her mind and believes that some of it is useful but a lot of what she will be discussing will be largely inspired by the current events and projects she has going on/content she put out via IG and TT (*plug* @taylorreikodesign).

Taylor zooms out in attempt to see the bigger picture as there are so many ways we can interpret design and indulge in life's experiences. It's like they always say..(well she does) it's all perspective.

my morning routine (explained)

Mornings can be tough, for all kinds of reasons. Maybe it’s the struggle of getting out of bed, the overwhelming to-do list, or that quiet (sometimes loud) anxiety about what the day might bring. For me, the hardest part about mornings, especially Mondays, is never quite knowing how I’m going to feel when I wake up. Some days I’m fine, others I’m spiraling before I’ve even brushed my teeth. So, I did what any overthinking, slightly-existential, non caffeinated human would do: I created a morning...

a good experience + customer service

You ever think about how most of us are in some kind of service job, even if it doesn’t look like the usual “customer service” stuff? We’re all out here interacting, showing up, giving something of ourselves... and people walk away with their own experience of that. Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about what makes those interactions actually feel good—for them, but also for us. This episode is me sorting through memories, moments, and maybe a few patterns I’ve started to notice. Is “good servic...

my desire for structure

For a long time, I convinced myself that structure was the key to avoiding a psychological breakdown. Like many of us, I found comfort in routine..it gave me a sense of control, of safety. But as I got older, I noticed something shift. My definition of structure started to blur with my work, and eventually, I began to equate the two. That worked… until it didn’t. In this episode, I’m opening up about the journey of untangling structure from identity, and what it means to seek stability without l...

My Unfiltered Design Opinions

As an interior designer, one of the questions I get asked all the time is, "What's your design style?" And honestly, I don’t like answering that question because I feel like I'm putting myself in a box. But recently, I took a walk around my neighborhood and couldn’t help but take mental notes on some design styles I saw...some things I loved, and others… not so much. So in this episode, I’m sharing my personal design loves, some MAJOR pet peeves. I will say that this one’s a little opinionated b...

Envy vs Jealousy (My Take)

Not all emotions are light and happy. Some are heavy. Some sit in your chest in a way that’s… inconvenient. Today, I’m talking about two of those: envy and jealousy. They seem like twins on the outside, but inside? I think they’re night and day, still related but more like distant cousins. And the more I thought about them, the more memories surfaced. Times I felt it. Times it changed me. Times it actually helped me. So I started wondering: why are we so quick to suppress these emotions? Why do ...

I'm Married!! (My Take on Making the Day Our Own)

Over the weekend, I got married, and it was a dream. But of course I wouldn't be me if I didn't make a few unexpected turns when it came to traditions. So in a very Taylor fashion, it's only natural that I share a little debrief with you of the day. Allow me to take you down memory lane to share with you how we took the traditional wedding and made it our own with a few homey touches. @itsallperspectivepodcast @taylorreikodesign @zynerspace

Opinions (My Take)

How often do you ask for advice before doing something? There was a time in my life when I felt the need to ask everyone I crossed paths with for their opinion. Even worse, I questioned no one's feedback. This led to a lot of mental turmoil. Since then, I've decided to revisit this peculiar societal habit of being swayed by others' opinions. So, join me as we explore and debunk this together. @itsallperspectivepodcast @taylorreikodesign @zynerspace

Portfolio Paralysis + People Pleasing (My Take)

Let me ask you this.. what do you think comes first the chicken or the egg? Okay now imagine getting asked "what's your experience" from your interviewer as a student that's fresh out of school. I remember this feeling so vividly and unfortunately it's not an uncommon one.. since then I've had some thoughts cross my mind and I'm going to share them with you today. @itsallperspectivepodcast @taylorreikodesign @zynerspace

Holiday Burnout & New Year New Me?

December is the month when we tend to reflect on the year, and while it's easy to feel proud and nostalgic, there's also a darker side. Sometimes, we find ourselves overwhelmed by fear and uncertainty, unsure of what we've truly accomplished. We panic. With all the holiday planning, balancing work, friends, family, and responsibilities, it can feel like we need to work even harder to deserve the good times, so we overbook ourselves and end up punishing our own well-being. In this episode, join m...

But-Why-Design (Coined By Me)

But-Why-Design? (a phrase coined by Taylor): The elements of a space that are categorized as aesthetic "nice-to-haves," and therefore, are not as highly prioritized or are ruled out early on in the design process due to concerns about how far a project’s budget can stretch. What I’ve found as a designer is that this is one common way we close ourselves off from all the potential our space can bring. This is what I call the "design scarcity effect," and I won’t let it influence pre-design thinkin...

Why Is Driving Exhausting.. (Save Your Energy)

We spend so much time on the road these days. As an adult, I now understand why my parents were so happy when my sports teams had home games—it’s a lot of time and energy spent doing.. well.. nothing. Some might even say it’s exhausting, and I believe in some ways it can be true. Even a simple drive to the grocery store can leave us feeling drained. But why is that? Join me as I explore this topic a little further, share some stories, and offer some of my energy-saving advice along the way. Enjo...

Safe Spaces (I Had a Leak..)

It’s Saturday morning. I flutter my eyes open at 8 a.m., expecting to see a blue sky and hear nothing but birds chirping in the distance. Instead, my thoughts are interrupted by the sound of water dripping from the corner of my apartment. Yes, I had a leak.. and it couldn’t have come at a worse time. But here’s the thing: it’s true what they say, we don’t appreciate what we have until it’s gone. In my case, what was gone was the warm, cozy, and comfortable space I had always considered home. Eve...

The Budget Hedge Maze

Let me paint you a picture..you’ve just finished scrolling on Instagram/Pinterest and you’re feeling empowered to renovate one of the rooms in your home. You’re excited about this transformation and tell yourself that you would like to go about this independently (no designer or builder). But as you start the process of mapping out what material you want to who you want making the installation, you quickly realize that budget is a major topic that influences your decision making. What I Look For In a Builder..(I Got Robbed)

Today, join Taylor in a tranformative, slightly traumatic and borderline dramatic tale of the time she got robbed by a member of the building team during her family’s home renovation in the early 2000s. Fortunately, this very early on experience didn’t go without any gain as this planted a seed. She learned the hard way, that unfortunately we can’t trust everything we hear especially when we are granting someone complete access to some of the most personal corners of our home. Even if they consi...

Hollywood Roosevelt’s Johnny Grant Apartment: the Calibre of Celebrity Design and Tips to Consider for Your Home

When I was away in LA I was lucky enough to have access to the Roosevelt Hotel’s newly renovated Johnny Grant Apartment where everything from Vogue photoshoots to Oscar parties have been hosted there at some point in time. If you’re a modern day design finatic, like myself, you probably get most of your design inspiration from sources online. I’m talking about instagram, pinterest and tiktok but let’s not forget that this is just one lens. It’s tough to really get into the nitty gritty of the de...

Happiness..What Is It?

After coming out of the very cold, and rainy on and off again season of Vancouver's Temperate Rainforest winter months, Taylor's inspired to talk about not design (for once..), but her feelings. More specifically happiness, what is it? And debunk some theories and maybe even share some recent events that occurred that might of started the brainstorming process of this episode in the first place. Why is it that sometimes the most minor inconvenience take us out of the present moment of experienci...

Being Present

The holidays can be stressful and some might even say it’s contradicting that the most wonderful time of the year could potentially be the most overwhelming. Ontop of the craziness that are the first 2 weeks getting back into the swing of things. Taylor has come the the conslusion that what made the process feel overload is the constant stimulation that takes us out of our present moment. Everything from “what should I bring to that dinner party?” and “I think it takes around 4 hours to bake a p...

When You're Selecting...Metal Finishes

Lately, I’ve been looking for new ways to put out design tips into the world that is easy to digest. Introducing a NEW segment I am going to call “When You’re Selecting…(insert name of material here)”. Today we will be leaning into the gem of every space, the SPARKLE of detail in ANY room, the metal finish. We will be going over the current pros and cons I have ...

Sick Season..Take A Break?

In this episode I got sick and you can hear it..as someone who gets a cold once a year I couldn’t help but try and backtrack my last few months and unfortunately I came to the conclusion that I had severely overloaded my schedule, did not honour the basic human need of having lunch at a reasonable time that was earlier that 4pm and I stopped asking myself a fundamental question to what I think makes life fulfilling, “what do you want to do for yourself today?” From the moment we are put on this ...

Education

I had a moment of realization where the average human spends most of their (day-time) life in the classroom from ages 0 to lets say.. 28 (my age). There always seems to be another 'level' of education we can explore and under any field of work for that matter. We can do the work anywhere at any time whether that be in the classroom, online or at home. This thought made me think really deeply on why school is so highly encouraged and following that thought is 'what do we get out of it?' Is the ed...

Design Trends I Didn't Use To Appreciate But Do Now

I feel like I've been holding back on design talk lately and over the past week, I've realized that I've been doing so because I'm terrified of having to describe a space to you using nothing but a microphone I got from Best Buy and my ability to translate..she's a visual girly for a reason. Over the course of my creative lifespan I have grown to have some pretty strong opinions of what I think is helpful in a design and wha...

Experience

I had one question I use to despise when being interviewed, it stressed me out to the point where I would be stress sweating in whatever chair of the office I aspired to work at had. But now that time has passed, I'm better able to see the experience for what it is. I thought I could share my story with you and ways I've overcome the crippling discomfort. Over the years I realized that ultimately I felt threatened by the lack of my own self confidence but I like to think that I've grown since th...

Feedback

For the first episode of It's All Perspective, Taylor decides to talk about the lovely language of communication from the lens of giving and receiving feedback. Hopefully if you're going though a season filled with feedback or having to give it to someone, you'll find parts of this applicable in your life. Because needless to say with the nature of critique comes a level of discomfort and some may argue a potentially bruised ego that we all might struggle with from time to time. @itsallperspecti...
