Episode description
For men, many of us were raised with the rule “if we’re struggling, don’t talk about it”. This is what had Connor Beaton hitting rock bottom and eventually, opening his eyes and heart to the importance of having the support to express his emotions. Harboring such subtle and heavy emotions, with no outlet or invitation to express them healthily, led Connor to expressing shame in the forms of substance abuse, addictions, dysfunctional relationship dynamics and living out of his car.
Connor dives into his story and how he healed to where he is now — a supportive and committed father, husband and men’s training facilitator. He knew that if his life were to shift the first thing that needed to be looked at was himself.
Connor and I dive into…
How he shifted from addictions, troubled relationships, damaging self-talk
Healthy ways to pivotally express anger and how this can benefit everyone involved
How putting people on pedestals doesn’t allow for a genuine or sustainable connection
Transforming the “suppression equals strength” mentality
The importance of modeling a healed masculine to our children
