Episode description

I’m spilling the beans on racial trauma, colonial oppression & gaslighting I experienced during my childhood. The effects of hidden trauma have come to the surface of my psyche over the last two years. My experience is not unique, but the stigma of seeking out therapy for mental illness prevents many of us from talking about it. I didn’t realize just how much trauma I was carrying until my mother’s stroke. Sitting in ceremonies with ayahuasca and psilocybin mushrooms was pivotal in my healing journey. Black people are less likely to receive psychiatric treatment referrals or to be diagnosed with PTSD by a licensed psychiatrist or psychologist, and PTSD secondary to racial trauma is under diagnosed and under treated. Psychedelics are one avenue worth exploring for their potential to help alleviate racial trauma. MDMA-assisted psychotherapy has already been shown to be a highly effective approach for PTSD, with three administrations of MDMA substantially more effective than traditional pharmacologic treatment methods such as life-long prescription of SSRI medication. I’ll be covering more of this in the Conscious Evolution podcast, which launches on June 7! On the Conscious Evolution podcast my goal is to help you discover techniques which empower you to use you mind-brain-heart and soul to awaken to your true purpose, heal past wounds and trauma, and create an epic life of no regrets. This show highlights the neuropsychology of expanding your consciousness and liberating your Authentic Self. The Conscious Evolution podcast invites you to explore ways to ‘hack enlightenment’, by integrating ancient wisdom & modern neuroscience with transpersonal psychology. From psychedelics and breath work to mindfulness and trance dance, my guests and I will shine a light on the unique capacity we have to use our conscious mind to evolve individually and collectively as a species. Part of our global launch includes a BIPOC Psychedelic series ✊🏽 As a black woman whose parents are Black and South American I have struggled to find mental health practitioners who really understood my needs. Now as a facilitator of trauma recovery I am in a position to support my community with culturally competent and compassionate care.  Having had tremendous benefit from psychedelic assisted therapy in the last few years I want to share my voice with the BIPOC community so more of us can feel comfortable to explore this option in healing. By sharing these videos on YouTube and in all podcast platforms, we will highlight more BIPOC voices. Is there someone you’d like me to interview for the pod? Send me a message or tag them in the comments. If you'd like to work with me privately to prepare for or integrate your psychedelic journeys, get in touch by replying to this email or visit this link. https://bit.ly/DrAndreaMentoring I currently help people prepare for their travel to countries where it is legal to sit in ceremony with ayahuasca or yagé, magic mushrooms and more. In virtual mentoring sessions I also facilitate the integration of psychedelic experiences. Note: I do not give advice on where to purchase these substances, so please do not ask!
