Speaker 6

That goes back to like Episodes 8 and 9 or whatever .

Speaker 3

It was effective , though it was effective . We got lots of reviews .

Speaker 6

I forgot what we were trying to do , but it worked . Friends , the Rise and Run Podcast is sponsored in part by our good friends at Magic Bound Travel . Hey , you know what's coming up , don't you ? Springtime Surprise Registration is just around the corner . In fact , I think it's the 22nd , in general 15th if you're a club run Disney guy .

So the time is right now . Get your resort reservation on hold with one of Magic Bound's specialized team of agents and advisors . We know that everybody that's going to work with you at Magic Bound is a run Disney veteran , so they'll know what you're talking about . And look , don't forget Disneyland's coming up Over at Magic Bound .

They're waiting for the announcement of the 2024 Disneyland tickets and packages with the resort , the three on-site resorts in the good neighbor hotels . They'll be coming online soon . The Magic Bound team has been busy up to now booking rooms for the Disneyland half , but soon they'll be able to do a whole lot more .

Past years , that's come around about mid-August , so we're not far away from that . Go ahead and get in line . Get your quote request in ASAP at magicboundtravelcom or by contacting your MBT agent directly . If you've worked with them in the past , all right , friends , let's take a look . Let's do the countdown .

Wine and Dine is now 12 weeks away , 84 days until expo day . We're in week six of that training program . I believe it's three miles this week . I think it's three miles for everybody this weekend . Could be wrong Hope not . But if you're doing the training you'll know what it is . Marathon weekend , 21 weeks away .

Now we're in week seven of that and this one I'm pretty certain . The distance it's popping back and forth now . With seven last week it's three miles this week . If you're running the marathon are one of the challenges .

Speaker 4

The Wine and Dine training schedule . The 10K has got three miles on Saturday , but you're half in . The two course challenge is 6.5 .

Speaker 6

Oh thanks , john . Thanks , yeah , I kind of thought they were not in line with one another and I just messed up and didn't do my homework this week . So I appreciate you backing me up on that , john . Hey , speaking of John , you had surgery this week . How'd it go so far ? It ?

Speaker 4

went well . Friday I went for a meniscus surgery . Didn't know if it was going to happen or not , because I'm there in pre-op and all of a sudden the lights go out in the building .

Speaker 6

No , like the whole building .

Speaker 4

Yeah yeah , it's like pitch black . Oh my God , it's like pitch black . I'm like , oh great , this is happening again .

Speaker 6

Again . What do you mean again ?

Speaker 8

Is this like a stranger things thing ? Are you like in the upside down world , Like what is going on ?

Speaker 4

I . Years ago I had to go for a stress test . They're getting me onto the treadmill and the building had an accident happen outside hit the transformer . The transformer blew . They had to wait . Power went out . Had to wait for the generator come back on . The doctor goes . Well , you know you're very stressed out right now because of the power went out .

Do you want to do your stress test ? I'm like , yeah , I'm stressed out . Why ? Not let's do this . That's in the name , right ?

Speaker 6

Yeah .

Speaker 4

So today it's like the guy goes oh , don't worry about the generator , is going to kick in any time soon . I'm not worried . This happened before . So , oh my gosh . So thank God it didn't happen . It was on the table , which I think was good . But yeah everything went fine . I started physical therapy today , this is , which is Tuesday .

I told , told the PT what my goals were . He goes yeah , we could get you there .

Speaker 6

Good .

Speaker 4

You know , as long as the doc thinks everything's worked , well , everything's okay , we should be there , so that's fine . I mean it doesn't really hurt that much anymore . So I think I'm happy . And I know somebody else in our group I think Jennifer's got went for the surgery on Monday . So hopefully hers went as well as mine , I hope so too .

Speaker 6

Yeah , all sorts of advancements in that surgery , and I'm glad it went well for you , john , and I'm confident that you will meet those goals . Hope , so yeah . And speaking to the apologies and alibis section , I believe Greg has something to say .

Speaker 3

Yes , on behalf of all of these citizens of the state , the first state of Delaware , I want to apologize because when we were talking about John being on vacation down at a in Wildwood , new Jersey , you know , bob talked about how you know , when you go to a Jersey beach , you know you don't go down to the beach , you go down the shore .

So I went on this whole soliloquy about well , it's not just Jersey , you know you go to Delaware beaches and you do the same thing , and then that whole vernacular doesn't stop until you get to , you know , like Ocean City , maryland and stuff like that .

And I had several people call me out on our Facebook group this week to let me know that , no , when you go to Delaware you go to the beach , you're not down the shore . So again , on behalf of all the citizens of the beach towns and the great state of Delaware , I would like to apologize .

Speaker 6

That seemed pretty sincere . I don't know what you guys think .

Speaker 4

I give a pass . He's from Philly . Everyone from Philly goes down the shore .

Speaker 6

They do indeed . So they do indeed . But people don't go down the beach either . They go to the beach .

Speaker 4

Yeah , you hit the beach . When you're , when you get down the shore , you hit the beach .

Speaker 6

That's how it works . All right Moving right along , Friends . We saw the medals for Marathon Weekend revealed .

Speaker 9

We sure did Whoa .

Speaker 7

Yeah .

Speaker 9

What do you think ? I haven't had this much excitement about a medal set in a long time . I feel like yeah , this one is really doing it for me , and one of the reasons why is because I feel like the goofy medal is so wonderful and so colorful and just so beautiful and I that's the race that I chose , so I felt like it was Kismet .

I love that medal and I'm really excited for it .

Speaker 7

I love . I love that it has all four parks in the background .

Speaker 9

Oh , my gosh . I'm not doing goofy , but I feel like he might spin and I know that's , that's a projection , that might not come true , but I think he might actually like twirl around in there .

Speaker 8

Yeah .

Speaker 9

Yeah .

Speaker 8

I'm very happy because I was so felt , so bad . I wasn't able to sign up for Dopey due to my car needed to be fixed at the time and I just wanted to be safe financially . And I was just like I'll do goofy maybe if Dopey opens back up , and then I never saw it open back up whenever I looked .

But now I'm like super happy for at least doing goofy because that medal is epic and I love the half marathon and marathon medals as well , but the goofy one is my favorite out of all of them .

Speaker 7

I will say I have not liked the goofy medal itself in the past several years . Yeah , I'm like , oh , that's okay , but I love it , I think it's awesome . I am also I've heard there's a lot of people really excited about the half medal .

Speaker 3

Oh that was going to be my point , lexi , that is , I know it . Just there's something about the coloring on it , the like the glitter . And then I mean , clearly , you know Donald is and Daisy are going to be chasing each other on that medal , you know , based on the movement and everything like that . But yeah , out of the whole allotment .

I was like I was so fixated on the half and I'm so glad I'm going to be earning that one this year . But I want to divert the conversation quickly to Dopey , my poor boy . Dopey has gone through a lot in these last couple of years . He put on that COVID-15 and that one medal . Then , you know , then he went back to normal . But since when ?

And Grant , I understand that Run Disney is trying to be inventive and push the envelope with the medals and everything like that , but since when did he turn into Rudolph the red nose reindeer ?

Speaker 9

Yeah , Okay , I got to look at this again .

Speaker 7

He's got a very red nose , very red .

Speaker 4

He's drinking a lot now .

Speaker 9

He is coming out of a barrel .

Speaker 6

I like that he glows in the dark . I think that's kind of cool .

Speaker 3

Well , yeah , I mean that's the thing . I like the glowing elements of it , but like I've never known . Like Grant , I know the gems are supposed to light up , but it looks like his nose also lights up . I don't remember a time in Snow White where , yeah , I mean , if anyone's going to get red , it's going to be bashful .

Speaker 8

Not dope , Not Dopey . Hold on Greg . He could be in a very cold region ?

Speaker 7

I don't know . We're in Florida , Jack .

Speaker 6

Yeah , we're in Florida .

Speaker 3

Okay , so maybe Dopey has a sinus infection or something .

Speaker 6

Maybe , maybe , maybe he's sunburnt because of his sinus infection there you go there you go Good thinking .

Speaker 9

One thing I do kind of miss is well , I don't know if miss is the right word , but one thing that I do think is a miss is that the metals if you do Dopey , you get all the metals and they , a lot of them , are like a set and then there's a couple that just don't really fit in .

I absolutely love Chip and Dale , but that metal doesn't really fit in with the other metals .

Speaker 8

Yeah , I don't know why . Like it just . You know it's like , I don't know , I just I love the artwork for it .

Speaker 7

And then the metal . I'm like I mean it's cute . Yeah , it's super cute . I love Chip and Dale because they're like my favorite of the Fab Five , but I just feel like they could have done better .

Speaker 9

And I do feel that way , a little bit about the Dopey metal too , the Goofy metal as well , but like it doesn't feel like as much of a set as the 5K , the half and the full marathon kind of look .

Speaker 7

It's like the gold background or the way that the design is . Seems like they go together .

Speaker 6

And before we end up with an apology . And alibi Lexi knows that Chip and Dale are not part of the big five , she just they're part of her big five .

Speaker 7

Okay , okay . So there is a lot of debate about which characters are included in the Fab Five , because now they are seven , because there's two of them , and anyway they're original characters , okay .

Speaker 4

Going back to your 10K metal . Like you look at the 5K , you know Pluto's running around at it . It looks like he moves up and down on the metal and the 10K just looks like it sits there . It's like nothing , nothing going on . Like a couple of years ago too , I think in the 50th , the Oswald metal .

It just was there , but it just wasn't , it just didn't do anything .

Speaker 9

It didn't fit yeah .

Speaker 4

You would think they'd get more elaborate going up in distance , where the 10K just never gets the love .

Speaker 8

I think I love the 10K last year though .

Speaker 3

Yeah , with the spinning the acorn and everything like that .

Speaker 7

Yeah , absolutely One thing that we haven't talked about is the marathon . I feel like it's almost an exact replica of the springtime surprise metal from well 2022 , I believe it was . Yeah , it does look similar .

Speaker 3

I agree with you , Lexi , and I remember when you had brought it up in our private Facebook chat that we have . You know , I remember making a comment I think it was when the springtime surprise metals got released last year . I was like , hmm , I wonder if they have like so many molds of that whole .

You know circles with , you know inner circles cut out , because if you compare the springtime surprise metal the first year and compared to the Toy Story metal , it's very similar . And then , like you said , you take that challenge metal from the first springtime and compare it to the marathon metal , it's very similar .

But I will say , all of that being said , though , I love the design of it and it's really cool , but yet the fact that they keep using that same theme and mold is a little repetitive .

Speaker 7

Yeah , and I love the colors and , like the you know the design of it's really pretty Absolutely .

Speaker 9

And the artwork of him running also looks very similar to that springtime surprise .

Speaker 7

Exactly , yeah , yeah .

Speaker 6

Gang , let's move on just a little bit . Our friend Scott on Facebook asked the question that I thought was kind of neat and we might want to give our answers here , and he asked what's your favorite metal set from a previous run Disney event ?

Speaker 4

I'll throw it out there 2022 marathon weekend .

Speaker 6

The 50th anniversary of the park .

Speaker 4

Yeah .

Speaker 6

Yeah , yeah . Yeah , john , that's mine too , that set . That was basically gold .

Speaker 7

Yeah , like the iridescent one yeah .

Speaker 9

John , that's also mine too . I did goofy that year for the first year and I saw I have the half , the full and the goofy and I love that . They're all . They look gorgeous on my wall , they all match each other . They have this theme going and I love that goofy metal , the way he like spins around in a circle and I don't know . It's just so wonderful .

Speaker 4

And even the ribbons were good on that one too .

Speaker 9

Yeah .

Speaker 3

Yeah , throw me in the ring on that as well . The 2022 set as a cohesive set has always been my favorite , but I would say like , if there was like an individual metal that I love the most , I would actually go back to again . Same set , though , that that marathon metal , you know , again with all the different colors , and it was spinner .

Speaker 6

And .

Speaker 3

I think that was one of the maybe the first years where they started incorporating many onto the marathon metal as well , so I really like that touch as well too .

Speaker 9

She's in 2020 , because that was my first marathon .

Speaker 5

Okay .

Speaker 9

And I think that might have been the first one , but it's your first marathon that you ran , so that's also really special for you yeah .

Speaker 7

I feel like the thing that we love most about the 50th year metals is that it was cohesive all throughout , like every single metal had the same theme , and that's something that we really loved about it . My favorite individual metal would probably be I think it's Princess 2018 that big snow white Apple that had the spinner in the middle of it .

I just think that is beautiful .

Speaker 6

Cool . So , besides the 2022 dopey set , are there any others ?

Speaker 9

My favorite metal that I've ever earned is the 2020 marathon , where it was kind of 70s looking vibe and again , it was my first marathon , so it's significant for me that's a big deal , yeah , what ? About you , Alicia . My favorite singular metal is the 2018 marathon metal . Yeah , because it's gorgeous .

Yeah , if I could have earned that one , I would have , but you know that's my favorite looking as well .

Speaker 1

More for significance than I do for looks , but this last or this year's dopey sequence was my favorite just because this race , that race weekend , was really really good for me , and so every time I look at the metals , it means more than just the artwork of it .

Speaker 9

Yeah , and they're so colorful and bright on my wall too I love that Well great , Scott , great question what's friends ?

Speaker 6

what's your favorite set ? I mean , Scott already already asked the question on Facebook , so the threads there , I tell you my favorite is usually the one that they hang around my neck that weekend , I don't care what weekend it is because it that's the one that means the most at the time . Oh right , I think it's time to speak with our guest for the week .

Greg , can you help us out ?

Speaker 3

All right . So now's the time of the podcast where we bring in our special guest . The only thing is I'm having trouble hearing him and seeing him . Guys , I do . You see that massive pile of mylar blankets over on the side on our video screen here ? So over there somewhere . I think he's having trouble emerging from it .

Speaker 5

Michael .

Speaker 3

Oh wait , I'm hearing something he's emerging . Oh my God , my mylar cocoon . Ladies and gentlemen , it's the one , the only Riley , claremont Riley . Welcome to the rising run podcast , my friend .

Speaker 5

Well , I'm glad I could finally finally make it . I'm honored to be here . I really appreciate it . And , yes , I've gone from a chrysalis to Pupa and now emerging as a technically , you know , foundational beautiful butterfly . So thanks for having me and I'll see you guys later . We're proud of you , man .

Speaker 6

We're proud of , you're hanging in . We tried this once before and golly , we tried everything . And Riley was such a sport . He kept , he kept at it , and kept at it and finally we had to go . No , this isn't going to work . Now , that's , that's our side of the story .

If you were to ask Carissa and John Pelkey , they would say to you no , this was all you ought to plot from the beginning , so Riley could get the spotlight all his own . But I don't believe that .

Speaker 5

No , I'm a . I'm a . I'm a master manipulator , and that's exactly what happened . I was in tears . My wife was in tears trying to get , but it was all just a ploy so that I could come on here solo . And now I feel good . You know , I feel enriched . My ego is huge , so let's go . We're glad .

Speaker 6

All right , we're glad you're here . Well , look for the , for the two or three folks listening who may not know who . We're speaking to Riley Claremont . When you go to the run Disney events , typically Carissa and John are on the stage and Riley is I don't want to call him a man on the street , but he's down in amongst us .

You know , he's the fella who interviews people as they slide by . He's the reason as you are walking towards the start line , everybody tries to crowd to the right . Have you ? Have you noticed that gang ? Oh yeah , I remember we did it one time . We were all costumed up . We looked great . Oh yeah , we're going to get on . But we were in car out .

We were in the back .

Speaker 3

The back of crowd D . Yeah , yeah .

Speaker 6

But , the time we got , yeah , but a time we got to you , Riley . If you had talked to us , there would have been like eight people behind us who heard us .

Speaker 5

Well , and then John has that tradition of doing don't stop believing . You know , there's usually a sing along late in the corrals so that you might have gotten bumped by , you know , by an old journey hit . That's . That's where I prefer to be . I love to be out amongst the runners , the athletes . I love talking to them .

I love the juice of not knowing how any of these interviews are going to go and how . You know , seven times out of 10 .

Well , okay , nine times out of 10 , they go fine , but maybe five times out of 10 , there's something that's either very , very funny or what I really have enjoyed about where the direction that run Disney and the entertainment is gone , is that when we first started interviewing folks who had tails that were , you know , sad or harrowing , or , you know , because

everybody out there is sharing , you know , I mean cancer survivors and and .

Speaker 4

Oh yeah .

Speaker 5

And when we first started featuring those folks , I got a little self conscious that I was going to get some pushback from management saying no , no , no , we don't . You know , we want to keep it all happy . That typical you know the . Disney thing where we know we want to keep it all happy , we want to take people's minds off their problems .

We don't want them to listen to this steady succession of people sharing these , these incredible stories , these incredibly personal stories , moving stories . And to my surprise , my pleasant surprise not only did we not get pushed back , we got encouragement from run Disney to to share those stories .

So that's when the whole thing pivoted for me is when I was able not just to go out there and just , you know , crack jokes and keep it light , but to do that and realize that , man , that's the foundation of this thing is we want to keep it light .

We understand of , you know , the 20,000 folks that are running maybe 5,000 , if that are paying any attention . You know we get that right out of the gate that our role is very important . We get that right out of the gate that our role is very , very minimal .

But as that role is minimal , we also take it very , very seriously and , like I said , to be able to share those types of the happy , the sad and everything in between .

To me , if I was participating you know , taking part in the runs , I would , I would really be into that because , to me , provides a foundation of meaning and importance , a context that goes so far beyond just hey , we're all out here . You know there's characters who have a great time .

Speaker 9

I have a question for you . So you mentioned the happy , the sad and everything in between . How does one get on with you if they're at a run Disney race ? How would they set it up and what kind of story would you say they could share with the people who are waiting in line ? That would be a fun story .

Speaker 5

I mean anything goes . As far as I'm concerned , obviously , you know anything that's positive or anything that's real and authentic . Where I'm located , it changes sometimes from race to race .

I would say if somebody has a story and I say this over the pre-race stage if you've got something you wanna say , if there's a cause or a story or something you wanna share , here's where you can find me , and you can also always usually find me on the right side at the starting line .

I'm usually only at one corral , which is probably usually D , I think , depending on the setup of the race . So that can be a challenge , but if somebody reaches out to me in social media and they can make an appointment , basically to say I'm gonna be at the rehearsal stage , at the starting line stage or not ?

the starting line stage , you know what I'm saying ?

Speaker 6

the pre-race stage the DJ Christian is and all that pre-race , all the photo op stuff .

Speaker 5

We go over there and do interviews there . So come find me there , and if I can't get you on at that point , then we will definitely find me on that right side of the starting corral and I will definitely get you on for as long as we can . Obviously there's so many other things going on .

The timing of those segments is very , very quick , but I'm heartened and pleasantly surprised by the amount of stories and the amount of things that we can share , especially over the course of a whole weekend .

Speaker 6

Well , while we're on that subject , and we wanna talk about other things too , I'm going to ask the mystery guest to turn his camera on and , riley , you can tell us what would happen if this guy popped up on the right side of the corral ?

Speaker 7

Yeah , I had a feeling Andrew .

Speaker 2

Hello Riley , how are you doing ?

Speaker 5

I'm great , sir . I'm great . In fact . I had one of my favorite moments of any run . Disney race was with you this past season when you started singing A .

Speaker 2

Whole New .

Speaker 5

World Okay .

Speaker 2

And I came in on the don't you dare close your eyes . I love that I just worked out a song . Finally I get the duet I've been waiting for for years .

Speaker 5

Yeah , I'm sure , Andrew , people love that . Oh , it was a good feeling .

Speaker 2

They love you they love the songs . I think this was the same year where the first one I did was too short and then the second one John said we didn't want the whole album , just to cut .

Speaker 6

Yes , yes , yes , that was very recently . I was gonna go into that . Andrew starts doing album cuts , oh hey you know , that doesn't work . The people what they want . Yeah Again , friends who are listening , who may be new to the run , disney World and all that we are now with , not only with Riley , but Andrew the corral singer , as he's known .

If you've been to a Disney race in the last couple years , you know who my friend Andrew is , and John finds him every week and he's got something to sing and we're not gonna let him go without singing but that can come later on . Oh , Andrew's ready for that .

Speaker 2

Oh yeah , oh yeah , ever since the first time when Carissa asked me to sing and I didn't have a song , and Linda's like were you nervous ? I'm like no , I just didn't know one song to sing and everybody stopped me on the route the entire time because she told them to have me sing on the route . So every five steps , somebody was asking me to sing .

Ever since then , I've always had a song ready to go , just in case .

Speaker 6

I've finished my last two races at springtime surprise with Andrew In fact walk , yeah , it was great , we walked , we were both walking , walked quite a bit of them and yeah , it's fun . Somebody knows one of us going by . Funny thing , they don't ask me to sing .

Speaker 2

I don't know why . I mean you sing great .

Speaker 6

You know why ? Okay , never mind .

Speaker 9

So now we know everything in between also includes songs . Are there any other interesting performances besides just singing that people have done for you while they've been going through the corrals ?

Speaker 5

It's mainly about the wardrobe . I mean , that's what I'm looking for , is I'm looking for what are they wearing ? and what they're wearing obviously is gonna be indicative of what kind of personality they're gonna have and all that kind of stuff .

And honestly , I wanna lead with the fun , I wanna lead with the funny , but I'm also still amazed at sometimes that where somebody would be dressed as a crab and then they'll talk about the fact that you know , they're a cancer survivor or they lost their husband just weeks ago and they swore to them they were gonna run this race , and so it's funny because of

what they're wearing , but it's also completely incongruous because of what they're talking about . And I love that and I think that the people that are actually paying attention would probably dig that too . But Andrew , I have to ask you real quick , I mean , are you now to the point where it's like a song per race ? I mean that you're coming prepared ?

Speaker 2

Oh , yeah , I come prepared . Okay , good , good . I think , the last one .

Okay , so I run for a group called Force and they're a cancer charity and Jan is in charge of me , and so Jan told me that I had to be on theme , so I had to pick a song that matched the race each of those days , and in some cases it wasn't easy and I'm like , are you serious ?

But then John and Carissa noticed that I was doing it , so it kind of worked out and so she said , see , I told you , and now they've created a monster . She won't stop .

Speaker 8

I can't wait for your incanto . Oh yeah .

Speaker 10

Oh yeah .

Speaker 5

I think all you guys would agree with me that you know , just like , when somebody picks up a guitar at a party , you know you're just like oh my God . No . And I think our human instinct is set to . When somebody dares to be as brave as Andrew is and sing a song , you know there's gonna be some cynicism , there's gonna be some eye rolls .

Andrew , I'm telling you , man , there's none of that .

Speaker 6

Yeah .

Speaker 5

People dig it , people love it , and now we expect it .

Speaker 4

We look forward to it .

Speaker 2

Yeah , for sure . Yeah , I love it . It's like the most fun ever , and as soon as they started doing the mini waves , it made it much easier to get to you oh .

Speaker 6

Ah , there's your . So many waves During four waves timing .

Speaker 2

it was crazy , but with the mini waves I can hit it every time , no problem . Well , one time I actually got up to the line and they tried to push us through and we said no , no , no , no , no , we're gonna stay back one more . So it was cool .

Speaker 6

So it worked out .

Speaker 2

It worked out it always does Very cool .

Speaker 6

We see Andrew all the time . That's a good thing . And I hesitate to ask this , Riley , because if you're like me , if you start listing people or things , you leave one out .

Speaker 11

You don't do it deliberately .

Speaker 6

But are there other folks ? You kind of look for every race that you're used to seeing . Now I can think of a couple that seem to show up at the time , oh for sure .

Speaker 5

And again , names and groups and all that . There's so many of them that I don't want to list them individually , but absolutely there's some folks that started reaching out . And again , just with social media Now we're friends on social media there are people that I want them to come and share their story .

I want them definitely to come and represent whatever group that they're raising money for , et cetera . I mean , again , not to be all corny , but when we say that it's an honor and a privilege to do what we do , we absolutely 100% mean it .

We are absolutely true believers in running even though some of us don't take part in it that much , but we're absolute believers , obviously , in Run Disney and the product that it provides for all the caveats and qualifiers as far as registration and all the things .

Again , the fact that you guys and that the Run Disney family jumps through the hoops , that they jump through and then only be met with this mile long walk to the starting line and the waiting and all that . I mean , and then to have the privilege of running 26.2 or 13.1 or the people that do dopey or goofy , I mean it's mind blowing .

And to see all the different types , the diversity , the inclusiveness of the Run Disney family . It inspires us and , again , it really is our honor and privilege to play even just a tiny part in your experience , because it's mind blowing what you guys do .

Speaker 3

Now the question is since we've had you on the podcast now , does that mean we need to make a reservation ahead of time , or do we carte blanche ? We can just come up and we're okay ?

Speaker 5

I wish that there were some behind the scenes strings that we could pull . But honestly , there's Run Disney , the entity , and then there's Disney entertainment and that's who we are . We're Disney entertainment and we're just there because Run Disney's like yeah , okay , sure , yeah , bring those guys back .

People don't seem to mind them that much , we don't have that many complaints about them . But as far as having any sort of carte blanche about anything , they treat us very well , very happy with the gig , very grateful for the gig .

But yeah , behind the scenes we have because I've been approached by other people not asking for favors , but you say , hey , can we feature this or can you do that , and I'm like we're powerless to do any of that stuff .

Speaker 8

Especially , I feel like during the marathon itself , when you have all the crowds up , do you ever have a hard time sometimes trying to find somebody to interview ?

Because I feel like , especially when it was like a cold race , I feel like you guys almost came up to me and I remember because there wasn't many people dressed during the marathon where I was at and I was the only one and I remember there's eye contact and then I quickly looked away . This was like a few years ago .

Speaker 5

I was really nervous .

Speaker 8

So I was like and then I kept looking no , I'll you know .

Speaker 5

I try and be careful with people . I try and read them , obviously in a split second , because I don't want to make someone who's shy , or someone who's focused and concentrating or someone who's just not in the mood to deal with some chucklehead going . Hey , what are you ? hearing .

So I'm always heartened that I've gotten very few and actually nothing comes to mind as far as negative reactions . I can usually tell when someone's really , really not and they're like no , no , I just I need to do this , I need to focus .

But yeah , there's some times and I'll signal to the stage , I'll just be like I've got nothing , because obviously we don't want to force it and so if it's not organic , if it's not authentic and right there , then I'll just I'll signal to the guys up on stage that we don't have anyone this corral and we'll get somebody the next corral .

Speaker 8

And I do want to point it out there . It wasn't because I didn't want , I just I was so nervous , I was like , no , no , no , I can't . I can't .

Speaker 5

That's the beauty of working with John , and Carissa especially , and Tracy is that we all everybody's well , even Carissa . But John and I come from a absolutely and Tracy too from a theater background . We were all theater nerds for our entire lives .

Speaker 7

Yeah .

Speaker 5

And we worked yeah , all right , fellow , theater nerd and we came up through the theme parks doing all sorts of different roles and the great thing about Orlando is that you can have your pay , the rent job , can be performing every single day , and that's why so many people when I first got to Orlando , universal and Disney we're seen reviewed as stepping stones .

We're going to come here and work for a couple of years and then we're going to go to New York , chicago or LA . This new generation of performers at the theme parks . That is their goal . They moved to Orlando because they wanted to work for Disney and Universal and have a family , and that's their goal . Anyway , starting to go down that rabbit hole .

The beauty about working with people like Carissa and Tracy and John , who all come up through that same thing , is that we have a shorthand . So there's all sorts of you know nonverbal signs and signals as far as what we can do . And the chemistry between the four of us , we think is really good because we genuinely love each other .

I mean , that's just a fact . We've been working for each other , with each other for years and years and it is a family .

Speaker 8

And we love it . You guys do amazing .

Speaker 5

Well , I appreciate it . I mean that means everything , and we wouldn't be back if I think the majority of run Disney people who are paying any attention to us , you know , didn't care for what we were doing .

Speaker 6

No , you can tell . And , riley , I keep hearing things that we talk about on this podcast and there's a mantra that Jeff Galloey gave me years back and he said you can't fake that he was talking something different , but I hear it in you and we hear it on this podcast and you can't fake that . You mean it .

You mean that you love what you're doing and you love this family .

Speaker 3

All right . So , Riley , you were just talking about the family that you have , especially with John and Carissa . Can you tell us the backstory of how the three of you got working together ? Because I remember when we had Pelkin and Carissa on a couple of weeks ago , they had told us about how you were in his wedding and vice versa and everything like that .

So can you tell us the run Disney announcer origin story of how you all met ?

Speaker 5

Well as quickly as possible . John and I met at Universal . I got hired there back in 1991 at the Wild West stunt show , and then I moved over to the horror makeup show as well , and that's where .

Speaker 7

John was .

Speaker 5

And so we just started working together and then just started hanging out . So from 1992 on it's been almost . There's just been so many gigs and plays that we've done together . And with Carissa she worked at Disney .

Let me sum it up this way John and Carissa started working together I mean I forget when their first season was but they got thrown together and then instantly they just had chemistry . I remember John coming back just talking about what a total pro Carissa was .

Obviously Carissa enjoyed John's sense of humor and his old take , his kind of cynical take on things , and it was good chemistry between them . And at that point Rudy was still part of that gang . And then I got hired simply because John and I were working at the ESPN club , on Disney's boardwalk and also out at the ESPN Sports Complex .

So they brought me in simply just to be on camera , not anywhere near the starting corrals , not on stage , not during the pre-race , not anything , just simply out . And it was only for the marathon , for the big race , and I think it was only for the marathon , the last race of the weekend , and so I would be out there in my ESPN jacket .

They would have wardrobe for me , but I refused to put it on back , because I'm like I'm not part of the team . I'm just out here doing video . They're shooting me from here up , so you're going to dress me up as a clam . It's not going to read , I'm not going to put it on . But now I completely embrace the wardrobe and those folks are amazing .

The stuff they come up for us with are with us . But that's really how it started . We just all kind of got thrown together and then over the years my role grew and then I got invited to be part of the official team et cetera .

But onstage , offstage , in our personal lives , they're just great people and we're just some Pataco ethically , morally , politically , culturally . So it really it's such a pleasure and every time we go down there , every time we see each other at the hotel that first night , it's a reunion .

Speaker 6

Yeah , it's fun .

Speaker 5

I hope I answered the question .

Speaker 3

Oh , you did .

Speaker 5

Now I'm just curious , are you ?

Speaker 3

as obsessed with the musical 1776 as Pellke is .

Speaker 5

I am not OK . No , I'm not . I'm obsessed . I'm more of a fiddler on the roof guy when it comes to the classics .

Speaker 6

Oh , there you go .

Speaker 5

Tradition , oh man , if I could you know , I hope my wife here is in the other room , because she's heard me say this a million times If I could play Tevia for the rest of my life , I would do that . So there you go .

Speaker 7

That was going to be my question because I asked Pellke this when he was on what's your favorite show ?

Speaker 5

Oh , a favorite Broadway show Fiddler . Just because I have a childhood attachment to that , obviously Hamilton . I'm a huge Hamilton fan . It got me through COVID . God knows we must have watched that 75 times with our daughter . Same so she knows all the lyrics . I was in New York in the late 80s so I'm a huge fan of Burn .

This John Malkovich did it on Broadway . There's a play called M-Butterfly Gospel at Colonies . Has anyone ever heard of Gospel at Colonies ? No , Seek it out . Seek out the soundtrack , because Morgan Freeh , it's the tale of the Oedipus through an evangelical African-American choir . It's great Anyway . So those are some of my favorite Broadway shows .

Speaker 3

Well , Lexie , what we have to do now is the next time we see Riley , you and I need to get up together and then just start singing .

Speaker 5

if I were a rich man , oh yeah , and just doing the dance the whole time . Give me a little Sunrise , sunset Give me a little extra group .

Speaker 3

Ok , perfect , all right , there we go , you do a group ?

Speaker 5

Hit me with some Sabbath prayer and I'll buy you dinner . Yeah .

Speaker 9

Can we do a group fiddler on the roof costume just to troll ?

Speaker 5

Yes , if you all come out there and pray your shawls , I will bow down , I will bend the knee to all of you .

Speaker 7

It'll be just for you , Riley , just for you , yes and now .

Speaker 5

Andrew , you have to sing something for fiddler on the roof . Oh my goodness , oh my God .

Speaker 2

Fake it . Look at the time .

Speaker 3

Got to go .

Speaker 2

But , Riley , do you guys ever have anything to do with the costumes they choose , or do you just show up and they dress you ?

Speaker 5

We have a rehearsal . We all get in Wednesday . So in other words , every weekend starts on Thursday , so we all get in on Wednesday .

Thursday we go to a location , either at ESPN Sports Complex or lately it's been at Maingate , which is where all sorts of Disney offices and the Yalba editions there , and we'll come in and we'll do a fitting , and so we'll try on every single outfit for the entire weekend and the director will either approve it or not .

But we've just noticed that over the years , and especially these last few years , in our estimation at least , the wardrobe's gone up as far as how they dress us , the theming of it , the work that they do . My God , some of the hats that they always put me in , because you know , can we have that on ? Oh , my 47? , 57 . 47 ?

Yes , I joke , but they started making them like hand crafting the . You know just the artwork and the adornments on it . It's just , it's amazing . They do great work , so that definitely inspires us as well .

Speaker 7

So , as I guess the actor among us , jack's also an actor , when you go into a run Disney weekend , do you look at it as a show that you're performing or like what is your approach to it ? Because I know it's a lot of improv and you know thinking on your feet and all that kind of stuff . Like what do you go into it preparing or thinking of ?

Speaker 9

Interesting question .

Speaker 5

I will on my phone , if you know , in the weeks ahead of the race , if I hear something like I heard at this interview with Michael Cain , where he talked about using the difficulty of the scene .

Speaker 4

I love Michael Cain and I wrote that down on my notes yeah , he's lucky .

Speaker 5

Yeah , no no , no , I wrote that down on my notes and that was you know , and I don't know if I ever ended up incorporating it in the weekend . But you know I will do stuff like that if I and I call them hooks , you know little hooks for the weekend , little something . You know little mantra , little you know something inspirational .

But as far as I mean , I'm just , I am so confident now and relaxed with with John and Chris and Tracy and everybody else , but especially with that core group , that there's really no thought about how is this going to work technically .

My whole mindset is all about you know , am I going to , you know , crossing my fingers that I'm going to be able to find someone , that the interview is going to go well , that I'm not going to say anything offensive , you know , because that's the thing I mean , we work all weekend long and almost every gig that John and I have had on Disney property because

ESPN club was not scripted , the stuff at ESPN sports complex , some of it is scripted but there's a ton of room to improvise . So that's always our main concern is how do we make this fun and a little salty so it's not completely , you know , white washed in or washed out in in in pixie dust . You know how do we make this more than just the pedantic ?

Hey , everybody , we want to have a great race and you guys are an inspiration . All that , and to me so much that comes from you guys . It comes from the interviews , the guest appearances , and then obviously everybody is able to work and improvise off of what they just heard , Again , whether it's happy , sad or anything in between .

Speaker 2

And I imagine the improv part is probably the most difficult part of this entire thing , because if it's scripted it's easy . Like you said , you have your rehearsals , but so much of it is on the fly you never know what you're going to get . Has there ever been a time when you found yourself speechless ?

Speaker 5

No , no , thank God . And but that's a fear I mean , but that's the juice I mean , that really is the juices that every time I walk out there with my camera guy it's always that same fear of am I going to lock up ? Am I going to clam up ? Am I not going to have a follow up question that makes any sense ?

Am I going to find a guest that you know either turns everybody off or I turn them off ? That's , you know , that's the .

Those are the only fears you know and that's the thing , man , you know about this job , whether it's theater , whether it's run Disney or anything in between , that moment of hey , you know you're on you know , go , oh , this is live , yeah , and you just do it . You know , you just do it .

Speaker 9

I'm sure there's a lot of inspiring stories that you've heard over the years of doing this , and I mean even just going to the run Disney races . There are some that have brought me to tears and I'm sure you know you've gotten emotional as well .

Can you share a couple of inspiring stories , maybe that people have told you that live rent free in your head kind of for the rest of your life , based on what you've heard at the run Disney races ?

Speaker 5

There's a young lady who has literally grown up in the run Disney family and that's a very positive thing because she started out very shy and now I think she , I think she's going to heading into college and she and her mom caught up with me this at the last springtime race and so I've literally witnessed her grow up , just , you know , growing this amazing

person . So that's on the positive side of just being able to see and make those contacts year after year after year and literally see people grow up yeah , couple staying together , growing older together .

But I have to tell you , the things that stick with me the most are I remember one of the first years that we had a run of no pun intended , of just had stories , heart wrenching stories , and I had like three in a row and the last one a woman had lost her husband , like a month before , and I've had several like this and that's why we always remind

every member of the Disney family to be kind to people out on the course .

Yeah her husband had passed away just a few weeks before and literally on his deathbed , made her promise that she would run this race , that , no matter how she was feeling , that she would run the half marathon and and at one point , you know , she just buried her head in my chest and it was live and you could feel the reaction .

And that to me , is when everything just clicked , when she put her head on my chest and you could just feel the entire run Disney family , you know , metaphorically , give her a hug and the reaction to that and that's what told all of us and I think you know , management , that look , this isn't , this isn't depressing and this isn't something that we should shield

people from . This is something we should celebrate , feature , because it's the human experience , it's a metaphor for what every single person on that course is going through and I can't help but be motivated by it .

And God knows , I'm sure you guys , when you're out there running , when it gets tough , you know , knowing that people that are running by you , running with you , are going through it , man , going through it , and especially after the last few years of what we've all gone through .

So you know , those are the stories that stick with me are some of the most tragic ones .

But the person is there and , man , when I get that payoff at the end of the race , if I , if I'm lucky enough to be out there , when that person you know comes up , gives me a hug and and I couldn't just sweaty and I could , I couldn't care less , and then I'm able to kind of walk or run with them and talk them across the finish line and share that

story again with the people there . I mean , that's priceless . You know I wouldn't do the gig for free but I would consider it because of that , because honestly it just it enriches me and enriches every member that run Disney family .

Speaker 9

That's amazing .

Speaker 3

And it set me up perfectly for my next question , because you're talking about you know the finish line , but what makes you unique as part of the run Disney announcing team is that we have seen you in multiple places .

You know we see you in the starting corrals , we see you at the finish line and there's even sometimes we see you at the expo because you know you're helping direct . You know people , you know at ESPN you had one particular place where you post up or even , let's add , you know , the family reunion area before we head out to the corrals .

Is there one particular location that you like the best ?

Speaker 5

Oh , it's got to be the finish line . Oh yeah it's got to be because , again , you know , I feel like we started to tell the story at the starting line and some of these stories run , you know , all weekend . You know , through every race we're able to thread . You know this person's story , that person's experience .

So when I get that payoff at the finish line and I obviously I'm speaking for John and Chris and Tracy and everybody else as well .

All of us love that Especially , you know , now it gets a little monotonous when you're just reading names and that's one thing that I'm really happy about with run Disney is that they're like you know , obviously , when you first get there and they're just , you know , they're individuals crossing .

Yes , you want to celebrate them by name , but once the masses start coming , you know it's , they want us . Well , we started doing it and then they were just like that's fine , you can keep doing that , but we love to be out in the corral or , you know , out in the shoot and just given high fives , given hugs .

You know , and you see it , you know these people that are in tears when you see them coming up that final little hill and they're in tears and they can barely make it and I can make contact with them and they see me and I can help . You know , do my little part to inspire them or at least talk them that last you know 100 , 150 yards .

You know that's there's nothing that tops that .

Speaker 4

I got a question for you so I know Chris ran the races . John just recently ran the races . Is Riley run the races anytime soon ?

Speaker 5

John did the 5k and you know I don't want to give you know too much information , but you know we're family so I have been and maybe this will actually help you know some other stupid man deal with this issue . I have been . I had a . I got a hernia prior to COVID so I've been nursing a hernia .

You know , obviously I wasn't going to do anything about it during COVID because you know that's way way low on the totem pole and there's so many are priority list and there's so many things , if any . Have you guys had hernias ? Have you had to deal with hernia ? I have my husband yeah well you read stories about it's like well , it'll heal on its own .

Or you know when I finally went to the just to the doctor the other day to finally get this taken care of he was like you know , I had a patient that had a hernia for 40 years . Anyway , my point is , that's why I haven't run for the last few years .

But I'm literally having surgery on the 18th of this month , so I will be fully recovered by wine and dine . So I'm thinking you know that certainly by springtime surprise , you know I can hopefully go to 5k or 10k . I've also got a lot of twisted . You know I played football in high school and you know running was just , it was a punishment .

Speaker 6

Right .

Speaker 5

It . Let you know anything . You know , like when sprints , you know , having something where you're competing against somebody , that was , you know , I'm your , I'm your Huckleberry , but just the solitary act of running , it's torture for me . And again , that is what it's .

My respect for you guys , you know , so much is it's I to this day , I'm just like how do you , how do you do it , how do you have the discipline To do it ? But all that being said and I'm sorry for pontificating , it's definitely one of my goals to to not get through this entire season and look , we're not even contracted yet .

You know so I'm a performer , so I don't believe anything's going to happen until the , you know , the contract is signed . That being said , I have , you know , fully anticipate coming back and obviously the things I'm hearing and all that are very , very positive .

That's good so hopefully in the spring if I'm , if I'm lucky enough to still have that gig , that I can maybe mirror what up help you did . At least do the 5k .

Speaker 7

I think the entire run Disney community would riot if you guys didn't show up .

Speaker 6

Certainly be upset , that's for sure .

Speaker 5

I appreciate you saying this . You know that we're going to be very , very humble . Now let me ask you guys this Do you are you guys ? Do you have ? I'll just say are you guys prejudice against non runners ?

No , no , I don't have any ill feelings that there's somebody , that there's somebody amongst this group who is , you know , talking to talk and walks the walk in many ways , but just does not , I mean does not do marathons .

Speaker 9

We're taking our head no , but we're going to say yes because we want to . We want to encourage you to do it . I appreciate it ?

Speaker 4

We don't , we absolutely don't I'll three interview Riley's getting some of my three miles . Get some of my seven .

Speaker 5

I would love to do that . And also I have to say , you know , when I was at the , at the , at the finish line for that for you , for springtime surprise , after pelki ran the 5k , I mean I was getting some love . You know , people were coming up and give me hugs and give me Dap and all that .

But there were so many people going to pelki and giving him hugs and saying I'm so proud of you and I admit I was I was a little envious . I was like you know , I want a little taste of that . Maybe that'll happen this spring .

Speaker 4

Great .

Speaker 8

So I'm curious then . So if you guys want to run the race , how do you guys go about that ? Can only one person , can only one of you guys run a race at a time ? Or like , do you have to register , what do you guys do ?

Speaker 5

No , no , that's that's a great question . That's that's another great consideration is that you know , prior to pelki doing it , you know Carissa was the only one who would , you know , run the , you know , run the 10k or do something like that . And you know there was a , I think , the first time she did it . I think we tried to .

You know , she was doing video hits from the course and some of that worked out technically and some of it didn't , but I think , you know , she just had such a great time doing it that we just continued , you know , saying , hey , yeah , if you want to run the 10k , run the 10k .

So it is a personnel issue as far as , yeah , I don't think two of us could run the same race , but I'm pretty confident that if I said , hey , this is something I want to do , that we could juggle how everybody does their things , that if I want to do the 5k , that wouldn't be any big deal at all .

Speaker 6

So Riley , what's the what's the funniest thing that's happened when you've gone to interview someone .

Speaker 5

All of that I can't think of like the funniest , but it would have to be . I mean anything , that's just my God . The guy that runs with the , you know , the lady in the tramp spaghetti table .

I saw that when we see these folks that are like I mean I'm just blown away , that where there's , there's no way this guy who's dressed and all this stuff is ever going to finish this race .

And then you see them at the end and yeah , they're poor and sweat , but by God , you know , he still got that big spaghetti table , you know , or table full of spaghetti all around them . That's the funniest stuff . I mean , there's so much stuff that happens and it happens so quickly .

And I think the other thing that I love about this gig is that it is so . It's like quick silver . You know , these moments happen . They're either funny or they're very emotional , and then it's gone and because there's so many races and so many people , they all just kind of blend in together .

Speaker 6

I gotta tell you Marathon I forget which one it was I'm next to a fellow who's carrying a tray Allah Ratatouhi and I said to him gosh , it must be tough holding that thing all this time . And he goes no , it's not so bad here , try it . I said , oh , you're right , that's not bad . And I go to hand it back to him . He goes that's okay .

Speaker 2

Sucker , there you go .

Speaker 9

So you mentioned somebody that you may have seen multiple times and you know we have Andrew the Corral singer here . I consider these people run Disney famous right , so you see them regularly , maybe every race or maybe every season . Are there costumes or personalities that you look forward to seeing every single time you go ?

Speaker 5

Yeah , yeah . And again , I know the Disney Day drinkers . They're always great what they're wearing and what they're coordinating . And there are the ladies who drink .

Speaker 6

There's a theme here .

Speaker 5

Those are the folks that I always look forward to seeing , and again , there's just so many of them , and it's now it's gotten to the point where I'll feel guilty if I don't get somebody on camera . You know that is a regular and , speaking of Andrew , the other Andrew , I think , is Andrew Strickland , the puppet runner .

Speaker 4

Yes , oh , yes , yes , we're talking about Remy and Ratatouille .

Speaker 5

He's one of my favorites because and I don't know if you guys follow him on social media , yeah , but he is always , you know , blogging about his weight struggles or this or that . He's a theater guy too , so obviously I relate to him on that level , but he is just so , just like our Andrew right here , so full of positive energy . I mean , it's just , it's .

It's not even how they say it or what they say , it's just you know they have an aura . Like you said , bob , you can't fake that . You either have that or you don't .

And I think , getting back to Andrew singing , I think that's one of the main reasons why everybody enjoys it so much , because you're not showing off , you're not trying to be showing , you're not trying to , you don't have an agenda , it's simply you've been asked to make everybody happy and you come through for us every race .

Speaker 2

You know , I'm a Disney day drinkers and it's funny because I was in the airport and I ended up talking to a guy named Skip and he was talking about about the Disney day drinkers . I was like he's like , oh yeah , I used to work on radio . I'm like wait , are you skip the prize guy ? He used to be on the radio here in Richmond on Q94 with Jeff Walker .

I listened to him every day . I went on location when they would show up close to the house and all of a sudden I'm running into this guy in the airport . And that's the Disney connection . I'm like . I love the fact that life is circular . It's so fun .

Speaker 6

Andrew , they were all . They were with us a couple episodes ago , oh .

Speaker 2

I'm gonna have to go back in . But no , that's it , it was just so . It was just so random that I ran into skip the prize guy and hadn't thought about it in years .

Speaker 8

So , Andrew , my question actually goes out to you . I have kind of a two part question what was your first song you ever sang and what is your most favorite one you've done ? Like your favorite moment in run Disney that you sang .

Speaker 2

I think the first one was under the sea .

Speaker 8

Oh yeah .

Speaker 2

I see everybody singing that one with you and the funny thing is that that has always been one of my favorites , except I guess my second favorite would be Ursula for unfortunate souls , yeah , I wanted to do the evil voice .

Speaker 6

Very appropriate for a run Disney event .

Speaker 2

And a lot of times we'll be when we're not running , because I don't run full marathon . It's just not going to happen , never going to do it , and we recently were told that we needed to stop running halves .

But we always , when we don't run , we go out as cheer squad and we get like in the middle to encourage people , and it's always nice because it's like the last time I was out at the expo , somebody came up running to me and she was basically in tears and she said you help me get through a race .

And I'm thinking this is this is why I love to do this . Yeah , if I'm on the course and I'm singing , it takes your mind off the pain that you're going through at that point .

Speaker 9

Or if I'm on the sidelines and you just happen to be passing through , I saw you at a race , one princess race and I asked you to sing and it definitely does help and you obliged , which is great .

Speaker 2

Well , I mean , I'm under contract to do it . Carissa would hurt me otherwise .

Speaker 5

I have a quick Carissa story about something like that . There was a young lady who approached Carissa at one of the races this season and told her that you know , a couple of race seasons ago that she had shown up to a race .

She got out of her car , she started walking to the starting line and you know , and all of that that , all that entails , and she got scared and she turned around and started going back to her car . She was just , she couldn't you know she suffers from anxiety and has issues like that and just couldn't control it and just became overwhelmed .

She's like I'm out . And at that moment she said that she heard Carissa giving one of her patented . You can do this , you know . And to me Carissa's words carry so much more weight because she does it , because she is an avid runner .

She gets it , she , you know she's , she's part of the religion and obviously , now that she's married into the Galloway family , it's a , it's a fairy tale we love it .

But one of Carissa's speeches literally turned this woman around and she went and did it and now she's been you know she's been doing every race since then and had the opportunity to come up to Carissa and let her know that and it was such a good moment .

It was great , the two of them hugging and they've been in touch ever since , and you know , and that's just one of many , many stories like that .

Speaker 6

Fantastic , it is .

Speaker 7

I know you mentioned a minute ago the lady in the tramp table .

Speaker 4

Yes .

Speaker 7

And there's one costume that you think should be done that has . You haven't seen it in a while or recently , or that . But also is there a race theme that you wish that you think that run Disney should do the race theming .

Speaker 5

I'm completely out of , you know . I mean I don't even . It's like , whatever they hit me with , I'm there for , you know I am . I am not educated enough , I'm not steeped enough in the , in the , in the , in the Disney history . I mean , I'm a huge Disney fan , obviously , but to come up with theming now I have all the admiration for that .

I would like to see some more jungle book stuff . You know jungle books my jam and I just think there's so many great characters from jungle book and I know , yeah , those the costumes can be , you know , heavy and probably a lot to put together , but I'd like to see some . You know , I'd like to see some jungle book out there .

Well , we should have a jungle book theme . There you go , I'm now answered both questions .

Speaker 9

Do you have a favorite theme from this past couple seasons ? Maybe that kind of surprised you with the costumes where you're like , wow , this is a 90s .

Speaker 5

Yeah , that was good . 90s killed me because I thought it was so much more 80s . Yeah , I'm Gen X man , so I know there's a lot of cross-pollination between the 80s and 90s , especially , you know , as those two decades meet .

But yeah , but no , that was clearly my favorite because you know , being Gen X and the fact that Carissa and John and Tracy Are also Gen X , there was so much stuff that we could just pull organically Mm-hmm , so that was a lot of fun . Do you guys enjoy that and do ? you guys agree that it seemed that the colors and all that seemed a little more .

Yeah , I . Don't think of the 90s with all that you know and X you know like bright colors and I think of the early 90s is kind of you know grunge and you know .

Speaker 4

Yeah , and pro-jams kind of dark and all that .

Speaker 6

Flannel a lot of flannel as opposed to all these pastels , but Riley , before we wrap this up , is there anything you'd like our friends to know ? Any last thoughts ?

Speaker 5

Well , look , you know this may be dangerous , but I know that on social media People will . I'll use this an example . And we're coming up on wine and dime . And one of my favorite things to say for years was treat yourself . You know the parks and recreation is like . You know you have sacrificed so much .

So when you're done with this race you know , you know , I drink all the drinks , eat all the eats . You know reward yourself , treat yourself . And I , just you know , in all of us were like well , yeah , there's nothing wrong with that . That's . That's what this whole thing is .

It's wine and dime run and then , you know , not gorge yourself , but you know and indulge in all the things that you've been sacrificing , that you haven't been indulging in as you've trained for this race . Well , on social media , there were some folks who were like you know , when you say that food is a reward , you know that's triggering me .

You know , because I've got these issues , I've had these issues and you know it's so easy just to go Ah , come on , man , don't take yourself so seriously . But that's not the job . The job is to take everybody seriously . The job is to create a safe space for everybody , regardless of what your triggers are and all that kind of stuff .

So there's a way that we can , you know , slalom around those things that are gonna trigger people or make them have any sort of negative thoughts as they prepare for this incredible , arduous journey that they're about to undertake . We want to know about it .

So that's what I would just say for you guys right now , if there's anything that you can think of , and certainly in the weeks and months ahead , if there's anything that we can tweak as far as our , our banter , our speeches , any of that stuff , if there's any red flags , positive or negative , always feel free to reach out to us .

Obviously , we wanted to be in a positive , constructive way . Obviously , social media is not always gonna be that way , but if there's anything that we can do to adjust and adapt to make things even better , more inclusive , more comfortable , more inspiring , then you know we're all about that .

Speaker 6

Okay , we've alluded to it a couple times . Tonight we have Riley , the man in the street , interviewer , and Andrew , the corral singer , here . Roddy , would you I don't want to ask , it's not right Would you please ask Andrew what he'd like to sing for us ?

Speaker 5

Andrews never turned me down . And again , we're so happy , sincerely happy that it's become a part of the run Disney family tradition To check in with Andrew and to see what kind of song , what kind of offering he's gonna give us , because there's just something about the way you sing , the tone , the sincerity that sets it all , sets us all at ease .

So , andrew , please , please , grace us with one of your songs .

Speaker 2

All right , I appreciate it . Oh , the seaweed is always greener in somebody else's league . Dream about going up there . But that is a big mistake . Just look at the world around you . Right here on the ocean fly Such wonderful things around you .

What marriage you're looking for under the sea , darling is better down where it's wet to take it from me Up on the shore . They work all day out in the Sunday slave away . Who are we devoting full time to floating under the sea ? That's it . John all of a sudden pops in from a nowhere to tell me that I'm doing an album .

Speaker 3

Well , we'll do you one better . Ladies and gentlemen , the little mermaid coming on on . Disney plus September 6 .

Speaker 6

Friends , what you , what you missed there and you couldn't , it was three , six , eight , nine little boxes , often back and forth in front of their microphones , as Andrew singing along in . Gentlemen , it's been wonderful having both of you with us . Before you go , let's start , riley , if folks want to follow you , get in touch with you . How can they do that ?

Speaker 5

It's real easy on Instagram , you know Riley Claremont and Facebook the same way . I don't do anything weird with my name , so it's just . You know . You can find me by my name Riley Claremont , on Instagram , I think , at Claremont Riley on Twitter , and then Facebook is just Riley Claremont as well .

And guys , thank you so much for what you do , because you know this stuff is so integral to the Run Disney family and just the fact that we have this podcast , the other podcast , all the stuff that the Run Disney family creates Outside of the races themselves you know that's why it's a family .

It's awesome stuff that we can all keep in touch and stay inspired all year long .

Speaker 6

Couldn't agree more . Couldn't agree more . Thank you , andrew . How about you ?

Speaker 2

you can find me at Instagram at sing run Disney and , apparently , I'm gonna have to start putting up more content because I'm not very good at it . But , Me that I need to start now , like yesterday . So I'm gonna do that .

Speaker 6

Awesome , awesome . It's been our honor , our privilege . We've had a lot of fun , but I knew we would See you , fellas , both in Catch this guys . 84 days , 84 days till I think that's expo day . Yeah , 84 days till expo day We'll see you there , awesome , can't wait . Well , that was fun . We knew was gonna be fun .

I mean , riley is a fun guy if you get a chance to , if you get a chance to talk with him . I mean whether he interviews you before the race or not , if you get the chance before or after , at least say hi . In fact , a great opportunity to say hi to all the announcers is at the end .

Unless you're out there cranking for a PR , drop by on the way out and just kind of wave at him , say hi , tell him you heard him on the rise and run podcast and they're all very nice people and I'm sure you'll be happy you said hello to them . Friends , I was at Disney World this week .

I made a post on Facebook and on my Instagram page and it got a lot of reaction and I kind of teased a little bit . I Did indeed try the pickle milkshake . So here's here's my reaction . First of all , the thing looks great . I mean it's it's a light green .

It's not what I would call a pickle green , it's almost like a key lime green milk , I'm sorry , whip cream on top . It looks terrific . They serve it to you in a plastic , a plastic jar modeled after a small mason jar or like a beaker .

Well , actually that's a video , but I'll get to that , if you want , in a second come on , I'm gonna tell us if it was delicious . Yeah Well , first sip right the . My first reaction was this is a lot sweeter than I expected it to be . I'm not a big milkshake guy in general , so I couldn't tell you .

The last time I've had a milkshake and that was my initial reaction was this is very sweet , but without doubt it's a pickle milkshake . You can taste the dill in it . It's . It's okay , it's , it's decent , it's not bad .

It as you go along , I end up stirring up , so the whipped cream got in it and it got creamier , that kind of subdued the pickle taste a little bit . I Would say to you I finished it . I'm glad I ordered it because it was fun . Would I have one again ? I will probably get something else instead , but it's not bad .

If you think you would like to try it , try it , try it . It was fun , glad I did it , not bad , and that's about the most I can say about it . But boy is Disney gotten ? You're a bang for the buck on that one .

Speaker 3

Oh , absolutely it doesn't matter if it was , it was a glorious taste or it was the world's worst thing in the world . It's doing its job , because when they dropped that there's gonna be a pickle milkshake , you know I've really lost their mind .

I mean not , not figment popcorn bucket , you know crazy , but I mean pretty darn close but , the question though they have is , bob , is Did the milkshake inspire you enough to give you inspiration for a possible 5k costume for one and I ?

Speaker 6

know , I don't think so . No , I don't think so . Yeah , there were . There were a lot of them being sold . I mean , it wasn't like there was a long line , but there were a bunch of them being sold . It's in the oh shucks . I forget what that building is called , but they've turned it into . Odyssey . Odyssey and they've turned it into the .

Speaker 4

Brewworks , they call it right now . I think right .

Speaker 3

Yeah , yeah the brew wing or something like that .

Speaker 6

Yeah , that's it and Professor Bunsen , honeydew and beaker . The characters aren't in there , but they pop up on a video from time to time .

As we were sitting there , one of the Cast members , who I'm quite certain was a member of Disney management and a nice fella , came and talked to us for quite a while , pointed out things on the table , things on the wall .

So there's a lot of investigating , a lot of fun things to look at in that building , and we tried some of the wings , and the wings are good . Becky tried the extremely hot Habanero . No , or I don't . I don't know what they are . They're supposed to be really hot . They're not all that hot .

The wings the ones that advertises they're hottest , they're not all that hot . I can eat them and I'm a big baby when it comes to hot stuff . So but it was fun and we we visited was friends . While we were there we visited with Rachel and her Stepdaughter Natalie , or son Caleb . Monica and Carrie were there too . I missed them , unfortunately .

I wanted to see Monica and the Chaos crew that also , you didn't get to see hashtag doby baby .

Speaker 3

I did not see .

Speaker 6

And we we didn't miss each other by a lot . I was . I was traipsing around there with that wooden sold shoe which my foot . After a while that just you get tired of walking on that hard shoe . It's no big deal .

But after a while that got old and so we headed out and unfortunately , as we were heading out , I got a text from Monica saying we're heading in , but we were going out the front and they were coming in From the boardwalk area , so I just missed it . To them . I did see the videos . They also tried to pickle shake .

Only one of the little ones liked that , the rest of them , no , thank you , but it's fun . If you are at Disney World . I , becky and I plan to be there today . As a matter of fact , thursday we're . We're going to visit again . We got one of our friends who's there , so we're stopping by to visit .

So if you're there , send me a message , maybe we'll get a chance to meet up . Ah , speaking of friends , hey , friends , the patreon link is up and running strong . We are so excited and thank you so much to those of you who have Expressed your support for the podcast through the patreon link . We're extremely grateful and we hope to be able to build and grow .

Thanks to your support we are . The Stickers that were promised to certain levels started going out this week . Ali got them to me and I'm sending them out from here . So I'm working on that .

I'm taking me a little while because I'm Handwriting all the addresses and all the just , you know the personal touch , you know so , but I should have those out by the end of this week . We want to recognize some of our patrons and , lexi , would you help us out this week please ?

Speaker 7

We would like to thank these new patreon members For joining the patreon crew . We have Vanessa , jennifer , tara from Ontario and Tara from Maryland , so thank you guys . So so much .

Speaker 6

Yeah , thanks , guys . Now again , that's not everyone .

Speaker 7

if you haven't heard your name , we will get to you , we promise , and we appreciate all of you and Speaking of patreon members being so generous , I would like to say a very special Thank you to Kay for her gift over this past week , and it brought me tears , so thank you . Thank you so much .

Speaker 6

Yeah , okay , that was really cool and case a lot of fun . Case that all the zooms K is very active and we appreciate all of our friends . But , kate , way to go , good job . This morning , in the customized training plan zoom meeting , coach Chris twigs was Going to try to be with us . He is currently in Lviv , ukraine , with his wife . His wife is an MD .

She is serving over there . This is her second or third time back , but it's Chris's first time to go . He did show up but he only was able to stay with us for two or three minutes . First of all , the connection was just a little wonky but he was just too busy to stay with us for long . But I want to mention two things .

Number one he's working at a place called front line kitchen and If you are so inclined , we're going to put a paypal Com , paypal me link where you can contribute to the front line kitchen and help out With what they're doing there , and what they're doing is preparing meals for soldiers on the front line .

The other thing I want to mention about Chris is here . He is in Lviv , ukraine , on zoom Wearing a bright lime green , rise and run podcast t-shirt . You got to love it , you got to love it . So we'll have to check and see how our ratings are in Ukraine this next week .

Our friend Pam still has her fundraiser going on for those of us who are trying to raise money through the sale of bass bombs for our charity bids . Check that out , if you would please . Pam's page , fluffy physiescom . The Charity link , as far as I know , is still right there smack dab in the middle of the front page . You can click on it .

Order a couple , help some folks out , help them raise money for their charity bid . Don't forget , if you place an order through Pam , you can still use your code happy running for a discount on your order .

Speaker 9

Now I would really like to Support some of the rise and runners that are running for charity .

So I'm thinking maybe we can start a thread and we can do another picture of the bath bomb that Bob Put together and then maybe everybody who's doing a charity , who's part of our rise and run Facebook group , if you can post your link that way I can quickly find it , other people can quickly find it and we can kind of donate to you that way , because I

really do Want to support our friends .

Speaker 6

Ali , I think that's great . Yeah , I'll be happy to start that and I think we can do that .

Speaker 7

That'll work and I mean , you know , we always buy a Pams , bath bombs , oh , yeah , yeah , she's been a really great friend of the podcast and we appreciate friends .

Speaker 6

Upcoming episodes next week , episode 99 , our Friend Brittany Charbonneau returns , will find out what's new with Brittany . Last we talked with her I think was right after the world championships in Thailand the world Trail and mountain running champions ships but she's been busy since then . I know she's got a couple of new things going on . The funny runner does .

It's always a delight talking with her . And then the weekend for that is episode 100 we starting to put together some things we think will be fun . We hope you're going to enjoy episode 100 .

Friends , it's time for the race report oh Okay , friends , let's start on Saturday and let's start in Boone , iowa , with the puffer Billy 5k here with us tonight in the race report . Spotlight our Friends James and Wendy to tell us all about it . Guys , thanks for joining , glad you're here .

Speaker 10

We're glad to be here .

Speaker 6

Thanks for having us and I got to tell you , james , when he dropped in on short notice . I'm embarrassed . I didn't get in touch with them till last night , but they're they're real troopers and Actually it's a little irony in that , since James just retired after 40 years of service to the US Army .

James , thanks for your service , thank you and congratulations on the retirement . I appreciate that . I know you're going on to bigger and better things . It's just when you retire from the service . That's kind of a midpoint almost , but there's more to do . But that's that , as fantastic as that is .

I Want to hear about you know , we talk about the big races a lot and we talk about the long races a lot . So I picked out the puffer Billy 5k . Number one because I wanted to say puffer Billy a couple times , and Number two because when do you had such a great post on why this particular race so important to you ?

So how about sharing that with us please ?

Speaker 11

So I am a reluctant runner . I like to say that I'm a couch potato trapped in .

Speaker 6

Like that .

Speaker 11

So over the years , you know , I've made various attempts at being a little more physically active . And way back in the 90s , mm-hmm I , when my I just had a couple of our four kids and they were little and I thought , okay , I'll get in shape . And my husband suggested we sign up for a 5k and I thought , oh , that's such a long distance .

Oh , I don't know if I can do that . I have the whole summer to work on it . So he signed us up . He was excited , I didn't give it another thought and the day of the race came and he's like okay , we're going . I'm like what ? He goes . Yeah , I'm like worst , I haven't trained that , there's no way I can do this .

He goes we paid money , you're gonna do this and you're gonna have fun . So off we went and we yelled at each other the entire . For both of us it's become family lore . Now , when we retired and we came back to visit with family , we're in the same area that we were then and I thought , just for fun , I'd look up and see when the race was .

And it turns out it was just . It was just a little bit after we got . So I suggested to James we sign up , and once he picked his jaw up off the floor , so we did . And not only did we run the 5k , we , we ran with my father-in-law who's 81 .

Speaker 6

Fantastic boy . I love hearing stories like that . That's awesome .

Speaker 11

So we , we all participated in it , and there's just something different about a small town race . I liked that the theme for this year was throwback to the 90s , because I felt I had come full circle . It was perfect yeah there was no yelling at each other this time , so I have redeemed myself a little bit and turns out , a 5k is not nearly so far .

Speaker 6

No well , it's the same distance as it was in the 90s . Oh yeah , felt farther than .

Speaker 10

This was a . This was a total race of redemption because , you know , as we talked about , you know , back when we signed up for this , we were both students .

I was a , you know , I , you know I just finished my master's degree and I had trained so hard For this race and because our schedules were such we didn't see each other often so I just assumed , and he was also training , and so the vision was to run this thing at a sub eight pace because we were , oh , we were gonna try for a 730 pace on , you know ,

for for this , for this 5k . And we get to the day of the race and she's like , well , I haven't even trained , and I was like that was . That was the basis of the frustration of the , of the , of the family lore , and I may have Lorded this over her for decades , oh my goodness .

And so , and so you know we we certainly enjoyed doing the run Disney Events together , but when Wendy approached me to say hey , let's do puffer belly days again , I was like you're , are you serious ?

Speaker 6

I think that's great .

Speaker 10

Are you ? Are you kidding me ? And so I was just thrilled that she came up with this idea Fantastic . And then we did the , we did this race and it was just . It's just a great race . There's just something about small-town America Races . There were , there were 30 , you know some odd volunteers . There was a volunteer on every corner .

Speaker 11

They greeted people by name , as you , as you ran not because your name was on your bid , but because they .

Speaker 10

Because they knew the list .

Speaker 11

Wow a lot of the people were local at the .

Speaker 10

The refreshments of the At the race were homemade .

Speaker 6

Oh , it's just a great run and then it starts and ends at a bakery starts and ends at the Dutch bakery . Well , that's right there . That's reason to head . There's reason to head to Boone Iowa next August friends Race and starts and ends at a bakery . We've talked about ones that ends at breweries , but that's kind of a toss-up man . Bakeries aren't good .

Speaker 10

Good yeah we probably undid any health benefit .

Speaker 11

Well , we knew we were in the right place as Disney fans , because inside the bakery , when we got our post race treat , the Directions were duct tape arrows on the floor . So you the trap , you knew how , where you were supposed to go . That was making mouse duct tape . So we nice , it was good , it was the right place .

Speaker 6

It was a sign you were right . That's fantastic . This sounds like it was a lot of fun it was . That's , that's great . I'm glad you got to do that .

I would ask the typical how did you get start running Question , but when do you kind of already explained that to us and James , I know as a soldier you've been running off and on for the last 40 years and Loving it no doubt .

Speaker 10

Right , it didn't start that way . I I was . I was a cyclist and so I was forced into running , just because that's what they expect of of military . I Read I signed when I originally enlisted . It was into the National Guard , and so I ran because it was required . And then I just learned to .

I just learned to love it then over the years and Got addicted to it .

Speaker 6

After having done it for so long , I Go back to the days we were still running in boots , my friend . Yes and I , and I honestly think I'm still paying for that a little bit , but that's all completely Other story so so I actually started in boots .

Speaker 10

Yeah so I was . I was the transition . The transition occurred in my lifetime . So when I went to the base , to basic training , it was in boots . I was still in boots , Okay when I did the , the subsequent training , it was called a it advanced individual training . Then they let us do tennis shoes .

Speaker 6

So I'll be darned .

Speaker 10

So it was my generation there that did the , that did the transition from boots to tennis shoes .

Speaker 6

I'd like to thank you for doing that . I appreciate even only the latter part of my career . I still appreciate it . Friends , what's coming up ? We heading to Disney anytime soon . We have other events on the schedule .

Speaker 11

So we're both doing wine and dine and we're excited about that .

Speaker 6

Oh , excellent .

Speaker 11

We are training for dope . In January , ali and my daughter , allison , from the group , both Suggested that if I've done as many since I've done as many half marathons as I have I can certainly try dopey . So We'll see how that goes .

And then , in the immediate future , in a couple of weeks , we're both going to Paris , texas , to do the Paris pair awesome to races back to back , and then James is going next week to do a race Saturday , saturday . So what is that called ?

Speaker 10

That's the , the gopher to Badger run Across the river . Yes , yes , oh and .

Speaker 6

Wisconsin . So the Wisconsin . We're getting ready for football season , aren't we ?

Speaker 10

Yes , yeah that's a half on .

Speaker 6

Okay , I didn't realize they were that close together . Yes , interesting , that's fun , that's fun . Well , wonderful . So look , we're excited . I'll see you again at wine and dine . We saw you last year at wine and dine . That was fun . Dopey , you can do it . You can do it . You just got to keep doing the training and keep moving and I'm out there training .

Speaker 11

I'm out there training . Learned my lesson , so now I try .

Speaker 6

I do chuckle . I think of my wife and the times that she said let's do a 5k and she did one training walk and anyway she she does him at Disney with me and you know we take an hour and a half . So Whatever , it's fun .

Speaker 11

I just hope people you know as they whether they're . I'm sure there are people , because this is a fun podcast and so anybody that listens who even contemplates Dabbling and running . If I can do it , Anybody can do it .

Speaker 6

Yeah , I that's . I have that message to Wendy , I do .

Speaker 11

I just think it's fun to try it and the people that you meet . You just can't .

Speaker 6

Yes , yes , this , this family , has been fantastic . I agree , and as example I use the two of you who showed up at the last minute for me , and I'm grateful for that .

Speaker 10

Thank you . Well . I'm just I just I just really appreciate you're doing this podcast . I I love it . Listen to it as we , as we exercise and run . You're doing a lot of good here in this With this work , so thank you very much Well thank you I .

Speaker 6

We genuinely appreciate that . We love doing it . I mean , it's yeah , I and I think it shows . So okay , all right , my friends , again , thanks a bunch . Pre-stupid . Sounds like a fun race . I don't know if I'll make it out to Iowa , but it still sounds like fun and We'll see you later , all right thanks , we'll see you .

James Wendy , thanks again , appreciate you spending the time with us . Let's move on . The biggest event in the rise and run community this week was in Cape Elizabeth , maine . The beach to beacon 10k sounds like it was a great event . It sounds like they had great weather for it , which is Really nice to hear . Let's start .

We had oh golly , we've got Six people who participated . Aaron was there . Aaron said the race is just so much fun she's happy that it's up in her neck of the woods . Apparently , they had a modern results board there . That sounds pretty cool .

Results were updated from your bib , kind of like when you're at Disney World and you get photos Based on your magic band or something like that . So the results board sounds good . Now this is cool . Aaron . Aaron , who keeps a pretty good pace in her runs past Joan Benoit Samuelson around mile two and a half . That's pretty cool .

Speaker 9

Wow , yeah , she's local .

Speaker 6

She was star struck . I can understand that . Now , despite that which you would have think would be the highlight of the run and it was definitely one of the highlights she said the real highlight for her Was seeing her kiddos at mile six for the final push up the last hill . Awesome , aaron , heidi was there .

Heidi finished strong , especially coming off about with COVID . Heidi says one of the highlights for her Bacon at mile five . Bacon's got to be a highlight . Caitlin was there , mary was there . Rachel . Rachel was 17 seconds faster than the last time she did this race . Rachel wants her sub 60 10k back . I hear you , rachel .

I understand , I think you're gonna get it . My friend Said this race , which she's done several times , was a blast as usual . Lots of goodies at the finish line festival Even got medals this year . I guess in years past there weren't always metal . And on the way home Rachel got to jump in the ocean Rounding out the rise and runners .

Sharon was also there at the Spartan Super in Asheville , north Carolina . Our friend Julie was there . Julie is one of our AWD's but she managed with help and she had quite an impressive team .

Speaker 3

Yes , this , this gang is impressive , oh my lord .

Speaker 6

The , the . This is a 10k with 27 obstacles Hills Creek's other natural obstacles . Julie managed to finish 20 of the obstacles and the full distance , so really pretty neat . Yeah , way to go , julie , way to go Julie's team . That was impressive . Julie's got two more of this style of race honor schedule for the year . In Langsburg , michigan , the legend trail race .

Shawn ran this one . The trail was beautiful , the hills were evil . For his efforts Shawn got a very nice looking wooden medal . I've seen some wooden medals before . In fact I know our will run for friends had a wooden medal , I think the first year of their virtual . Very nice . This one looks real nice . Also In Houston , texas , the watermelon dash 5k .

Brandy Brandy said it was hot and humid in Houston . I can't believe that . Oh wait , yes , I can , of course I can . Great , great looking . The two of them had these great looking watermelon outfits for this race . They were so cute . They sure were In Cadiz , ohio , the Harrison County cancer crusaders color run Carissa .

Cancer crusaders color run Carissa in Cadiz . You think she planned that it's a lot of seeds there anyway . Yeah , sure are great run work . Let's go report card . Very good . John Carissa says she loved supporting the charity that was able to support her late aunt During her time with cancer . Good run , carissa . Good cause To come to Washington .

The galloping Gertie half marathon . Galloping Gertie , I learned , is actually the nickname of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge Across which this race occurs . Kimberly and Josh ran that one was overcast and sprinkled . That's hard to imagine for the Seattle Tacoma area that it was overcast and sprinkling rain . I don't know if you've ever been up there . Great .

Speaker 3

Well , so I was just about ready to say this , so I was just in . I wasn't in Tacoma , but I was in Seattle for work last week , hence why I wasn't on the podcast and I was blown away because , again , all you hear about in the you know the the northwest of the country is it's gloomy and it's Raining , everything like that .

I had total , complete sunshine for five-day straights .

Speaker 6

It doesn't hold up all the time you left in a cocky oomie . I guess , no , of course it's not all the time , but they get their share of Of rain in that part of the country a relatively flat course . The galloping Gertie was great . Race day . Kimberly and Josh ran this one on their 23rd anniversary . Congratulations , guys .

In pigeonforge , tennessee , the midnight 8k , jimmy did that one . It was his first night run and his first 8k , so oh you did great , jimmy . I'm proud of you Good job , jimmy . In Charlotte , north Carolina , the at the US Whitewater Center , the Amphibious duathlon . Now , I hadn't heard of this one before . Kristen did this one , her first ever Duathlon .

I've heard of running and swimming . I've heard of running and biking . This was running and kayaking 5k run , 2k , kayak , 5k run hot , hard and fun . Good effort , kristen . Way to go . In Newport Richie , rounding out Saturday , the freaking hot 5k . And if you ran last Saturday in Newport Richie , yep , the race was appropriately named . Lauren did this one .

She did it 17 seconds faster than her last race . Her comment it was hot . Yeah , it sure was . On Sunday in Edwardsville , illinois , which is in the St Louis area , the watershed insurance run , six hour ultra . Buddy Chris did that . Didn't hear from Chris . Hopefully you will hear how he did in that later on and we'll try to get back to you on that one .

In Binghamton , new York , the Kelly Labar 5K . It's an annual run walk to celebrate the life of a local runner who passed away at the very young age of 25 . It's held in conjunction with the local speedy fest . That's S-P-I-E-D-I-E speedy gang . Do you know what a speedy is ? Lots of blank looks . No clue .

Steve , who ran this race , lots of blank looks at the speedies . I didn't know either . I had to look it up . It is an Italian beef sandwich with the beef prepared on a skewer , then put on a bun . I looked it up and one of the things that said the speedies are the pride of Binghamton , New York . You talk about being localized . That was localized .

Hey , big weekend , lots of food , hot air balloons , pretty cool Car show . They had great weather in Binghamton 62 degrees with a low dew point .

Speaker 3

Oh smoke , that's amazing .

Speaker 6

Yeah , yeah , I hear I've heard legends of weather like that . Steve wanted to practice his run , walk , run intervals . He's using three minutes run , 30 seconds walk and he now has a new 5K PR . Where'd it go , steve Post ? The Mesa , california , the Orange County Fair 5K .

Actually , the organizers for this race made a pretty cool Instagram post with some videos of the race , but our friend Jackie was there . Actually , it's a large fairground and the 5K takes place on the fairground so you get to run through the fairgrounds , play the games , win some prizes . Afterwards you get a ticket to the fair . After the run .

She had a PR and fun , nice , easy recovery after her 13 mile long run training run . The day before and while I don't typically talk about virtuals , our friend Lori did a virtual Olympic triathlon . That's a 1500 meter swim , which was her longest swim ever , I think by twice . I think her previous longest swim was 750 . 5k run , 25 mile bike ride .

Lori as we mentioned last week , she set a PR and I do not remember the distance . Last week Lori's been killing it , so I just wanted to give her a shout out to say way to go , lori , you're doing really great . And we had a Monday run again the final 5K of the New York State Park's summer run series . On Long Island , megan did this one .

Megan spent the weekend at Walt Disney World . I missed you too , megan . I'm a little bit of a stagnant , but there was some folks there I didn't get a chance to say hi to Now . Even though this wasn't Megan's best race in terms of results , it felt good to her to be back running . So great job , megan , knocking out that 5K .

Speaker 3

And one other race that I just want to call attention to and give a shout out to our friends Tom and Michael over at the World Run For podcast .

They both participated in the loopy looper ultra , which I believe it's a four mile course in South Jersey and it's they have a 12 hour and they have a 24 hour event and I both of those guys did the 24 hour event . I know Michael got over 63 miles and I think Tom got over 40 miles . I believe I think he got 10 laps in .

Speaker 6

So yeah , so they both killed it .

Speaker 3

You know Tom was trying to gross everybody out with pictures of his gnarly blisters on Instagram as they like to joke around their only yams content . But you know so I always appreciate , you know , that gang bringing the humor to running and everything like that . But again just want to offer big congratulations to those two guys on a job well done .

Speaker 6

Yeah , good job , good job , but yeah , that's great Friends . No zoom this Thursday .
