Overview
In this episode, I had the honor of checking in with Dr. Julian Reed, founder of ActivEd and College Instructor at Furman University. We chatted about a fabulous ed tech tool he created called Walkabouts. This tool is created for younger students (K - 2nd graders) and makes learning fun! Dr. Reed shares his research behind the development of Walkabouts and talks all about the benefits of kinesthetic learning. Walkabouts integrates language arts, math, and reading content with real exercises, making active learning easy — all with no special equipment, training, or extra space needed!
More About Dr. Reed
Julian Reed, a professor of health sciences at Furman University, says as a youngster, he got into trouble for moving and talking at school. So it’s only fitting that decades later, he becomes the founder of a company that marries learning with physical activity. His research focuses on examining links between environmental support and physical activity among youth and adults. Dr. Reed has collaborated on a variety of projects forging community partnerships and health initiatives at the local, state, and national levels. In SCRA’s “SC Launch CEO Podcast,” Reed describes his company – ActivEd – and recounts how he built its signature Walkabouts from a prototype to a product used in schools worldwide.
