Whoever said that in order to learn you have to read a book cover to cover is f.o.s. (Full Of ___) I like to drop in on books-many I have read before, but forgot most of what I learned. I dropped in on Angela Duckworth's book "Grit," and chose Chapter 3 because...well it sounded catchy, "Effort counts twice." In this chapter, Duckworth writes her formula for achievement, "Talent x Effort = Skill Skill x Effort = Achievement." *Most of us use none or only half of the equation. We say that others are "natural-born" or we use our talents and effort to develop only skills that make us a living instead of reapplying those skills to create a life.
