What a week. We are living through extraordinary and historic times indeed. The election is over and the fall out begins. Joe Biden will be the next President. Kamala Harris will be the next Vice-President. Here at Unlearn and Relearn, we are not fans of either one of them. Our work now will be to highlight their records as we hold them accountable for their actions going forward. Also, we need to break down what happened in the vote count. Trump increased his vote total to record levels only bested by Joe Biden who got more votes. At least 140 million people voted in this election. The most ever. While this is an amazing development, we can't overlook the demographics of who voted and what that means for our work going forward.
There were a few bright spots none-the-less. Drug legalization and decriminalization passed all over the country, propositions that help our most vulnerable passed, and politicians that needed to go, got gone. We also cover the power of organizing and mobilizing and how those efforts had a direct and immediate effect on the results of this election. This was a mixed bag election. Some things to be excited about and other things that point the way towards how much work is left to be done.
We say the names of our fallen for this week Charles Roundtree Jr. and Terrence Clutcher AND we highlight Author Layla Saad (Me And White Supremacy) for setting up a blueprint for competent anti-racism work and the Committee Of Seventy, doing work on voter engagement, registration, and holding elected officials accountable in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area.
There is much work to be done and we are only getting started. So take a break if you need to, relax, reset, and get back into the fight.
