Episode description
Hola! Como estas!
Since we keep on talking about things that you go back doing, let's talk about your English classes as well.
How is it going so far?
I just like to share that I am learning a new language now the same as you.
I am learning Spanish to make sure that I understand my students well and make sure not to have a misunderstanding especially for the beginner students who barely know even the common vocabulary in English.
To tell you, now, I clearly understand the struggle of some of my students and why they are so frustrated when I'm speaking so fast during a conversation.
By the way, I have to confess something. Actually, the first reason why I want to learn how to speak Spanish is because I love how you pronounce words especially those with letter R, C, and G. It's really cool for me! It seems that there's more conviction and feelings in the sentence when someone is saying it.
Here's what I did. First, I tried learning the common vocabulary in Spanish then watched some videos of people speaking Spanish slowly. There's one moment when I decided to challenge myself and watched a video of a normal Spanish conversation.
Honestly, it blew my mind. I was able to feel the same struggle decoding the words or translating them at the same moment a person is speaking.
I can really say that putting yourself into someone's shoes is one of the best methods to understand and know how to help them.
I made an assessment for myself and I can say that my Spanish level is...I guess below the beginner level. But I'm not taking it negatively, instead I'm taking it as a challenge for me to be more eager in learning a new language. And I am really alotting a time to do different activities just to practice them since there are a very few number of people who speak Spanish here in our place so I really need to find a way.
That's the end of the language plan that I want to share with you.
How about you? What are the new plans or things that you are doing in your English classes or even out of it just to improve your level? Are you also finding a way?
Start challenging yourself by using the expressions I used in my story.
1. So Far - up to this time
2. Put oneself to someone's shoes - to imagine oneself in the situation or circumstances of another person, so as to understand or empathize with their perspective, opinion, or point of view.
