EPISODE 15 - Jim Burns - Author, On All Things Empty Nesting and Doing Life With Your Adult Children - Reconnecting with your partner and helping your kids launch well
Jen and I are now in the empty nest stage - we are surrounded with all the stuff that our kids played with, treasured, wore and enjoyed - we are also surrounded by a haunting silence and emptiness - a quiet home devoid of chaos, friends of our kids everywhere, appointments, after school activities, go there, do this be here stuff that filled our lives with a hectic busyness and a sense of parental obligation. We had everyone under one roof and it felt good. This is a time of life that we anticipated would come some day.
For me as a Dad I sensed this empty nest state would equate freedom, my wife Jen has a different take on this - everything and everyone revolved around Jen with the kids here - she knew her role in all of our lives (mine included) now that keep the plates spinning season is over, and it feels strange.
I heard our guest on another podcast and he was talking to our situation - he had such wisdom and a heart for what we are living and I had to have him on - and to my great surprise and delight he said, yes!
