Apr 29, 2021•25 min•Transcript available on Metacast Episode description
Czech Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, Jana Maláčová, and FEPS Secretary General László Andor exchange views about their expectations concerning the forthcoming Social Summit in Porto. They look back and assess the effectiveness of the social policy measures implemented by the Czech government during the COVID 19 pandemic: the so-called “antivirus programme”, financed in part by the EU, and the various subsidies to families, triggered by the closure of schools and kindergartens during the lockdowns. While keeping unemployment at a very low level, the Czech government also ensured that application for various benefits, including the unemployment benefit became easier during the pandemic, thanks to a digitalisation campaign. The minister makes the case for EU minimum wage coordination, and attributes great importance to re skilling to facilitate long-term economic convergence.
