Episode description
Trigger warning: discussion of trauma. In this episode, Alex explains what trauma informed yoga teaching is. It seems like an overwhelmingly big word, but in reality, everyone CAN be a trauma informed yoga teacher, and everyone SHOULD be a trauma informed yoga teacher. One in four participants in a yoga class is likely to have survived trauma, and we have no idea who they may be in our classes. They may have experienced sexual assault, physical assault, abuse as a child, or even complex trauma such as narcisstic abuse survivors. Major trauma aside, in reality, everyone carries some level of stress, sadness and grief within them. As trauma-informed yoga teachers, we can make sure we create a safe space for all yoga students. In this episode, Alex explains some of the key aspects of trauma-informed or trauma-sensitive teaching. If this episode interests you, Alex will be teaching an indepth lecture on this subject as part of her 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training, Module 4 - the Heart Chakra.
