At the age of 19, he became the youngest African-American elected to office in New York State, serving 5 years on a School Board. Prior to Cents Ability, he served as the head of Government Relations and Outreach for the Jamel Robinson Child Welfare Reform Initiative. Roy received his bachelor's degree from Queens College, a master's degree from the New School University, and is the recipient of an honorary doctorate degree from a theological seminary.
