Joffre: ¡Buenas noches amigo Marty! Es un gusto saludarte nuevamente.
Marty: ¡Igualmente, mi amigo, gracias por invitarme!
Joffre: Es un placer, amigo. Necesito tu ayuda porque tengo un verbo que necesito saber cómo se traduce a inglés. Este verbo es: tardar, en español usamos mucho el verbo tardar para determinar el tiempo que toma o que tarda una acción. ¿Cuánto tarda una reunión? ¿Cuánto tarda llegar de un lugar a otro? Pero hay muchas formas de traducir tardar al inglés, de hecho, yo use el traductor y lo que me dijo el traductor es: take y entonces me quede confundido, take? Entonces dije:- necesito hablar con un experto, necesito hablar con mi amigo Marty para encontrar la forma de traducir correctamente tardar y tu me has explicado que existen 3 formas principalmente de usarlas que me gustaría compartir con nuestros amigos. La primera que tu me has dicho es: to take time, la segunda es: to delay something or to delay y la tercera es: at the latest.
Marty: Uh-huh
Joffre: Escuchemos unos ejemplos con nuestras amigas Susanne y Marta.
Susanne: How long does it take you to get ready before you leave in the morning? Suzanne: Do you have something to do that you can´t take too long to do? Well, when I was working, because I’m retired now, one of the things I had to do was iron some clothes and usually that didn’t take me too long but sometimes I could be late.
Marta: ¿Hay algo que tenga que hacer que no pueda tardarmucho para hacerlo? Pues definitivamente las cosas labores, de la oficina, del jefe que pues no hay opción y/o en su caso, si tengo algún malestar que definitivamente no pueda con él y tenga que referirme con algún médico, pues es eso, llamarlo y/o ir directamente al consultorio, ¿no?
Suzanne: By what year do you think the pandemic would be over? Well, I don’t think we are out of the woods yet and I think It would be a few years before things settle down. This virus is very smart and modifies its genetics up and so far, is winning the race.
