Great Britain abounds in family curses, usually involving wiping out a complete bloodline.

The Tichborne curse
The Chained Oak Tree
The Earls of Stair curse (if you have not heard of them it is because the curse worked)
The Lambton Worm (which sounds suspiciously like Smaug from The Hobbit)
And the Curse of Tutankhamun which inspired the films of The Mummy.
