School board races have been making the news en masse because this incredibly powerful but incredibly local elected position is the target of far right Republicans and a group of moms that we refuse to type out because it’ll boost their searchability. These positions dictate what’s taught in schools, how they function, and so much more that our guest, a member of the Boise, Idaho School Board, Shiva Rajbhandari walked us through. Going from the basics to beyond, the conversation dives into why this role is not just vital, but really needs to include youth voices in it. Shiva tells about his campaigning experience as a high schooler, but also as a person that got his start as a climate activist. He shares the tea, the Idaho politics vibes, and why young people need to be stepping up for these roles. We also learn that he’s a Swiftie, so hard yes in our books.
