Truth be told, even in a much more “virtual” world, we as photographers still need to establish ourselves in any market with our PHYSICAL presence.
You could have the best SEO in the world, and even be recommended by local venues, but if you’re not THERE building connections, it’s going to be really easy to lose your grip to someone who is.
Of course, if you don’t live somewhere, you can’t be there all the time. When you’re not there, use your portfolio, blog, and social media to highlight your shoots in the area —and to share your knowledge of the region and space.
Start building up your market-specific portfolio, so prospective clients can see that you’ve been there, you know the area well, and you know how to capture that location’s unique magic.
