玄德章第六十五古之善為道者，非以明民，將以愚之。民之難治，以其智多。故以智治國，國之賊；不以智治國，國之福。知此兩者亦 稽式。常知稽式，是謂玄德。玄德深矣遠矣；與物反矣！
然後乃至大順。
第 六 十 五 章
古 之 善 为 道 者 ， 非 以 明 民 ， 将 以 愚 之 。
民 之 难 治 ， 以 其 智 多 。
故 以 智 治 国 ， 国 之 贼 ﹔不 以 智 治 国 ， 国 之 福 。
知 此 两 者 亦 稽 式 。常 知 稽 式 ， 是 谓 「 玄 德 」 。
「 玄 德 」 深 矣 ， 远 矣 ， 与 物 反 矣 ， 然 后 乃 至 大 顺 。
Dì liùshíwǔ zhāng
gǔ zhī shàn wéi dào zhě, fēi yǐ míng mín, jiāng yǐ yú zhī. Mín zhī nán zhì, yǐ qí zhì duō. Gù yǐ zhì zhìguó, guózhī zéi﹔ bù yǐ zhì zhìguó, guózhī fú. Zhī cǐ liǎng zhě yì jī shì. Cháng zhī jī shì, shì wèi `xuán dé' . `Xuán dé' shēn yǐ, yuǎn yǐ, yǔ wù fǎn yǐ, ránhòu nǎizhì dà shùn.

65. Subtlety
The ancients did not seek to rule people with knowledge,
But to help them become natural.
It is difficult for knowledgeable people to become natural;
So to use law to control a nation weakens the nation,
But to use nature to control a nation strengthens the nation.
Understanding these two paths is understanding subtlety;
Subtlety runs deep, ranges wide,
Resolves confusion and preserves peace.
那些擅長實踐道的古人並沒有想開導人們,而是讓他們保持無知。人民很難治理,因為他們有太多知識。因此,用知識去治理國家是一種不幸。而不用知識去治理國家是一種福氣。瞭解這兩者,就是了解治理的原則。瞭解了這個原則,就擁有了終極美德。這個終極美德是深遠的, 它與其他事物相反。只有當萬物回歸於它時,我們才能達到無比的安寧。
