Episode description
In this episode, we'll be taking a closer look at an explosive masterpiece created by the renowned Chinese artist Cai Guoqiang - "天梯" (Tianti), which translates to "Sky Ladder."
Tianti is a breathtaking firework artwork that was first unveiled in 2015 in the city of Quanzhou, China. The piece consists of a series of ladder-like structures, which are suspended in mid-air and then set alight, creating a stunning display of light and sound. The result is a truly awe-inspiring spectacle that captures the beauty and power of fire.
Cai Guoqiang is no stranger to creating spectacular firework displays, having worked on many high-profile events around the world, including the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. However, Tianti is a unique and deeply personal work for him, inspired by childhood memories of his grandmother and the idea of reaching for the heavens.
In this episode, we'll explore the inspiration behind Tianti, the technical challenges of creating such an intricate and complex artwork, and the cultural and symbolic significance of firework art in Chinese history and tradition.
