Today we have the pleasure of speaking with Regina Renaye about her evolving entrepreneur journey. We also delve into a topic close to her heart, the cultural construct of the "strong black woman."
Regina is an award-winning mental health advocate and the founder of Mindful + Melanated, a peer-led community for Black women who need a safe space to tackle their unique issues around mental health and wellness.
Regina has been battling depression since childhood. Her first suicide attempt was at the age of 12. As an adult, Regina muddled through life wearing a mask to hide what was really going on inside. Publicly, Regina was an overachiever, but privately she was numbing her pain with alcohol.
After several depressive episodes, suicide attempts, psychiatric hospitalizations, and breakthroughs, Regina decided to share her story with the hopes of helping other Black women in their mental wellness journeys.
She does this through her Strong Black Woman Support Group community and podcast as well as her Strong Black Woman Redefined Conference, an annual event in which providers, politicians and persons with lived experience come together to dismantle the cultural construct of the “strong Black woman.”
Regina has been recognized by the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health, Massachusetts State Legislature, and several community-based organizations. Regina is a member of McLean Hospital’s Women’s Mental Health Leadership Council and sits on the Board of Directors for the Randolph Women’s Club.
