In this episode, Rebecca Jones is joined by Senior Advisor at St. Jude’s Research Hospital, Jennifer Castell. After opening their doors in 1962, St. Jude’s has worked tirelessly to raise the survival rate of childhood cancers from 28% to over 80%. Castell found her path in the nonprofit world after trying out the profit management world. In a full circle moment, Castell found herself at her dream career with St. Jude’s, an organization that she had donated to as a child in East County San Diego. Describing herself as resilient, Castell finds balance in her career by focusing on giving the families that she works with as much hope and time as possible. Personally, Jennifer is a firm believer in self care and enjoying nature. When asked to give advice to young girls following in her footsteps, Castell encourages young women to be flexible when it comes to their career paths and to take chances on different avenues to find their passion. She encourages girls to be present with their loved ones, be confident in yourself, and most importantly, to have grace for others - you never know what they are going through.
