In this episode, Rebecca Jones is joined by the Executive DIrector of the Jackie Robinson Family YMCA, Anna Arancibia. The Jackie Robinson Family YMCA is a longtime staple in the San Diego community, providing resources such as swim lessons, quality and affordable youth sports, health and resource fairs, free sports physicals, and teen nights. The women discuss the toll that the pandemic has had on our youth, and the importance of safe recreation spaces in our communities. Arancibia found her home with the YMCA organically and early on, after figuring out that other fields were not for her. When asked for a word to describe herself, Arancibia chooses passionate. A natural introvert, Anna is inspired and passionate about the work she does with the YMCA. She holds true in her belief that every child and family should be provided opportunities within their community. Arancibia talks about the difficulties of balancing being an executive, a mother, and also finding time for herself. Her leadership philosophy is to lead with love and encourage those around her to be their most authentic selves. When asked to give advice to young women following in her footsteps, Arancibia encourages girls to see themselves as leaders from early on, speak up, get out more, and to cultivate a solid support group around you.
