At it's heart, Gran Torino is about an old, set-in-his-ways (racist) war veteran realizing that he has more in common with the hardworking, honest Asian family next door than he does with his own spoiled American family. The trouble is, the guy is just so damned racist that it's hard to get comfortable with him. And even when his opinion of the family next door changes, the offensive language he uses to describe them doesn't. Gran Torino is a tough movie to talk about. Join the discussion: Email...
Apr 12, 2021•1 hr 2 min•Transcript available on Metacast Ask the average person what they think of when they hear the name Rambo and they'll probably say something about an over-muscled rageaholic murdering dozens of people with weapons meant to be mounted on vehicles. Even if they know better, they'll probably agree that this first movie in the franchise is called "Rambo". Neither of those things is entirely accurate, so we're setting the record straight in a podcast covering one of Sylvester Stallone's best movies. Check out https://club.baldmove.co...
Apr 07, 2021•1 hr 11 min•Transcript available on Metacast Road to Perdition is the only movie we could think of that features Tom Hanks as anything other than a wholesome heroic type. It turns out he's an honest-to-goodness actor and he can absolutely pull off the Irish gangster dead set on avenging his murdered family, especially when he's sharing the screen with other talented actors such as Paul Newman and Daniel Craig. Mar 15, 2021•1 hr•Transcript available on Metacast I didn't know much about "The Troubles" in Ireland going into this movie and, to be honest, I don't feel like I know any more coming out of it. History lessons aside, The Boxer includes some excellent performances from the entire cast in a movie that is more of a meditation on borrowed resentment than a traditional boxing story. Feb 01, 2021•1 hr 2 min•Transcript available on Metacast Gather round the campfire to hear us tell the tale of the gunfight at the box office corral where Kevin Costner and Kurt Russell dueled to settle which of them could create the better Wyatt Earp film. Though Costner started with his hand on the script, it was the faster, wilier Russell who prevailed in the end, buying up all the cowboy gear in Hollywood and raking in the dough while Costner's "Wyatt Earp" lay dead in the street. Seriously, that's exactly how it happened. The production of Tombst...

Dec 02, 2020•1 hr 23 min•Transcript available on Metacast Over the years there have been many film adaptations of Stephen King's work. Today we're covering one of the finest. Starring Kathy Bates and James Caan, Misery is the story of fandom gone wrong. Or maybe it's an allegory for over-zealous editors. Or it could be an author's struggle with drug addiction and the backlash from fans when their writing ventures beyond a specific genre. Join us on the podcast as we debate this question and discuss what makes Misery so great. Check out our club.baldmov...
Nov 30, 2020•55 min•Transcript available on Metacast In this week's episode of Fargo, the drug war is heating up... wait, I think I've said that before. In fact, it's been heating up for at least half the season now. And while things have certainly progressed, with bodies in the streets and gang shootings in the papers, the ambition of this season's storytelling make it somehow feel like the war is still simmering away on the back burner with just a single episode left. Join us for the podcast to get our full episode breakdown. Check out our Club ...
