Part 2: Since his first response was recorded, the letter sent to Gary has blossomed into an entire website with a condemnation of certain aspects of what the creators believe is "hyper-preterism." A few hundred individuals have signed it, but the most relevant part of the statement is that Scripture verses have finally been included, giving Gary a place to begin interacting with both the original three questions and the statement.
Part 1: Gary received a letter signed by several individuals looking for answers to three specific questions. In this first podcast of several, Gary gives his side of the "controversy" and why he won't simply answer their questions. A large part of the issue is how the questions are worded. The heart of the matter is what does the Bible teach, not what does Gary believe.
Gary answers a listener question about theonomy and Leviticus 19. Many churches teach, including the listener's, that Old Testament laws not repeated in the New Testament are no longer binding. But Paul writes in 1 Timothy 1:8 that "we know that the law is good, if one uses it lawfully." Paul wrote this BEFORE there was such a thing as the NT and the OT was the only Scripture he had. There is much more to this topic than simply relying on a made-up rule about repetition between the OT and NT....

While not a review of either the movie or the movement, Gary laments the shallowness of what was taught (or not taught) by this captive audience of new believers more than 50 years ago. Gary discusses comments made at Davos 2023. The World Economic Forum honestly believes that they are the elite of the world with all the answers. John Kerry made the point that they are "almost extraterrestrial," in that they're here to save us from ourselves. This reminded Gary of an old TV show (of course) called the Twilight Zone and one of its episodes in particular.
Gary concludes his interview with Jay Rudolph on the Plumb Line radio program. History is full of examples of both kings and religious leaders overstepping jurisdictional boundaries. The Bible is clear that government and politics are not the same. There are several broad categories of governments—family, church, civil—but each one is dependent upon self-governed individuals. As Robert Winthrop succinctly put it: "Men will be governed by either the Bible or the bayonet."

There’s a lot of talk about "free speech" these days. But is it really? Speech is not free in the sense of being without cost; it’s free (at least theoretically) in the sense of being without restraint. But those who cry the loudest for "free speech" when they think their’s is being restrained, are also the biggest restrictors of speech when given the opportunity.

The New Testament is filled with references, both explicit and implicit, to Old Testament law and especially the 10 Commandments. Those who believe that the Law is no longer valid and has been done away with by Jesus, do not live lawlessly. All people, even non-Christians, make laws that they expect others to honor and obey.
