Episode description

The POCcorn podcast reviews films created, directed and/or starring People of Color. Each show uses four questions to describe our thoughts on the film, plus one POCcorn moment we simply MUST discuss in detail.

In this episode, we discuss The Visitor. A film that occurred in 2007 depicting a lonely college professor, dealing with the grief of his late wife by autopiloting his way through life. When his job pushes him to attend a conference in NY, he returns to his long abandoned apartment to find it has been sublet by two immigrants. Allowing the couple to stay in the apartment with him, a bond is formed. And we are invited into the world of this odd friendship through sharing of culture, of art, of love, and ultimately heartbreak. The film highlights the abrupt injustice of detainment and deportation, trapping all who dare to view it in a space of frustration, hope and the reality of America. Listen in!
