All right. 3, 2, 1. Let's get it. Welcome to today's episode. I'm your host Marsh Buice and today we're going to dive into a concept that has the power to transform your approach to success and fulfillment. There's a term that I stole from Jimmy Carr that I absolutely love is called process-driven ambition. Now you may be wondering. What does that even mean? And so I want to break it down. To what it means to me and how it applies to you as well.
So if your outcome driven, think about this, if your outcome driven. Which is what most people are. Your happiness hinges on achieving specific goals. But what happens? If you don't reach those goals. What happens? If they take longer than expected. And even if you did achieve the goal. Sometimes you get to the summit and you realize. It's not what it was all cracked up to be. And you realize the fulfillment, the enjoyment. Was in the chase, not the trophy.
This is what I like about process-driven. Ambition. It's different. It means that you can be ambitious and push yourself. While also being flexible in your thoughts and your actions and your processes and your timeline. You don't worry about the timeline until as your timeframe. As a legendary 49ers coach, bill Walsh wrote a whole book about it. The score takes care of itself. So when you can focus on the process, you let the outcome. Unfold naturally.
The outcome is going to be what the outcome is. Like. I tell my salespeople, I can't. Control if a customer decides to buy or not, but I can heavily influence it. And it's based on. Process-driven ambition. See, this is very freeing. It's very liberating because process driven ambition shifts your focus. From the finite goal. To an infinite journey. It never ends. It's constantly evolving. So imagine waking up every single day. Driven by your process. Rather than a specific goal.
The goal gives you the direction. But the process. Is your daily journey. It eliminates any sort of self negotiation and negative narratives. And because you're focused on the next step because you're focused on the next action. You just check the box and keep going. So let me give you an example for my own life. When I first got into sales. Uh, 26 going on 27 years ago. It doesn't seem that long ago. You realize I've devoted half my life.
To the profession of sales I got in sales man, when I was 25, B 51 coming up, man. It's like, whoa, what happened to the time? But anyway, when I first got into sales, I was taught to follow a specific process. Meet and greet the customer. Find common ground with them, qualify them inventory walk demo the vehicle, write it up. Look at the trade, deliver the vehicle. Follow up. And see the process. We had the know that thing backwards and forwards.
Which is great because it had to be just a habit. Second nature. And so that process became my guide and it kept me on track. Regardless. Of the emotions or the outcome of each sale, because when they set that process up, He said, look, sometimes you're going to have a hot hand going and you're going to do well. But what about the times when nothing is going in your favor? This is why working a process. The numbers will work themselves out.
The numbers always take care of themselves, but what happens is, is people pull back. On the numbers on the execution, on the effort. In hopes that it'll just somehow fix itself. No, you have to play it all the way through. But if you stick to a process, Of going through. These bullet points through your day. It's going to work itself out. It always does. So see the process that I followed in sales is the same sort of concept that applies to everything in your life.
Your personal life, your professional life. Your fitness goals. Sticking to a process. Is what's going to bring you fulfillment. You're not going to be happy all the time, but will you be fulfilled? And let me tell you how you're going to be fulfilled because you're going to be sticking to a process. And just working this every single day. You're going to make incremental progress. Sometimes it's 1% progress. Other days it's 12% progress.
Sometimes you don't see the physical progress, but you have the mental progress. So things are connecting inside. Even though today, it looks like a loss. There are things that are being rewired and reconnected. And grant you the experience and the knowledge and the skillset. That sets you up. To incrementally physically when in the future. But sometimes man, you take a physical L. But a mental win. And you got to understand that. If you think about the frustration that you have in your life.
I'm not frustrated because of the things that I do. I'm frustrated about the things that I didn't get around to. See, that's the thing. And so I would rather be pushed hard and work in this process every single day. Then the sit here and just kind of float along. Figuring out, trying to do the best I can. No. You just instill that process driven. Ambition. So, how do you do this? How do you implement? Process-driven ambition into your life. Glad you asked.
Let me give you some foundational steps. Number one, you got to get adequate sleep. everybody's needs is different. So I'm not going to sit here and say, this is how many hours that you need. You just listen to your body. Sometimes man, you're not going to get around to everything. And so it's going to be a majority vote. That you do most of it. Most of the time. And other times you listen to your body. And you just get some rest. So get adequate sleep, man. Number two. Set a wake up time.
Having a set wake up time every single day. Even if you have poor sleep or short sleep. This sets your circadian rhythm. That your internal time clock. And so it'll get that thing back on track. You can't catch up. On sleep. The scientists say that. So it feels like you're rested, but your internal clock is all jacked up because you're all over the place. So having a set, wake up time. Is going to set that, so that way you don't get yanked around by your emotions.
And you don't get yanked around based on whatever's going on for the day. So you budget your time to take care of yourself. You come first, you put yourself first, every single day, then the world gets the best version. The best representation of you. Number three. write Empty your mind to clarify your thoughts. And I will challenge you. Just write one page. You can capture the thoughts from yesterday. What, what stood out.
You can write that you can write gratitude, you can write word for word from a book. You can record your thoughts in your voice memo app, or passages that you saw in a book, or saw it on a video and how, what it means to you, how it relates to you write about that. But what's important is, is that you don't get all clogged up in the mind and that you empty. Empty those thoughts every single day on paper. When you do this, you think, what's the use in this. If you do this.
For 90 days, I'm telling you. Things are going to change for you. Your narrative is going to begin to change. You're going to think clearer. You're going to think quicker. You're going to be more concise. You're going to communicate better. So many intangibles to that. Number 4 Set 15, 20 minutes aside every single day. For some random reading I like to take a different book every single day lately I've been. Uh, been jamming on James Clear's atomic habits. Read it several times.
But normally I just go to another book the next day, but I've just been so intrigued and I'm in a different season of my life. That a lot of the stuff that I've read before, I totally forgot. And now I'm just picking these things back up and saying, oh, I'm missing this. Number fiveShare . Everybody's an expert at something. Share your knowledge, contribute to society. Teaching. Reinforces the learning. So people get to learn from you. But while you teach it, you learn it even better and deeper.
And a lot of times the. The things that you teach. People leave a comment. Our contribute. And now you can add that. To your learning to your knowledge and they end up teaching you. To great benefit, but it'll never happen if you don't put it out there first. The universe is, uh, you first. Society. She says, you go for anything that you want. You go first. I'm not going to bring it to you. I'm not going to serve it up. But I'll reveal it to you.
I'll show you how to get there, but I'm going to test your commitment. I'm gonna make you put in the work. Number number? What are we on? Number six. Designed to align plan your day. From working out. To eating to what you're going to wear to where you're heading in life. Set the intention episode 8 41. I was just talking about that. Is the intention. What is the intention that you put in, in everything that you do? And I wrote that because I realized man, some days.
Like in my personal life, I have an intention. But sometimes man, when I get to work, I just cause it's sales and it seems so unscripted. That I just lost the intention. So I'm just kind of floating around. I was spending so much extra energy. on Things that didn't bring back to my impact. And I was getting to the end of the day more frustrated. Because I wasn't setting the intention. So that recalibrates me see sharing that. Actually benefited me. Because I can learn that deeper.
So designed to align, make sure that you have an intention in everything that you do. When you follow our process, you can focus on the five CS. The five C's. Our communication. This is what's going to keep you RFA ready for anything. This is how you'll handle the adversity. Embrace uncertainty and never settle again. Number one, communicate. Communicate effectively with yourself. And others that are aligned with your path, the other ones. The bullshit people. Be unavailable. Curiosity.
Ask questions instead of making statements all day long. How can you use this? What does this mean? Hey, let me ask you a question. Just you'd be amazed. If you would suspend what you think, you know, And go chase what you don't know. There's so much more out there that we don't know than we do know. Number three creativity. Be resourceful. When you lack resources, 90% of population sit around bitching about what they don't have. 10 percenters. It's you. You get resourceful. Lack is leverage.
So when you don't have it, You use what you got. Continuous learning. This is part of the 15 minutes of random reading every single day, man, you need to be learning something different that would probably give you something to write about. What did you learn today? The wilt, what I learned today? Uh, number five productive confrontation, addressing issues. Head on. Without attaching a negative narrative to it. So, let me ask you this. As we wrap this up, what frustrates you?
What do you not accomplishing right now that you wish you were. Chances are you're too focused on the goal. The goals are important. Don't get me wrong. The goal provides the direction. But the system. A process of repeated simple actions every day. That's how you're going to get there when you get there. What you do. Is up to you. When you get there. It's not up to you. You control the, what you let the universe handle the when so you've got to align your life.
With these foundational principles. And you're going to find that the outcome's going to take care of itself. Just stay focused on the process. All right. Let's get out of here. Thanks for tuning into today's episode. If you enjoyed it, do not forget to subscribe. And share this episode with one person who may find it helpful. All right. Until next time, keep it simple.
