So my friends, my best friend's husband through her a surprise dinner because she got her I think it's her second massages degree. I can't rely she got. But so she didn't know nothing. So all of her closest friends were there and most of us don't like

each other, but we got along real good for her. Then, Uh, Saturday, we I had my annuals so I belonged to this group. We do a gift exchange every Christmas. Is the twelfth year in a row. I've only been participating for six years. But uh, and we have a theme and we get together, we exchange gifts. Is really nice. I did that. We had a sneaker ball theme this year, which I really hate sneaker balls because I feel like you're not supposed to have on them shoes with those nice dresses. But

it's comfortable though, it's comfortable, but it ain't cute to me. Yeah, we have balls all the time. I've never been to one though, like the little snaker balls, sneaker balls And that was Oh and then I put up my Christmas tree. I know I'm late for y'all. People's like, ain't no point in putting it up Christmas is is the It was the eleventh or something like that. So what's the rule on when to put the Christmas tree up? I think you gotta put it up the day before Thanksgiving

us something. Who's that that we got? Like what you put it up the day after Halloween? Actually, girl, it's Halloween, Christmas, Christmas, Christmas two days and Thanksgiving and then Christmas, Christmas, Christmas. Why my home girl ain't never took her Christmas treet down. But about he's a former Soviet military officer and he was serving a twenty five years sentence in America for conspiring to kill Americans allegedly right, well, not allegedly because he was um, I mean, he was convincing, right,

So they did the swap for him. So people are saying, like, oh, they should have you know, gotten a couple other people for him, like that, the crimes don't fit. We don't know if this man was rightfully imprisoned in this country. That's just another perspective I want to offer, right, because why would they swap that type of person for uh celebrity basketball player? Right? But we ain't gonna act like she's just innocent now, Yeah, of course not. But I mean,

did the punishment fit the crime at all? And I understand it being Russia, I think it was more it doesn't fit the crime in the United States, but she was not in the United States. And what people need to understand is you can't you're not governed by the laws of where you're from in other countries. You can't just do what the funk you want. You can't go over to Russia. They smoke your cartridges. You're not in l a no more, bitch, you got by by the laws of the land. So we know that a lot

of people commit crimes, they're just not calling right. So what if it were you, I wouldn't give a funk who they had to trade. Bring my bed home. That's how I feel like. I thought I was a lawyer. I didn't even know that you could actually request something like that, but I guess you can if you can get a public defender, you know, somebody to represent you. So that's something else he needs for his legal defense. UM, I personally don't think that he is the shooter. There was multiple people out there. I watched those videos multiple times, just the the UM the altercation leading up to UM take Off being shot, and I didn't see him. I didn't see

him in the video. I don't want I didn't watch that. Yeah, I didn't see him, So I don't know. This ship is real sketchy because remember initially after um take Off as murder, they supposed he had this dude, a low low something somebody that was first he was dead, then he was actually on Twitter tweeting, and then like now he's in jail for some other ship that they were

So during cross examination, the l a p D officer Sandra Cabro, who pulled over the STUV Mega Stallion and Tory Lanes was riding in um says Kelsey had blood and scratches on her leg, plus a ripped strap on the left side of her Babes suit. So clearly there was a fight. Whoever called a police was like the neighbors or somebody

M um, and so I don't know exactly what the prosecution strategy is, but the defense strategy is like really just making Meg to look like the super ho who's working with Tory Lanes and a couple of other people behind her best friend, right, And I'm just confused as to how your best like you're the artist, right, you're the one that that's working with all these different people. How your best friend get access to them in that way? You see her pictures of

to America's Shark Team. Okay, Yeah. Martin is a super dope Nigerian born designer and founder of Zoba Martin, a luxury brand based in Toronto. Her pieces haven't seen at Canadians, you know, music awards and even a few of Drake's music videos. Okay, so um recently, I saw it. I don't know we saw it him, but she had a damn dress made out of toilet tissue on the shade room. Okay, and it was magnificent. Okay, it was beautiful. It was beautiful.

Welcome to we talk back. Soba, hey girl, y'all don't hit me up on Instagram a couple of weeks ago and asked me to watch the clip of her on Dragons. Then she actually reached out to your girl for business advice. Okay, so some of y'all, do you listening to me? I'm not just a crazy motherfucker on we talked back, Okay, but you got some crazy people be smart when okay, mm hmm. Soo, but how did you get into fashion? Okay? So when I was like probably eleven, I saw my

aunt go rest her. So I saw her make her wedding dress. So she was in a living room. She bought white satin fabry and she designed a whole wedding dress. And then you know, you know how you have different antswers in the house, like they're like making fun of her, saying she's cheap. Lad, I'm like, no, she just made her wedding. I making my own wedding dress and yes, yeah, I'm like and then she's like I did all the bees and you know, bam she had a wedding dress.

But I was like a while ago anyway, So when I was in Uni, I always knew like I didn't want to have a corporate job because like the idea of it kind of made me sad, like it just when the reason. So I'm like, okay, I wanted to be into fashion because I mean I just like being creating, like making things in my hand. So right after school,

I went to University of Ottawa, Canada. But after school, I went to Fashion School and my dad and my mom we were very supportive, like normally with Nigerian parents and like don't do anything that My parents were not like that. I come from a bloodline of entrepreneurs, so like, if you want to be an entrepreneur, everyone has your back. So like they paid for any school that wanted to

go to. So I went to Fashion School Toronto and you know, my final project was a twelve line collection and people love the time, Like okay, I actually love doing this as the crowd is receiving it. Well, so I just decided to you know, take the care of

from there, and then I worked at klient Field. Went while I was in fashion school, which is like this, everybody say, yes, you address, everybody knows maybe you know okay yeaah so um yeah, and I was seeing people pay like almost hundred for alternations and went in dress not for the price of the weding dress because when there's probably like five key and then they pay extra for altuations. And I'm like, I'm gonna make this weding dresses for the price of the altuations and see what happens.

And I said, I do, and I'm like, oh my god, I didn't love making what a dresses more So That's how I started my line and I've been doing it. I worked in insurance for three years and I remember I'll take like ten minutes break and I'm just staring into space because I'm so sad, just like being in the space I didn't want to be in. And then they like it's just like very pretendious, everyone trying to like make the manager happy, and it was just not

my style. So I just, you know, go Turkey quicktures full time. And I've been doing that since today night. That's that's so how did you end up in a drunk video. It wasn't referral. Honestly, you're good because can you say I've worked on three drink music videos and it was just true. Like word of mount was like the statist was looking for someone it seems stressed on set.

It was to Wait for You music video, and I'm like I called her back and she's like, yeah, we need used to come like two hours away from Toronto. We're going in the middle of nowhere to shoot and drink music video. I'm like, sure, I'll come, and then I have to beat my friend to contacting from me, like this is where I'm this first lesson just to get something. I don't know. It was legitima you just

like sucking. I'm out. I'm like I'm there. You're like, we're gonna pay you some more for like three years. I'm like, yes, yes, yes, sign me up. I'm like just for the just for the you know. And then I went there was my first time being on set and just speaking all this term like copy move like I'm like, what's happening, Okay. Then I had to create you know, the I don't know if you watched Wait for You music video like the girl like you know, he saves the damn soel and then she goes into

the room. So the course that she was when I actually made that for like three hours, like so much pressure. I want to directors with X. It was such a fun for us. Yeah. He was there like, I'm like, what do you want me to do? He's like, just make something out of this. I'm like, all right, cool, I didn't know what something was. He likes what I mean too. Yeah, And then the one went we married

like twenty something girls. Yeah, also, and that's said, yeah, I tell you all the wedding dresses, like girls came from all over the world just to be in a music video. And then there was a two rog Field Yeah. And then the one we did your key and baby, you're supposed to be excited, this is yeah excited. Yeah, you're supposed to be excited about it doesn't any bit.

You can make a dress out of toilet tissue that looks good is a tanlent and need to be all everybody said period because all I can do with white my ass. That's it helps had to reach it out to me to come be her personal designer at all. I make all these people reach out to me. I'm here. You know, That's how I'm feeling sometimes. I mean, times

is not on set for you know. Yeah, I just started and yeah, and when the shade re pusted the Battom video, I just made like a behind the scenes people were like, oh, we see where all these toilet people went to, you know you like, yeah, it's like it's a toilet paper short and it's a bitch making like boxing the company sending the boxes of toilet paper. I'm like, I need more and he's more just sending more, and I'm like making y'all gotta save that. The drags,

yeah you know that time. I've also makes hair, so I bread it as well. That's why incorporated it into the saw Giant. I saw it was like braided down the back and like, yeah it was nice. That's amazing man. So what was the process for dragging? Because I always wanted to go on Shark thank I got this idea about like it's Christmas time, right, you said, access will be put up a Christmas tree. So what if you had a Christmas tree you can open up like an

umbrella and it's already like fluffed out. I mean, you don't have to put those things on. You have to put each branch on and fluff it. I think I bought a tree where it was it was three sections that you just open up and then you put one on the top and the third one on it and it just it's already put together. Look, I guess I'm a narcissist. I think I'm the first to do everything. I mean, like all these ideas you're giving out, you can't still do it. You can't still have made some o.

You just make it better than that. So the one I had was three pieces. Maybe you can make it where it's no pieces and you fluff out your leaves and you put your decorations on five minute Christmas tree. You ain't buy that, going sure, yeah, I'm not out. So what was your experience on the dragons then? How do you end up there? Yeah? So um Dragons then reached out to me and said, like, we want your dragons then, because like the magazine, it's called blog t oh,

it's like a big blog in Toronto. So they shared my work, talked about sustainable design and all that. So they reached out and the casting director returned to me like we want your dragons then, I'm like, yeah, when is it for three? Like no, in ten days? And like what yeah, You're like you either want it or you don't want it, like you know out, I mean, you can't do it next year, but we don't really we're going to renew. But I said, yes, I took the one I had in the moment, and I just

never written a page. My numbers are there, but like I had to like polish you with my accountant, and yeah, I went into the dance scared, scared as fun. It was very scary, but I did it. I went there and then I had my friend come over. I made her wedding dress. Actually, I made her wedding dress in twenty nineteen. Her winding got cantled three weeks before the pandemic. So you know, imagine paying all all that money and having all this right out party and then like your

wedding doesn't happen. Because so yeah, I'm like, hey, do you want to come wear your dress on dragons there? She's like, yeah, sure, I'm coming. And she could still fit the dress how the whole baby and she could still fit the dress after her wedding, so after nineteen, so she came with me on the show practice my picture for me, and yeah, I spoke to the dragons

or six of them scared. Let's talk about this right, Okay, let out listeners know what you went on the dragons And just in case you don't watch the clip, what was your ask from the from the dragon? So I went and asking for a fourth forty thou dollars for twelve

point five percent of my company. But I know that's exactly why I said it, because I'm like roast me because I know I have to rost from that. But but the thing is that you have to determine the value you're asking for more. Yeah, like if you're asking for more than to like me, asking for a twelve point five meant I valued my company at three hundred or something. That wasn't if anything Dragons then taught me is I'm on to value myself a lot. You know.

After pitching, I pitched all the way with me. I was depressed for like three days. I was on my floor. I was crying because I'm like why did I do that? Like I was just like all the things they told me was just like ringing in my head. I remember I got my period the next day I couldn't work. So I'm just like thinking, if something I haven't seeing what happens to come because that was what they kept on telling me. Then and my friends who came home.

She came to my house. I wasn't asking her question to my house, took me to different bride out stories, into rount and she's like, this is your competition. So like if you don't read someone, that person would do it too, like you know, get yourself. Remember. So I just snapped off of that, but yeah, I know. And then I walked out with five sorry forty Okay, y'all let me break this down right quickly. Okay, So Sooba

went on Dragon's Dead. Her ask was forty dollars for twelve point five percent of a company that she is the number one laborer at. Okay, and so what was the guy who actually accepted? But he wanted forty thousand of your company? This is essentially it's a small business, right, you're big, but it's a small business. One person. How many employees do you have time. So like the main thing I asked was what did you ever have your business evaluated? What your what was your business evaluated at?

Because that that would be the first thing you want to do before asking somebody for money. And really what you needed was a businessman not said that. So the reason why I wanted an investor was not necessarily for

the money. I think I needed more mentorship, like just someone to like helping with the business side, because the critic side is fine, but like because I'm obviously I'm always improving on my critivity and like learning, but the business side is like something that I wasn't really paying attention to as much as I should have. So I needed a mentor. But after the then I realized that although we can find out, but yeah, did you accept the deal? Like did it go through like that somebody

owns twenty in your company? No, nothing is finalized, as we're still in the process like due diligence, like we're checking numbers, like this was all the way at me and you know since from dancing now nothing has been finalized. Don't do it, said, tell me why I was listening to you. I just told you and I told you when you message me, you are worth way than forty dollars. And then for somebody you have of a company where they may not be doing much, what you need is

you need a mentor. Like you said, there's funny people out here that actually mentor you for free, you know, as opposed to I did you know going on one of these names. So you're only gonna get forty dollars and they're gonna have company, but the life of your company for how long? Like I said, nothing has been finalized, Like we haven't even got into that part yet. They're

still in like you in the number of stage. So dragons don't will tell you, like they're not responsible for what you do after the after the you don't care what you do after Like that's on you. Right, So anything I said, like whatever was I agree on it's not necessary. Okay, So you can renegotiated, So you can also pull out and want you like you can just not with anything, right yeah, okay, yeah, yeah, right now

I still owned my company in a real way. I have already spoken to some people I know, like that I that I know have business relationships at banks. can't do anybody can learn how to do. And then with designing aspect of them like other parts of the business. I can publish myself in those ways, you know, while someone is sewing and I'm learning.
