back this week. We got Darryl Patterson. He's an international fitness trainer and nutrition specialists. UM, the real DP exactly, and he's been out here changing lives one pound at a time. Child, we mean, how are we fat? I'm skinny fat, I'm skinny fat. I'm like black girl skinny. Song's gonna when nobody talks about definitely help you. Sorry, tell us about out what you offer, what you do as a fitness trainer, because your program seems to be like special So it's uh, it's it's probably one of
the biggest online transformations programs. UM. We've trained or transformed one point five million bodies and it comes with an app. UM. It's a customized It gives you a customized mail plans, so you kind of you tell me what you want to eat. You're tell me what type of meal plan you want. UM. It gives you options of different type of workouts. So we we meet you where you are. So if you want to go to the gym, we
have gym workouts. If you've got dumbeills at home and one of utilize those, We've got dumbbell workouts, you've got body weight workouts. We've got uh twork programs on there. We've got step of over programs on there. That's what I mean. It's it's it's a it's a one stop shop. And my goal was to remove excuses on why people can't get healthy. You know I'm saying, so once I gave them the option to have their own meal plan
and on there there. But so you know, usually when people get a meal plan, nine times out of team, trainers give a meal plan and they give that same meal plan to everybody, you know, So you know it's hard to do a lot of people's little meal plans. Exactly. So with this meal plan, because it's automated, um everything the way I would personally build your meal plans, how it would kick out according to how you answer our questionnaire.
So if you want a pesteytarian diet, you want a vegan diet, and you want a vegetarian diet, whatever type of meal plan you want is going to generate that. And I'm gonna give you the best case scenario the first time. And if you don't like some of the foods on there, then you can regenerate that item. So if you don't like chicken, you can regenerate that item and it may give you steak or it may give you turkey or may give you uh some type of lean beef so you can build your own meal plan.
The best thing out of the whole equation. It tells you how many calories you're supposed to take a day, how much protein you're you're supposed to take in the day, how much fat cards, um. Everything you need to know. And every time you click that you aided, your graph starts showing you how closer you are to your goal. Oh that's sounds good, I know. Right. So it's like, you know, I was about to sign up for that. No, no, no, I'm new. Is it new? You know I like black people?
So is it simulates to that? You know what I'm talking about. It's like, actually got to do with your thought process? Like, yeah, that's behavioral I guess right. So what what you get with this program? So I have over seven trainers on the program, and we do accountability calls twice a week, um usually And I'm gonna speak
real facts. Usually, when you guys get programs, you sign up for training, you're gonna see your trainer for one hour out the week whatever many times you go see them or that program, you're gonna get the program, and that's it, Like you're never gonna hear from that trainer. You're never gonna have no contact with that trainer. If you stop, they ain't gonna know. You know what I'm saying, Like there's no sense. Uh yeah, they ain't gonna care.
So with this program, we do two accountability calls a week. You know if you so, I always they're they're good. They're good calls, you know what I'm saying. Like, the reason we do these calls, so many people have kept growing from those calls because we're real people. It was no different than anybody else. We just happened to do this for a living. And I tell people, I'm no
different than anybody else. I don't like vegetables, I don't like getting up in the morning, I don't like working out, but I like what it does for me, you know what I'm saying. And my job is I always tell people my job is not to change your body, you know what I'm saying, Like that's gonna happen regardless if you work with me. My job is to change your mental So if I can start getting you to think differently,
then I'm doing my job. And that's the hardest part with any type of training or getting somebody to adjust two behaviors that they've had for Friday, whole life, the entire life. Right, So do people maintain, Like what's the maintenance after the program? Do you see a lot of people come back? Do a lot of people fall off the bandwagon? You're gonna have a little a mixture of boat, you know. And I have two different options, Like I said, I have two different apps. One is the Heat Challenge app.
The other one is Heat on Demand. Heat on Demand is a subscription base app all my challenges going there, and I drive multiple different programs in there. So right now I have over a hundred programs on that app that you can do anywhere from twelve minute ad workouts to a four months four week programs or eight program booty programs like you name it. It's on that at afrobeat classes, yoga classes work like. It's a bunch of
stuff on there um that people can do. So I always tell them, if you're not going to sign up for that next challenge, go ahead and get the apps so you never get bored with you know, I'm saying your fitness, You've got so many different things you can do you can do different types of programs, different training programs.
You've got different trainers that you're working with. UM, But I always recommend people to stay on the challenge for the sake of I'm constantly educating these people, Like if there's no way I can educate you in four weeks to the mass of what you personally probably need for your body. So you learn so much through this program, UM, And I pride myself on educating these people. You know, it's not do this workout, eat this food and you know,
lose weight. They know why they're eating the food. They know what workouts are doing. Like you leave my program, you could damn there be a trainer. And it's funny because I literally just took one of the clients that's done this program for since two thousand nineteen and they're now a coach on my program. Okay, so you doing any that's good, But sometimes niggas lose fifteen pounds and then the trainer, you know what I'm saying, Like now they think when we ain't doing that, Like, you gotta
prove yourself with me, you know what I'm saying. You gotta prove yourself and to have done the program, from two thousand, nineteen to two thousand literally the end of this year last year, um, and stay with it. And you know it's her main thing was she's afraid. She was so she was afraid to leave the program because she didn't want her body to go in the opposite direction. And I respect that, you know what I'm saying that
I said, that's that's a very transparent statement. And I can respect that because a lot of people think once they lose that weight that they got it, you know, and then they start celebrating a little bit and they and then I'd be like, have five, give me some rials, bitch, some cookies, bitch, I'm fine, And then I let back up and I'll be fine back And that's how it happens.
And that's the funny thing. Like I explained that to people, I say, look, you're gonna you're gonna start getting comfortable. You're gonna start feeling like you made it. This race gonna start coming off, and you're gonna forget that all this work that you was doing. You gotta keep that up in the sense, you know what I'm saying. You might not have to do it to the max, but you still have to maintain it, you know. And that's why I try to, you know, keep people on the program.
I give away money, you know what I'm saying. I give away twelve dollars every month to the top five people with the best transformation. So I tell them it ain't about the money, y'all. Like I want you all to have a goal and ride that bitch out and that don't lose weight. Get your fat ass on this program. He's gonna give you money, bitch. Imagine that. Like if your waist comes in more and you're already a curvy woman, your hips are gonna look even bigger, or your butt's gonna look even bigger because your aesthetics. You know what I'm saying. You're any woman's race that comes in and they naturally have hips or naturally have a But even though your butt may get a smaller, it's going to look way better because your waist is way small. Yeah, so you can't
spot train. Um, but I explained to people when you start working out, when you start, you know, losing weight, you're gonna start seeing where that weight comes from and where that weight goes. So just like you can't control where it goes, you can't control where it leaves either. But once you start losing weight, you can start saying, Okay, I want to work on this area a little bit more. And that's what you do. You know what I'm saying,
Like I have some of the transformations. If y'all seeing y'all be like getting on your page, it is crazy. So some of them it is gonna be sneaking and getting the vbls. They ain't got no time ain't That's the thing. They ain't got no time if they got COVID and they fell off. So you know what I'm saying, Like, master this online training thing. I've been doing this for eight years. You know what I'm saying, Like you have
to you have to pose a certain way. You don't get to pose until the day before the challenge starts, you know what I'm saying. So it's I've mastered it, and then I know what you're doing based off of what we give. You know what I'm saying, Like I live. I had a conversation with my girls a day and I'm like, if y'all don't look at certain way in fourteen days, I know what you're doing. I know what you've been doing. I know what you haven't been doing. I know what you've been doing for ten days. You
know what I'm saying. And you can't sneak that one past me. You know what I'm saying, Like I'll listened to what if they're a little bit of adapax in there for me in there? Like how do you feel about supplements and ship like that? Honestly, so I actually have a stuff in the company, So um supplements are there to supplement certain things. You know what I'm saying. Should I eat before? Normally when I work out I throw up at some point? So should I eat before
I work out? Or should I know? The common practice would be to eat before you work out, because what you're trying to do is build muscle, and the only way to build that muscle is defeated. You know what I'm saying. So think of your body as a car. You know, if you want, if you want to go long distance, then you have to put some gas in it, you know. And if you're not putting gas in it,
you're gonna keep working out, You're gonna run empty. So you always want to feed your body um fuel, protein, um cars depending on what you're trying to do so your body can respond um. The only time you necessarily don't have to eat is if you're gonna do some type of faster cardio. And also that's kind of how the structure. I'd like to do that. I do fast cardio. Yeah, so they do faster cardio, then they have their strength
training whenever they have time for it. So for all of us who don't know what that is, what is a fast cardio? Because it sounds like some ship that I have a sting. So fast cardio is a cardio done in the fastest state. Okay, so think about this. Why do they call your first day breakfast? Breaking your fast? Ye can't eat first thing in the Morning's I always
work out fast? Yeah? You just have you what you're doing is you're giving your body a chance to burn off everything from the previous night before, and you're already starting in the negative now, so now anything that you're eating is going to the positive. So would that be better than fueling the car first for cardio sake? So? Um, when you're trying to So there's a difference between cardio
and shrimp training, you know what I'm saying. One is going to build your endurance, the other is going to build your muscle. You know what I'm saying. So anytime you're picking up weights and doing things of that nature, you want to make sure that you're feeding your body prior to working out and after. But if you're doing cardio in the morning, you don't necessarily need it because you're you're burning off any extra calories and if your
heart rate stays consistent pace, you're burning fat. At that point, I just feel like if I don't eat first when I come home, I'll raving this. I'm in a refrigerator, Like, give me that food right now, I'm eating all this ship like that's how I feel right to which you should, because your your metabolism is going now, like you're hungry at that point, your body's yearning for some food. It's just are you feeding with the right stuff right, You're about to eat all the calories you just burn, and
that's the part. Look, so you should said you should you do cardio before or after any strength training because I usually do the cardio first. I do like forty five minutes of the cardio, and then I'll go do like some calisthetics and weight. But so people online say work I mean cardio last, cardio last. I don't be having to do cardio last. That's the thing. You want to save your energy for your workout because after your work out, your heart your heart rates are already up.
Once you're working out, your heart rates already up, your UM, you're already in the fat burning zone you should be. So the audio is just going to assist that that you're just gonna keep that going after you get done. So it's best to do your cardio after because you're gonna need that energy for your workout. You need any spind uh spin trainers. I'm a certified spin instructor. Yeah, however, I'm listening. This brand is fat Girl Spend. You can have a fat Girl spin class. When I tell you
all how quick this brand is going is growing. Um I'm anything that people do to specialize in and has to do with health and fitness. I'm interested. same fitness lifestyle. Um, But I am concerned with them being health cautious, you know what I'm saying. So she does what she does. She she's actually part of my team. She does everything. Um. She she's big on mentor and emotional health. So she connects with these ladies on a whole another level that I personally couldn't ever do. Um and talking on topics that are getting them through this challenge. You know what I'm saying, because most I'm not gonna
say most women. There's a lot of women who coming to this program overweight because of depression, overweight because of the relationships that they're in. Yeah. So she touches on a lot of that stuff and speaks life into these women. They keep going and it's amazing thing to watch it because I don't talk to the women on that level. I don't connect with them on that level. You know. I'm more on the you know, if this is what you want to get, this is what you need to do.
She's more on the level of, I know what you're going through, let me talk you through this, so we don't you know what I'm saying, so we don't backtrack, and you don't you know, come to this place again. Yep, because I prefer female trainer just because I might end up sucking my male trainer. Like a lot of times they'd be fine and they just be like doing like that. Yeah, and they'd be trying to funk too, you know. So I prefer a female trainer, so you ain't sucking them too,
So not no more. Sometimes not no more, I'm sing. Sometimes it's just it fox with the working relationship. After that, you know, I never get my fitness gold together. I don't see what the big deal was though, money Dad know that. That's why I should be able to say no, you can't, Yeah, I should be.
I don't like that either. I don't think it matters, like I tell people all the time, like I don't care how much you weigh, and even if I'm looking at you, I can't tell how much you way. I know what you look like. I don't look tired. I don't know if you look out of shape, and I know if you look fit now gonna be that's gonna be what it is. As you can see see my
clavicle a little bit. I'm good, nig like. I also don't like like if I'm on the phone and I'm at the drive through, I put my ship on mute because I don't like people hearing me order my food, like my your business. Let me get them and a large fry a large drink supersize that ship, yoh man. But man, like we ain't trying to be fat forever. I do want to be able to live a more healthy lifestyle, Like I'll get to going and then like like we said, like you soon just started looking good.
You just summertime come, trips come, and you just stop drinking, all right. Question, So do you feel like you should just take like some turns, like no alcohol for the rest of your life, you know, And that's not realistic for me because I'm a social drinker. So if you're going to have a drink while you're diet, and what would you suggest people drink? Like, what's the best thing to have? You know? In moderation, this is this is
the conversation that I have. You have to base your goals off of what you want to do, you know what I'm saying, Like, there's a difference between me having a drink occasionally and somebody trying to lose thirty pounds asking can they have a drink every weekend? You know you're saying. I'm saying, so you really have to figure out what it is that you're trying to do. If
you're trying to get to a certain point. Let's get to that point and then understand your body and if you want to drink on the weekends, drink on the weekends, but understand what comes after that and what you have to do to maintain that. Look, you know what I'm saying, But if you're drinking every weekend, you're still trying to lose weight. We're just going in a cycle that's never going to change, you know what I'm saying. So at some point we have to figure out what means more,
what's more priority, you know what I'm saying. So that's like, that's why I've actually condensed my program down the thirty days, um, because if you can give me thirty days and see what your body does, then at that point you now understand what it takes to lose five pounds, you know, and everybody's bodies respond differently. And at the same time, you know what you did in that thirty days. Did
you drinking that thirty days? If you drunk something in that thirty days and you only lost five pounds, well that's what's gonna happen. If you didn't drink and you lost twenty, well, my calories, I don't drink that often. But I do like to eat my calories. And see, I think that what we do. And because the meal plan is so simple, like people fall in love with and they're like, oh, this is regular food, I'm like, yeah, it's regular food. I'm just giving you, guys, healthier choices.
And I'm telling you how much of that healthier choice to eat. You know what I'm saying, you can. I didn't say you can't eat a burger. I might have just said, hey, instead of using the bun either, lettuce wrap, you know, instead of doing French fries, dude, sweet potato fries. You know, it's all about understanding nutrition and what's the healthier decision, because you all we always have a healthier decision, you know what I'm saying, And it's which one? Which
one do you want to pick? You know, do you want to make the bad decisions or do you want to make that more healthier decision and not have to deal with the outcome and the side effects of it. Right, I was really hoping you was gonna tell me a diet liquor. I really procco. You could do prosecco and cattle one are your options? You can do kettle one. What about Tito's Prosecco's vegan. So it's not necessarily the liquor. And sometimes you just have to see what's in that liquor,
you know what I'm saying. So if you're drinking liquor and you're adding a bunch of juice to it, then you're adding a bunch of calories and a bunch of sugars. That's usually where people go that they go wrong. You already sugar. Yeah, so if it doesn't have any sugars that have any cards in it, you can drink that, you know what I'm saying. But most vodkas you can drink um. But usually if it's like a Hennessy or something like that, like you just drinking calories and sugar.
At this point, you gotta change up what it is that you're drinking. So and these again, these are the things that I start teaching people and they start, yeah, they start paying attention. They're like, damn, Like I can still lose weight and still have fun. Like it ain't supposed to be. It's not supposed to be stressful or unfun. Like if it was unfun, you know what I'm saying, Like that's why people do so good on the program,
and they tell so many people because they learned. They're like, no, we can still eat, you know, and we can still eat regular food. It's not the same bullshit that my other trainer gave me, Like, no, I'm gonna teach you all the white ready to do it. And if you're drinking hennessy, you're probably a thug and he's probably fighting in the street, so you need to be so you need to be in shape. Stop drinking it. Look, you ain't no husband's ever pulled up on you before, Nah,
I ain't. I The most I get is their husbands don't want them to work with me for they rather have to have them work with a female. And that's just an insecurity thing like I got. I don't have too many clients at this point. I'm not really in the gym training, um, but that when I was, I had too many clients to be worrying about your wife. You know what I'm saying, Like I see these women all day, you know, I'm saying, like I'm I'm trying to help her get to wish you tell him man
that he probably like the one my my woman. Ain't you making her I've never had that conversation. I just understand. I'm like, I get it, I get it, you know what I'm saying, I get it. I know I'm cute. Look, they probably see him and be like, man, Nick, a cute man stretching my bit out of gym. That's the problem. They think you fine, that's the problem. They think you fine. I get it. Though, I get that. They'd be like
so they like, not that nigg you gotta fine? Said yeah, So what do you think is the most effective training style? Because I've had trainers yelled at me and be like you can't do it, tell me I can't do it, And sometimes I'll be motivated like, bit, yes I can. Or sometimes I'm like you're right, fuck you and I don't want to do it anymore. Then I've had trainers that will hold my hand the whole way, you know,
and then I don't respect them either. So so for me, it's figuring out what's going to get them to move, you know what I'm saying. Like I trained every person differently, you know what I'm saying, And I always put the ball back in their court. You know what I'm saying, It's always gonna be in your court. I'm just here to help you along the way, you know what I'm saying. So if it's that you need help and assistance, of course I'm helping them. Gonna say, I'm not gonna hold
your hand though, you know what, saying. You have to cross this finish line by yourself. I'll be over here reaching for you to come. But you wanted to cross this finish line by yourself. So it just depends. Each person is going to be different. You might have somebody that's motivated by you know, you're pushing them. You might have somebody that's motivated or or who's very sensitive on you know, I'm saying some of some things that you say to them. I've dealt with every type of demeanor
and personality. It's just finding Like I said, my job is to find out how can I get it? Telling me what to dude, that's my problem. I don't mind. It's just all about how you do it. Yeah. I had a trainer that used to be like one tubby Tubby too. I ain't gonna do what did you just call me fat? Whatever? I might talk ship, but I ain't gonna I mean, one time I told my I told my eggs. I wanted to do cardio first. He was like, I'm not fat, he said, I'm not fat.
I'm not about doing a cardio like what. No, he said, I don't need to do cardio. I'm not fat, That's what he said. I'm telling you, I want to do cardio first. Right, you say I don't want to do cardio. I'm not fat? The funks? Are you calling me fat? Right? Did I take that wrong? You were fat? He said, No, you go do it. You might as well say take your fat as you listen to the nigga, I wasn't tripping, not tripping that stop going to the gym with that nigga.
And he would always be if you would have stick with me, if you would have stuck with our routine, you would be here by now. You beat it. Nah, nigga, I can't work out with you. I don't like your training styles. So yeah, I don't like that. Don't call me Toby while I'm doing You can't do that again. You gotta you gotta know what you gotta know your people again. Job is to push you know. And it's funny. So today I had to you know, I do live classes.
I gotta a an ask challenge going on right now, fortune day having to start a Monday, and it's a live class. So I started the class and I asked him. I said, you know, I want you guys to shout out a word that you get from what I'm about to say. And it was a vigorous attempt um or what was the other part of it, as a vigorous attempt or um powerful purpose or something like that anywhere the word that it was describing its effort. You know what I'm saying. I told them, I said, I don't
care if you can't keep up with me. I don't care if you can't do all the reps. I don't care if, um, you know, you feel like you can't do this at some point um or you're not keeping up with everybody. What I do care about is the effort that you're putting out. You know what I'm saying. I expect you to give me effort. You know what I'm saying, Like, I don't expect for you to give
me twenty reps when this is your first day. I don't expect for you to keep up with the person next to them, you know, if this is your first day. But I do expect for you to try, you know what I'm saying, Like, that's what I expein. Like for me, it's all about pouring into these people, you know what I'm saying, Pouring into these people because they needed, you
know what I'm saying, especially especially the women. You know what I'm saying, women tend to I'm not saying all women, but women tend to do for everybody else and put themselves like, you know what I'm saying. And yeah, and then we got we got men like ks out here saying that nobody want to overweight Black women. A lot of Black women don't have time for themselves, you know what I'm saying. They got a fine time for the children.
They work for somebody else, and he worked for you, then he cooked the clean and still find a way to do them dick ups at night like it's rough. And really that's I always start my my, my my classes motivating them, and I always start in them, pouring intial them. And I tell him, man like, if you can't, if your cup is empty, then how are you going to help somebody else? You know what I'm saying, Like this, this,
this particularly this one hour, this is for you. You deserve that you earn that, Like I need you all to give me y'all, you know what I'm saying, And don't feel bad about taking time for you, you know what I'm saying, because if you ain't gonna do it, who the hell else gonna do it? It was crazy because the school that she went to, I they offered me a scholarship at that time. So I'm like, you know what, I'm gonna go over here. I get scholarship being my girlfriend. Cool. I get to the school, They're like, oh you, oh girl's girlfriend. I'm like, yeah, you know what I'm saying, Like what the going on? Come to find out she was sucking one of the loose on the basketball team. So I've been in some positions that you know, I've been played, and you know
I had to deal with that. So you went to the school to be with your girl, and she was the nigga that could cross you up. And I had to work for the pusson. I had to work for the push. You got ahead and puts about two weeks. So who you've been sucking at your school? That's why we can't just live and be together. Like you sucked somebody at your school. I sucked him at my school now because you guys pussy too. After that, I was in college. After that. Before that, we was engaged like
I was. I wasn't love. I was loved like and that that broke my heart. Like from that point on, I kind of dealt with women in a different way, you know what I'm saying, Like I never, honestly, I probably never really fully just gave all of my my love because that should hurt my feelings. I broke my day hard. Did you did you get some therapy for it? I mean, you need to talk to somebody. I just turned I turned into a nigger in college. And you know,

So it just baries.
Every Every challenge is going to be different depending on you know, who turned in there before and after, but yeah, who put it in the most efforts. So I might have a bunch of big girls, I might have a bunch of guys. I've had it to where it's been guy dominant. I've had it to where it's been women dominant. It's if it just depends on who signs up and who commits, and that's that's the one that you get the money, right, Yeah, I'm trying to get that money.
