Episode description

Today’s dose of “Vitamin D” is dedicated to true love. No… I’m not talking about the fairytale kind of true love. I mean genuine care and concern for someone to be loved in the most authentic way possible. have you heard the saying, “You don’t love me, you love the idea of me”?

Do these words resonate with you? Shoot, some of us don’t realize that this is how we treat those we get in relationships with. In the hit song “Mango” by Kamauu featuring Adeline, he belts, “I don't want nothin’ but you getting what you need even if it ain't from me.” Did you catch it? When you truly love someone or someone truly loves you, they will always want the best for you despite if it means they lose you in the process. Because “giving it up is not giving up.” It’s creating space for it to be free.

So many of us are not taught growing up what it looks like to authentically love someone. we are taught to go after a certain type of outward appearance or the idea of someone when it comes to a relationship. We must unlearn to learn “what love is... never selfish... and of service... on purpose.”

This isn't easy. I will acknowledge that, but you have to start small. Learn to be the person who creates a space for a relationship where the other person knows that it's safe to be vulnerable in. You can’t control how other people treat you, but you can set the standard for yourself. Be the difference. Be the love you wish you had and the love you so desire.

That’s it for your dose of “Vitamin D” be sure to follow me on all social media @dawndaispeaks and until next time, always remember, "YOU are your greatest asset!"
