Episode description

Today’s dose of “Vitamin D” is dedicated to doing the inner work. The kind of work that takes time, takes courage and requires self love. It’s the kind of work that may involve you falling down to your knees, shedding a few tears and shutting out the noise from the rest of the world. As humans, we are so quick to want to ‘change’ in order to meet someone else’s standards, but we’re unsure of what we stand for ourselves. Damn what other people have to say and what other people believe! What do you believe? Who do you say you are? What do you stand for?

In Beyoncé’s hit song, “Pretty Hurts,” she gets to the heart of the matter. We all desire to be happy, and sometimes it’s by any means necessary. Whether it’s a ‘nip/tuck’ or popping a pill, we’re constantly trying to escape reality in hopes of creating some ‘perfect’ illusion. Constantly trying to “shine the light on whatever’s worse. Tryna fix, but you can’t see. It’s the soul that needs the surgery.” Failing to realize there “ain’t no doctor or therapeutic that can take the pain away. The pain’s inside.” So it’s time to do the work!

The first step is to declare the love that you have for yourself. If you need to cry, you cry. If you need to scream, you scream. Take a pen and write it down if you have to. If you have to exclude yourself from certain people and certain situations, you do that. That’s what I call "putting in the work!"

So the next time someone asks you if you’re happy with yourself, let the answer be, "yes!" You are be-YOU-tiful!
