Episode description

Welcome to Vitamae. The topic for today is "Being a Cable Technician".

This is how I began my career in the technical field.  It is one of my favorite jobs and recommend that others gain experiencing working as a cable technician, especially if they are working towards a network engineer background.

Takeaways:

  • It is a dirty job. You are exposed to the outside elements of weather changes, a variety of homes made of different shapes and sizes, dealing with animals, and more.
  • It takes perseverance to learn the very challenging process of troubleshooting the unknown.  Too many expect that we can see through the walls when in essence we make an educated guess of where the cable routes, the splitters, junctions that we go through, how to navigate in attics, basements, or behind different obstacles to service the cable broadband and telephony service calls and installations.
  • You will meet many people of different backgrounds.
  • It is a great learning experience by understanding how to manage your own jobs independently.
  • I learned to appreciate and gain insights on how to run cables in the homes and how cable broadband and telephony services are installed.
