We forget when our focus is always on the big thing and always on the spectacular thing in missing where he is in the small. We miss learning to trust him.
Well, hello again and welcome to the Trim the Wick podcast. I'm Dan.
And I'm Becky.
And we are back with you again with another amazing, incredible, unbelievably huge podcast this week.
Wow, that's a lot of build up. We going to live up to that hype?
Maybe? I just kind of. With the topic that we were talking about, I just kind of felt like that was the intro that we needed was this. It's going to be huge.
or it's going to be a tabloid headline.
One of those kind of. You never know what we're going to talk about. the biggest story and all of the news and Twitter world and X and everything else is we've got UFOs and drones all over the place just causing havoc. And it's, the spies among us that are just looking down and causing havoc.
It's wild. It's kind of everywhere. There's reports out of New Jersey and out of California, which, I mean, UFOs been all over California for years, but.
Yeah, well, they're kind of crazy out there.
Sorry, listeners in California, we still love you. But. Well, and I mean, like, we can talk. We have Florida, man. But yeah, they're kind of popping up everywhere and people are videotaping them and, well, they're digitally recording them now. people are filming them.
and I think it is kind of funny.
And I know governments had to make statements.
Yep. And I know you're tuning into the Trim Theic podcast. You're like, wait a second, this is not what Dana and Becky usually talk about.
This is not leadership, nor biblical advice. What is this?
We're talking about UFOs and we're talking about drones, but no, it is kind of funny how these big events and big things like this, it just kind of captures the news, and the news cycle and everything.
Yeah. And it runs away with people's imaginations. You're hearing you. I do. I run down rabbit holes from time to time, and people are coming up with all kinds of wild speculations about what we're seeing in the sky. and there's a lot of unsettled undercurrent that you're hearing in a lot of it. is it aliens coming to get us? Is it our government lying to us about things and turning things against us? Is it foreign governments that are our enemies?
Is it people blowing everything out of proportion and they don't know what an airplane looks like at night.
You know, it was what, I was watching, one of the videos that they were going. And I'm like going, that's a helicopter. That's a life flight. Like we see those every other night flying over our house. That's basically a life flight.
but there is, but there's this undercurrent of really unsettled tension that's running through all of these reports of what's happening. And because. Because it's happening on such a broad geographical scale.
Right.
It's happening across our nation and there's this fear that's starting to really rise to the top.
You know, here's the thing is, living through Covid and that whole craziness and stuff and how the fear was stirred up, it just seems like now those little trigger things, anytime it's something bigger than life or anyime, it's something really unexplainable or whatever, it's all about the theories of this and the undercurrents and fear. And we disprove every. You. We don't trust anything.
And yeah, everybody's lying and we can't even trust what we see with our own eyes anymore because of AI And. Yeah, yeah.
And so it's one of the things that we were kind of talking about. You and I were talking about this and talking about the whole thing of these big things and how do we always have to have a big thing to trust or to believe or to whatever. And we were talking about this with the drones and then we were talking about a connection between, you know, how the shepherds and the Christmas story saw the angels. And you know, it's just this. It's always these bigger than life things that seem to motivate
us. And believe it or not, it's really the small things that are the things that are the actual motivators to us. and those that should be are in our everyday and our day to day and seeing those small miracles, seeing those small things in our life, those are the things that we gloss over, we look past, but those are the things that actually have the most impact in our life. It's not the big story of the drones.
Yeah. And the big story of the drones that's happening here. Yeah. And the big story of the drones or whatever that week's big story is, and the emotional agitation that comes along with that, it distracts you from your own life.
Right.
It distracts you from where God's going, hey, I'm right here and I'm doing this thing in your personal life right now. Why are you worried about government conspiracies? And why are you worried about aliens from outer space? Why are you worried about potential? Whatever your theory of the cause of the big thing is, why are you spending so much time, energy and focus on that when it really. You have zero control over any of that anyway.
Right?
Look to where you're actually living and see where I am. Like you said, I'm working those small miracles in your life and you don't.
Even see it and you look past it. One of the things that's great, if you've never taken a nature walk with a small child, oh my gosh, it's the best, you know, take a walk with a small child. And we had the privilege of doing that with some friends of ours with their little ones recently. And they notice every insect. Every little thing off the side of the road. Every little thing in the tree, every. And you're like, oh, guys, look at this big thing
over here. And they're like looking down at this small little insect. And then when you look at the insect you're like, wow, that's really cool too, you know. And you miss those things because we're always looking for the big.
Yeah. And we expect God to work that way. You know, we expect God to do the headline news stuff. He does do that.
Yes.
But it's not the only thing he does. No, I mean, the headline news stuff is the stuff that's on a global scale. The headline news stuff is the stuff that's on a national scale. But he's working every single day in the minutiae of our own lives.
Right.
We forget when our focus is always on the big thing and always on the spectacular thing. In missing where he is in the small, we miss learning to trust him. in the big stuff. The reason that all this fear and unsettlement crops up when we have crazy unexplained things in the sky is because we don't know that God's already got us in our day to day life.
There's the underlying thing is that there's that trust, that basic trust in who God is in the basic things of life. That when something big, unexplained, it throws us, it knocks us off our game, it gets our sight diverted.
Uh-huh.
And you wonder, is it the wind, is it the storm? Or is it actually the small voice that we should be paying attention to?
Yeah. So you're referencing when God showed up to. I can never. Is it Elijah? It was Elijah that was in the cave. And, you know, he was in a bad wayeah. He had hidden himself away. And he was much like we're talking about. He was looking at the headline news of his day. And the headline news of his day was the prophets are being beheaded and the queen is after you, and she ain't happy. And, you know, you're all alone.
Nobody's taking care of you. Nothing's happening good in the world, and there's all this calamity all around you. And he was holed up in a cave, and the tempest came past, and the whirlwind came past and the thunder and the lightning. And God wasn't in all that. He was in the small voice of the everyday, that quiet whisper. And, you know, I do. I think we miss an opportunity when we don't slow ourselves down enough and make sure that our focus is on okay, Lord, where are you with me right now.
The always looking for the big. You do miss the. Every day where God carries you, every day where God works with you, every day where God teaches you. You know, I think of, one of the guys I love, Francis Chan. He does a great illustration, by just talking about breathing and what it takes from your brain sending the electrical signal to the oxygen and the amount of carbon dioxide to oxygen level and everything. And how all of this has to work in orchestration. It's
all orchestrated. It's all a beautiful thing just so you can take a single breath.
And how many of those do you take a day and not even notice?
Exactly. So we do need to. Especially right now. We are looking at a time where it seems like everything is pushed to the max. Everything has got to be bigger and better. And if you do something and it doesn't get 100,000 likes or all these follow what you're doing is junk or all these things.
Everything's emotionally volatile.
S just to the max. And I wonder if we've lost the idea of that trust in God with the small things and also realizing what he's doing in the small things. And we've talked about this just recently with everything that we're doing right now. And we're, in a situation where we're relying a lot on God to provide the small things.
Yeah. And not that we haven't in the past, but there's a stepping up of that level of trust. He has called us to continue to say no to a normal 9 to 5 paycheck for you. And that requires a whole lot of trust because, you know, we have said for most of our adult lives that God is our source, that God is our provider. And we have taught that and we have believed that, but he's asking us to trust him with that on a whole new level than we've ever had to before.
Yeah.
And it's been an interesting run. You know, we have leaned on him not just for, you know, we've trusted him in the past, but there's always been that cushion of. But if it gets too scary, you can go get a job.
Right.
If it gets too scary, or if it gets to where, you know, we're defaulting on our responsibilities, you can always go, just get a job. And he has said, absolutely not this time. And, man, explaining that to other people, they just look at you like you nuts.
Right? Well. And I just had, an incredible conversation with a gentleman, just the other day. And he was telling to a group of men, he was telling the story of he's a multimillionaire, and he was telling the story on how he built businesses, and then the business failed, and then built another business made to millions. The business failed. And then he always, he would say that, at the end of the day, I could always go back to work. I could always just become a CEO
of a company. I could always fall back on my abilities.
I can fix this in my own strength and power. Yeah.
And what he did is he actually did that and took over as a CEO of a company. And within a year, the company went bankrupt. Not his company, but the company. He was hired.
That doesn't look great on a resume.
No. So he left that company because the company dissolved, got hired by another company, and that company, within a year, went bankrupt as well.
Yikes.
And he was at a point of desperation where he was like, okay, I've now had businesses that have failed. I've now had businesses that have had success. My catch all was that I could just go get a job. My last two jobs literally have failed. So now I can't get another job.
Yeah. Job prospects are drying up on that.
Yeah. It's like, I'm going to hire a CEO that has tanked two companies.
Notnn happenah.
And he said, he joked, he talked it. He was in a fetal position, and he was just crying out the guy and saying, what do I do? What do I do? And over and over again it was, you need to trust me 100%. You need to trust me not with your ability, not with what you can fall back on, but you need to trust me completely. And he said it was one of the hardest things he did is that he turned his hand from being face up, which would be to hold something.
To turning it face down to where he's letting go of everything he held onto. And he was talking about just how important it was for him just in the last couple years, that complete letting go and trust in God. Now he's at a company, multi million dollar company, went from 12 employees to I think he said it's over 700 employees now. And we got to get to that point where we just trust God
completely, 100%. It doesn't matter if there's drones and whatever flying in New York or New Jersey or whatever. The m huge miracle is that we see we need to trust God with the day to day in everything that.
We'Re doing because there will be a thousand one little tiny miracles every day. Every single day, however many times you draw breath that day.
That's right.
That's gonna be a little miracle. We have a personal testimony. I'm notnna share it here, but we have a great testimony just recently in our own personal lives of where God has shown up and really caused us to take notice of one of those small miracles that has happened. And I'm not going to share it here because I've already written it and it's going to be coming out in the blog. In fact, it's in this week's blog, so good look for the title Is a miracle is a miracle no matter how
small. Love me some Dr. Seuss.
There you go.
But I would be willing to bet that there are testimonies in your life if you get your eyes off of the big things, if you get your eyes off of the fallback positions, if you really stop and take a look. I would be willing to bet that there are places where God is work working miracles in your life every single day. You know, just like the gentleman's testimony that you shared. More and more I think you're going to be hearing believers sharing that testimony of God calling
us to deeper and deeper trust. or he's calling us to let go of the stuff that we thought we needed to trust in. We thought our security was in solid governments. We thought our security was in strong military forces. We thought our security was in, you know, clear skies with no drones. he's our only security and he proves it in the tiniest of ways.
Yeah. So how do we do this. How do we take that step where we're no longer looking at the world around us in a scared. Looking for the big thing, looking for the. But we're now like that child, looking for the small miracles, looking for those little trust things that are going to help us. And I might be answering my, you know, question by asking the question. It is that taking
time. It is that looking for the small things, being grateful for the moments that you get to have, being able to just take it all in. You know, sometimes you just got to breathe and just take it all in, take in the moment, and be able to appreciate what God is actually doing in your life.
Y. It's that deliberate, intentional setting your mind on the things above. Right. Stopping. And instead of looking all around, stop and go, okay, where are you, God? Show me what you're doing, because I know you're doing something. He always is.
Yes.
He's always acting on our behalf. He's always speaking to us. We just get real distracted.
Yeah. So just like 2,000 years ago, when that little miracle was sent for the world, not too many people thought it was a big deal, that it was a baby born. But it was the miracle that changed the world. And just like that, in our lives, God does those little things, those little miracles that changes our world. We want to encourage you with that, to just focus on those little things to make sure you're taking the time to see the little things that God is doing in your life.
Absolutely. And run over there and check that blog out, and you'll learn about our little miracle. It's, matthew257.com or trimthewwic.com because we now have that, that domain name as well. It'll take you right to the same place.
So there's another little miracle there, too.
Yes, it is.
So you can go to trimthewwick.com or matthew257.com yeah, we'd love to have you check out the website. There's all kinds of stuff there for you to encourage you. And, Becky has more than just one blog on there. There's a bunch.
There's a few.
There's a few. So, just check that out, if you would. Well, next week, we got something special for you.
Yeah, we get to share one of our family traditions with our extended family.
Yep. So we want to invite you to be here for that next week. Okay. I guess we'll see you then.
Love y'all. Bye.
