Welcome back everybody to another episode of the weekly planet where we took movies and comics and TV shows. My name is James Larson and I'm just Mr. Sandar with me is always my co-hosts. Nick Mason. It's great to be here. But Coke on me. Yeah, because you're attempting this weird thing where you're trying to develop a
trademark. No, Cokeane. This is from a different time. Okay. Yeah. All right. Just residual Cokeane. Terrific. Mason, let me tell you something. This is a podcast we do it every week, most weeks. That's right, every week. Yeah. Yeah. And look, we do the news of the week. And this is what we're going to be talking about this week. Did you know this? We're going to talk about the new X-Men live action films getting a rider. We're going to be talking about how Pixar's laying off a bunch of
people. We're going to talk about a new Deadpool Wolverine tickets on sale trailer. We're going to take the first look at Liam Hemsworth's Geralt of Reviera. We're going to talk about the Godzilla Kong franchise. Whoa. We're going to talk about Wake Up Dead, man. Knives out mystery. We're going to talk about the smashing machine. We're going to talk about trailers for Beetlejuice and then Axel Foley and your ball. Hey, you're all cravings released
at and why that's happening. That's of course all in the lead up to Furiosa. Whoa. Time codes below. On his little tip for you. Yep. And the wise. Yeah. You shut up. That's the number one tip. And that trademark thing you're trying isn't going to work. It's working. But even if it does, what is what do you get out of that? People walk up to the street and go, yeah, and they hand me a drink. Oh. And I drink it. Did they've made it themselves? They made it themselves.
Yeah. All right. As a fan of this show. It's only handed you a can of coke in the street. Would you open that up? No. Because you you recognize that the technology is available for some of it to put anything in that can of coke and then resew. Absolutely. Yeah. Or they've just shaken it. They could have shaken it. That's embarrassing. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. No, I don't accept food. Well, you should do if somebody does that. If somebody does that, you should be like, okay,
well, let's switch. You can open it. What? They give you nothing. Okay. You give them the can. I think I'd rather the can. I don't want nothing. All right. But the second thing I was going to say is I was on an episode of my friend's podcast. My friend Lisa who has a very specific podcast called Reanimates, which is a podcast where she goes to the entire filmography of character actor Jeffrey Combs, who is Herbert Weston Reanimator. Yeah. And has done a bunch of voice work. He's on
Star Trek. He's done all sorts of stuff. I was on this week's episode. I've been on a bunch of episodes. You did the frighteners. Did you on point? No, they talk about the fronters. That has been done. This week we talked about a movie that is exclusive to Toobie. It's called The Sorcerer Beast. Corey Feldman is also in it. What? Yeah. Recently. Like last couple years. All right.
And it's atrocious. It's so upset. It's so upset. I'm sitting in bed boring. Oh, no. You know, where we have you know, you know, I would say generally on this podcast, we have a policy, but we don't make fun of like some of these fan filmers, student filmers, they're pouring their heart into whatever. Yes. Yes. It has that exact vibe, except it's clearly like they're like we're going to we're going to get rich off this. We're going to make it. We're going to build a franchise off
this. This is this is a commercial product. How's it look? Orful. Yeah. So it doesn't even look like artistically integral. It looks like a bunch of people walking through a park barefoot. Just a public park. Okay. But it's said in medieval times. Oh, okay. What clothes are they wearing? Medieval clothes. Okay. So it's nothing up time traveling. Then you have to think about it. Yeah. I guess. Anyway, if you can on a very, very niche podcast, I would say. I can't
on a niche podcast, Mason. I also can on this. I'm keen on big movies. Oh, yeah, absolutely. They're better than niche podcasts. That's right. Or even mainstream podcasts, even marginally successful podcasts like ours. Movies are better than those. I just want to be clear about that. Like whenever we critique a movie and we go, well, this is pretty good, but it could be better. It's better than this. Yeah. Absolutely. I've written here. This is via variety and deadline. So it's via one of those
people. I'm sure they all did it. Mm-hmm. X-Men live action. Something mate movie may have found a writer. And it's in Hunger Games, the ballad of songbirds and snakes, scribe. Michael Leslie, apparently, Michael is in negotiations. Oh, first name basis. Yeah. Mr. Leslie. No, no, no. Okay. So yeah, there you go. X-Men is moving forward. We knew it was moving forward, but now we know it for sure. Right. Now it's got what it needs. A writer. Yeah, it does. Now all it needs is
you know, cast and crew and director. Mm-hmm. And they'll fire the director and replace them with another director. And then it'll go for rights. Right. Yeah. Light. Light to grip. Yeah. To hold the lights. I think I'm pretty catering. Catering. They need that. And then it'll be in production for like a year and then somebody be like they've got to reroute the whole script because they forgot to put mutants in it. You know, like the blade situation. Yeah. Yeah.
What do you think they're working on this for 18 months? Well, the sort of it should be about blade fighting vampires. Okay. Cool. Great. It was going to be a period piece of one point blade. Wasn't it? Yeah. It's going to be set in the 60s where what's what's blade from the 70s, 60s, 70s. It was just he was after Morbius. Correct. It's because Morbius created blade or something. Morbius mutated blade into his movie version. Yeah. Because he was more or less just regular guy in the
comics. And then they were like, well, we got to we got to make him when when blade became popular in the movies. They're like, we're going to make the movie version. Yeah. They're going to make the comic book version more in life. The movie version. Yeah. My god, he bitten me Morbius. And now I'm not British anymore. I'm cool. I'm cool in American. It's what happened to a lecturer in the Spider-Man movies. He wasn't cool. That's right. And then when he showed up in
the next movie, he went, I'm cool. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Just a it was just a different man. He was just Jamie Foxx cool guy. Yeah. I remember that. Jamie Foxx was one of four people in that movie. Nobody else was there. You think it's because he didn't want to do the weird teeth. And then like the the two time over. And then they were just then adjust all evolved from there. They're like, we can't make him the tooth fixed in the first minute. I did. But he doesn't have to put on all the
blue makeup and whatever. He can just be Jamie Foxx and puts on an arc. Speaking of, I watched I watched one of Chris Hemsworth's Instagram Reels where he's doing like test makeup. Oh, I saw it. Yeah. It's test makeup for Furiosa. Yeah. And it's just regular super handsome Chris Hemsworth. And he's like, can you believe this? This is crazy. I'm a big crazy. Yeah. He's just got normal teeth. They've just replaced his perfect Hollywood teeth
with normal teeth. It took me a minute. I'm like, what are you? Oh, yeah. You've got regular human teeth. This is crazy. I look like a bloody wasteland dweller. Yeah. Crazy teeth. And those weren't even the teeth that they went with. They're not that too big. But yeah, it took me a minute to be like, what is this? What am I looking at here? They get my nose. They're true. They did. Talk about it. They gave him the nose from that Bradley Cooper movie.
Oh, yeah. Just the left over nose. Just the left over nose. Just the nose line about. Drinking. They're going to call it the X-Men or X-Men Year One. Because I feel like they're going to go up this. Don't make me make a prediction. It's going to bite me in the ass here. Just make a prediction. Okay. They're going to call it. Because you know, they'll often bring it back. Sure. Yes. You know, they'll. Yeah. I think they're going to call it uncanny X-Men.
Oh, that's good. I like that. That's right. What was the very first X-Men comment call? Was it just called X-Men? No, it was uncanny X-Men. Well, there you go. Then yes, it will be that. Yeah. Unless they want to save that for the sequel. Yeah. Yeah. People scream in an all-age. Yeah. Oh, my God. People still doing that. Yes. Yes. We could go. We couldn't go. Because we're after a wait in line and we'd leave. Let's not go. It could stay here. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
All right. There's a vision series coming to Disney Plus. Did you know about this? When you say vision, Paul Bettany. Paul Bettany's vision. Paul Bettany. That's New Zealand. Paul Bettany. That's right. It's Paul Bettany's vision for home renovation. It's like that Robert Downey Jr. show this just about cars. Just look at these cars that I have. Yeah. Look at all these cool cars. Star Trek, Trek, Trek, Executive Producer Terry. Mattelus is going to be the show runner.
Okay. So there you go. That's moving forward. Okay. So this is following the adventures of quite a vision, I suppose. I guess. And maybe he's transitioned back to regular vision. Regular vision. Sure. Regain to some man in humanity. He did get a lot of his brain pulled out. Yeah. But that's in the other guy. I assume at the end of this they're going to smash together and become a different. No, no, because the vision that the Scarlet which created he died
and then the white vision flew off. Yeah. Okay. Right. And then she finds him and goes, there you go. Just puts the version that she knew. You can't rule that out. There you go. Of course they can. I'm not going to get out. I'm saying that's what's happening. I'm probably not even the Scarlet. Which will do that? Just somebody. There you go. Agatha will probably be there. There you go. There you go. I don't know who I am. There you go. I know who I am now.
Yeah. Top of the shoot lasers. Still better than this podcast. Yeah. Great. I'm sorry. I mean, we thought of the idea. That's actually that says it's on it's on par with this podcast then. Yeah. We do get comments like that. It's like you couldn't make a better movie than this. And that's always true except for Max bone. Mason. Yes. Oh, do you interested in vision coming back? Yes. For us to be five minimum years. Yes. We last saw him in something. Yes.
Yeah. The timeline of this is all crooked. I don't know what's happening here. You know, why slightly revised look? Yeah. Different shoulder things. Maybe Fleshy are. Oh, you know, like that Fleshy version in the comics maybe. Yeah. When he was that
slight off that off pink tone. Yeah. That old salmon color. He was. I feel like there's there's so many characters now and they've already done so many spin-offs that they're in this position where they they have to make sequels to things that and then the other things get delayed because they do it. Do you know what I mean? Like yeah, Agatha are all along. That's exactly what I'm this is what I'm this thing based on an inside joke. The treat. Yeah.
It's pruning. Nobody like when Agatha all along comes out nobody's going to remember why they made it. Could be good though. Could be good. And then we'll all remember. I'd be funny. I don't remember why what what you did Agatha. Well, I remember someone shows up. Here you go. Oh, that stuff you did. Well, that's Carla, which is fault. Yeah. Yeah. Half and half. Yeah. This is why T HR. Oh, this is great news for you. Picks are is laying off 40% of its company.
It's part of an ongoing effort to return the company back to a focus on quality. Instead of releasing more content made for streaming service. Oh, what are you saying? 14. Oh, 14. 14. 14. Okay. Well, that's still bad. Yeah. And also what are you even talking about? High and more people with ideas and get them get them working. Get people pay properly. People paid. Yeah. Oh, you're that's that that suggests as well that they hide 14% of their stuff to
make bad stuff. Just make lots of bad stuff. Yeah, we need some challenges. Hey, you good at you good at like computer animation. No, but I got a lot of bad ideas. You're high. Yeah, that's a great idea. This is this is great. You'll love this part as well. Leadership at the top of the company isn't expected to be impacted. Oh, what? That's great. Because they're the one they get the wheels in motion. You know, isn't it amazing? Let's do a sequel to cars. Okay, there's one already
in production. Let's do another one. Let's do another toy story. Yeah. Good good idea boss. Great stuff. Because we've got a lot of new ideas and we could really, you know, that's how we got toy story. We had a really good idea. New idea about. No, they didn't have the idea. Yeah, that's right. But you know, it's what's crazy is like anybody getting fucked in a decision like this is not the person who made any of this this happened in the first place. Absolutely. And that's that's the
wild thing. Like it should be executives, right? They should kill them. They should start killing them. Yes. That's what they do in Nintendo. It's that man. Maybe when the we I think was the we you didn't go do so well. Yeah. And the CEO was just like I'll take a breakout. Yeah. Remember that? That was crazy. I don't even know what you're talking about. Okay. That doesn't make any sense. I think you made that up. Yeah, probably. That's wrong. Probably a favorite dream I had. Yeah.
A bit by a snake. I had this dream where a CEO took responsibility for his actions. We wasn't even a real console. No, that's silly. You're a silly person. He's making a silly mason. This is why I can't make a movie. No, the silliest website there is. I like it. They started. They let us start this podcast. I mean, we would have done it regardless, but they let us put their name on it for a bit. That's true. Yeah. Absolutely website. So there's a Deadpool and
Wolverine stuff this week. You see there was a sort of new-ish trailer. Yes, it does some some some giant man stuff in there. There's a Heineken commercial, which you may have seen. Yes, I did see that. And there was also a little Brian Reynolds did a little he read a little uh disclaimer off his phone. Yeah. Yes, I did. Do you don't have the text there? Do you? Can get it? Okay. The matter. It's very matter, which is what is what Deadpool is known for? Yep. Do you think that's
just getting ahead of it? Yeah, absolutely. Like being like this is what this is. That is the absolute classic kind of it's he's Eminem eight miling it. Oh my god. He's talking about all the movie shortcomings before it comes out. Here we go, Mason. This is by the independent. The headline is Deadpool and Wolverine's marketing campaign thinks you're an idiot. Okay, sure. Wait, this is it. I mean, they're correct, but that's just a coincidence. Here we go. So
they're broken up the article into like broken up what he said into different things. Okay, I'll just try and figure this out. All right, you can do it. I believe in you. We should set this rhyme. I'm not saying this. We should set the table correctly. Uh, begins Ryan Reynolds in a disclaimer. Fans could access following a QR code. This film is a paper thin as a sequel to Battlefield Earth. We're mostly going to beat each other senseless make and it means with Disney
tell a few dick jokes. So sit back relax. Let us low your IQ and raise your heart rate while we try travel to a vapid dreamland a place where grown men and grownups walk around in tights and act like it's not a giant cultural cry for help. Uh, yeah. And then I don't know if there's more of this but the article is broken it up into different. Okay, is that that's enough? Yeah, that's enough. What do you think that's enough self referential humor? Thank you. Ryan Reynolds. Look, I think
it just has to be you've done your dashed right. Yeah, I think all of this stuff will be fine if the movie is good. Absolutely. This is going to matter. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, that is I always find these campaigns exhausting to be honest. I mean, what they've done there is they've just taken a review probably of a previous Deadpool movie or this one or this one somebody's got an advanced screening and they modeled it forward. They're like, well, you're going to turn this around on you.
Pretty incredible. The pre-sales for this though, they're looking real good. Unlike some other stuff which has been hitting cinemas nice and well over a hundred million dollar debut in the US. It looks like nice, which is pretty good. It'll probably be much higher than that. But yet, flagging box office this year and it's not looking good all around. Oh, who's getting fired? Is it me? Are you firing me? Is that what you seem to do off that?
Fine, I'll go if I have to but I'm not saying that I don't feel like I feel like I feel like you're preempting me. Whatever I'm going to say. He has stood up and he's leaving. I've made enough money where I don't need to do this. He's put a stick with a bindle on his back and he's leaving. He's just walking out into the sunset. I don't understand. I realize that bindle is leaking. Coke zero, I think. I think he's just filled a sponge with Coke zero and he's put it in a bindle.
That you're not going to survive. He's back. I'm addicted to the to the success on back, most. Absolutely. That's right. Here we go. Did you get a look at this? It was the first look at Liam Hemsworth's Geralt of River area. I did. I only saw a still. Is that all we got? Yeah. There's a trailer in a site. Look at his back again. Whatever. I don't know what it says. But he turns around. It's not used to him. They did. They did. Well,
a lot of him and heavy episode. Yeah, I agree. Turns around and it's Liam Hemsworth is a good bolt of river area. I watched some to most of the first season. I didn't finish it. I never went back. Okay. So you watched most of that season. You didn't you didn't tweak that it's river or not river area. Intruder. A real place. I didn't like it. I didn't think it was right. No, really. The first season took place in multiple times, right? And the second season probably not
because they use the gimmick up and it's too complicated to do it twice. That's going to be the wrong guy. I don't know. I know fans don't love this as well because they. It looks the same. No, no, no, not the changing. I just mean the show in general. Okay. Right. They kind of. I think fans of the show probably like the show. Yeah. Sure. But the games they're saying that like they're changing things for the
fans of the books. I don't know. That's a whole lot of avenue of this that I cannot comprehend. But I think the recent word. It's interesting. It doesn't say final season of. It probably will be unless it does exceptionally well. Right. But I think they don't want to say like for the final season in case they like. Can we squeeze from not going out of this? Yeah, that's right. Can we dust off this blonde white wig and go again? Maybe just maybe Mason. There's platinum blonde locks are back.
It's Geralt from Riviera or whatever. He's back and he's got a big sword I think. And magic. Maybe he's got, do you like magic? Because that's what he's got. You know, like magic we can cut it out. I get out of here. No, which is you. We'll good beat you up. But I'm big. Well, there's a lot of us at We're all crooked. I've killed a hundred people this morning. You saw me do it. Well, we figure you tired. We get probably taken up very tired.
I've got a crook leg and a crook arm. I'll get you. I'm first in line to be beaten up by an enormous man. I can't believe it. It's happening. He got me with magic. If you like magic. If you don't, if you don't need a magic, he doesn't do magic. He doesn't do it at all. Yeah. Yeah. It's my THR. Adam Wingard has left the Godzilla Kong franchise. He did all the Godzilla Kong movies. Not all of me did some of them. He did the last two.
We did Godzilla versus a big old Godzilla or something. And then he did Godzilla versus cold Godzilla. Yeah. No. Wait. That was the last one. But the one before that, he did Godzilla Kong. That's right. He did kind of the silly or more comic bookie kind of ones. Yes. Which I still enjoyed. Apparently the parting of ways is described as amicable and stemming from timing issues. He's got something on his on his dance card called all of my shoe. I can't do. I can't do another Godzilla movie. I'm
got something on my shoe. That's something on my shoe. I think it's gum. How do I get on the top of my shoe? How do I get gum on the top of my shoe? He's doing a movie called Onslot. Is this based on the Marvel Onslot? Yeah. Surely not. Absolutely. It is not. Oh, it's an 824. Yeah. I mean, they're not going to wait. Didn't 824 like buy a bunch of comic book characters, though? Why would they have bought Marvel's onslot? Are you doing a bit right there?
No, they didn't buy it. They were like, we want to do more comic bookie big, budget, project, project, and I'm just going to show out. Yeah. Okay, right. So this onslot would suggest to me sort of a annihilation vibe. There's plot details kept under wraps. So it may be. Yeah. But do you remember that we're like, we want to do bigger things. Yeah. We want to do what I do. Yeah. We've got to do. Yeah. Do you have of course I do.
Also, he wants to do Thundercats. He's been talking about Thundercats for like 10 years. Yeah, Karen. I like his movies. Have you ever seen The Guest? The Guest is really good. No, but you have mentioned The Guest. That's Dan Stevens. That's why he's in Godzilla. That's why he's got the Ken Hare carton. He's doing Godzilla movies. That's right. Yeah. So yeah, there you go. I would like to see this pivot. Because I think there's distinct eras of this of the Monster Versus.
Yeah, even the TV show feels different than the current movies. So I think they're probably going to go towards that kind of like a semi-serious kind of world-cated movie. Okay. Maybe Kurt Russell reappeared. Did you ever finish that show? No. I don't have Apple TV. I didn't even start that show. Worth a watch, Mason. Okay. Just buy a new phone and you get it for a year. And then you forget. I just bought a new phone. Just listen. And then you forget.
Okay. And then it rolls over into the next year. And you keep buying for a new phone. I think you'll buy it in real life. Yeah. Right. That's actually a really good plan for me. It is a great idea. Yeah. I appreciate that companies do that. Yeah. Because otherwise you have to do it yourself. Yeah, that's true. They're taking the labor out of my hands and I respect and admire them. Ryan Johnson announced this. Oh yes. The next movie in his knife without trilogy is called Wake Up Dead Man.
All set for 2025. Those are all the deets. All the deets we have. Hey, Philan. Pretty good. I like those movies. Do you think this will be the last one for a while? Do you think everybody's going to be like, okay, let's rest this? Because I know how excited Daniel Craig was. Initially to do this character and to bring it back. But do you know, do you want to be doing this for the next? Whatever. Maybe he does. Maybe he doesn't have to run around shirtless.
That's true. Yeah. I imagine it was a welcome reprieve from running around shirtless as James Bond for a long time. And the endless pressure to live up to the legendary status of James Bond in every movie. This is going to stung them all. This is going to go all twinger. Yeah. Mostly. They're all mostly all better. Even the bad ones. They are mostly better, yes. But it is. It's, you know, his character to a greater degree. And you know, he can be whatever he wants.
And they just go to nice low cars. That is true. He puts on a funny accent. He puts on a funny accent. A funny little shirt. Hey, he sits in a pool with his shirt on. Yeah. It's got to be loving that. Yeah, he must be loving that. And it's also, you know, on the sombal to the degree where he could, you know, he was less of the main, well, he's not the main character in either of them really. No, he's just the investigator. You bring in a big ensemble cast. He has a few scenes. Why not?
I think it's, I think it's this year. They flash back and we find out what really happened. Exactly. He's not in any of those scenes. No, yeah. Yeah. I think, I think he's probably, as, you know, and he's, he's married with kids, I think. So, which we, That's right. That's the wife. Okay. Kids, we don't know that nice. You convinced me that Daniel Craig wants to make these movies. I think so. I think so, yeah. Your best friend, Daniel Craig apparently. You know, all about him. I know.
And how sure, let's see once or doesn't want to be. That's exactly right. Well, I'm like, exactly. I mean, we, we talk, we talk a lot of nonsense about people's motivations behind the scenes and, you know, behind the scenes. It's just us. We don't know. It's where projecting, God. We, we would be like, maybe he's like, God, I wish I was sure. It wasn't good. Hey, what if Ben will, Blanc was really ripped all the time. He could lift a car. Daniel, Daniel, please.
I don't think he'll be, I don't think he's a good investigation. He's a good detective in the vein of a shell, a comb's or a, or a, or a, what if I did, did, did, did, did, did, under this car and I lifted it over my head? Daniel, do you think Miss Marple would lift a car to look under it? All right, he can lift a car in just this seat. But then afterwards, we get to say the amulet gave me his power to lift the car. It's run out of sand. So he can't lift a car after this scene, all right?
All right. All right, guys, take all the stuff out of that car. He's going to have Daniel Craig lift the car. God, I must be good. This is exactly the power trip Daniel Craig is always on as far as I know. He's too good. You know? Of these actions that he's making. God, it's a nightmare. What is Ryan Johnson keep working with him? I wonder how many replies under Ryan Johnson's tweet about this. I'm like, you suck for the last Jedi. Oh my god. You suck. You suck, Ryan Johnson.
Didn't that come out in 20-7, Tade? Okay, I met a long time ago. Let me check. Okay. No, it's only got 621 responses. Okay, but they're normal. They're normal. Wake up, Deadman. It's using the, um, there will be blood formed. Oh, look at that. That's interesting. You think it's happening in the oil industry? I'm not saying any Star Wars stuff here. Do you think that's this means that formerly retired actor Daniel Day Lewis is back? Here we go. I found it.
Aren't you the past jewel that ruined Star Wars? Yes. Yes. I got to say that I scrolled further than I thought. I would have. Hmm. God, that's amazing. Someone's replied, why was knives out such a good movie and the glass onion such a bad movie? It's a great question. And of course, I mean, what we have to deal with now is, of course, the first 100 plus responses are all blue check idiots.
Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. What I love about it is, here's somebody who replied, it's third knives out like it to 100 emoji. Nice. And it's true. What I like about that is like, people who bought the blue check marks, like they're being saying, but nobody's engaging. No, it's just, it's tweeting, it's still tweeting to nobody. Yeah. Yeah. Who do you think should be in this? Who's a hot hot star? Timothy Schellemann. Oh, she's going to take similarly. Just take the cast of murder of the Orion Express.
Done. Bring the disguise. Or the other one? Yeah, yeah. Just get the cast of Y-Lotus. Bring them all in. All of it together. Get the cast from the lone ranger. Yeah, absolutely. Easy. Yeah, all those cool. Everyone, get the cast of the lone ranger and get him to the Greek. Just five to seven incredibly cancelled guys. Just a dozen of the worst blocks you've ever met. Let's bring them all in. It's, it's tight. The third one's got to be the worst cast one yet.
Oh, my God. I tell you what, I would, I would openly say that I respect that decision. Just going in that direction. Just being like, yeah, we got seven of the worst guys. Yeah. Why haven't we been in a murder? But it's probably not as bad as what any of them have done in real life. Anyway. 824. The smashing machines. Right. We could say that with the first image of Dwayne the Rock Johnson as the smashing machine, a biopic about this guy, UFC guy. UFC guy. Based on the life of Kerr.
It was, that's not his full name. He struggled with addiction, winning love and friendship in. His full name's Kerr Smash. Yes. Kerr, hyphen smash. Yes. He was named after a, a sound effect in a comic book. Is that true? Yes. Wow. Of course, it's true. Yes, so it's directed by Ben yet. So Mark, so it's directed by Benny Safdie. Okay. And that's his first solo directing. Of those Safdie brothers. They're the Safdie boys and they're running about. Kind of Safdie boys.
We don't know what they're up to. No, that's true. I mean, so they, of course, made Uncut Gems. Yeah. Which, you know, is a good movie. He's in the Obi Wan show at the start. Yeah. It's like, I recognize you Obi Wan and everyone's like, get away from me. Now, which Safdie is the one? Dying a square. Which is the one in Oppenheimer who's slided in. That's Benny Safdie. I think he's the actory one. I'm not sure if the other. The other one was acting.
So yeah, I mean, Uncut Gems is a deeply uncomfortable movie. Yeah. In a good way. He did that robot. They did good times. The robot patterned. That's a good movie too. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. God. Just awful movies to watch. Yeah. But really, really good. So, and yeah, so we've got, we've got the rock. Mm-hmm. Um, barely recognizable, I would say. For no, it's the hair. It's the nose he's got his hair back. He's got some hair back. Yeah. And yeah, I mean, is this the rocks return to acting?
Yeah, might be. When's the last time he did some acting? The last movie he was in. No, but you know, oh, I'll paint it again. You knew. Yeah. Yeah. I knew. Good luck to him, honestly. Like, same. I'm hoping for a, you know, a powerful performance. You want a rock nayson? Exactly. I don't mind he's never left, not even for a second. No, that's true, yeah. But you want more of that? Yeah, yeah. I want that and I want no reference to whatever dekele he's shilling. Just kidding.
I think that will be the, the, the, um, the benchmark. That'll be the benchmark. That'll be the clue that he is committed to this as a, as a, as an acting exercise as a performance and not just like another thing to advance his career, even though it's already. I mean, this is this will advance his career, if it does well. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So, but it's, it's will this character at any point and enjoy the rocks tequila.
Yeah. Even though it probably wasn't invented when this, uh, this, when this guy was active. Honestly, don't know. And the thing about movies set within history, you can kind of, you can play around with a bit, you know? You can play around. Often that's a bit of fun. It's a bit of fun. So I think it's going to be all right, most. It's going to be all right. Trailers are hoi. Ha. Yeah. Just looking here and it says it's the fucking 80s again. You got trailers for Beto juice, Beto juice.
Yep. And Beverly Hills Cop Axel. F of. It's called, they're called. Axel. Yes, they're calling it Beverly Hills Cop Axel F. Yeah, Beverly Hills Cop Column. Yeah, Axel F. Uh, that's in the proud tradition of Rocky Balboa, John Ranbo, Jason Bourne Logan. Movies named after the guy. That's true. Yeah. Uh, we'll talk about this one for us. King Kong. King Kong. That's called. Godzilla versus King Kong. Yeah, that's a good one too. What do you, uh, what you're up? We're out with this.
Uh, I've got no strong feelings about it. I like JGL. Oh, we've already, we've skipped Beto juice. Yeah, we'll come back to Beto juice. Yeah, I like Joseph Gordon Levin. What's he doing in this? I don't know. I will. He kind of stepped back for a bit. He had kids and he kind of stepped up. Yeah, and he had a record label situation going on before the music industry collapsed. I don't think that was record. I don't know what was. I don't know.
That was like, we're blending new media and old media. Was that what it was? Well, it didn't work. Yeah. Jogo Lev. They reached the out to what was one point about something about podcasting. This is like 10 years ago. Okay. Hit record, music recording company, hit record on TV, television series. Mm-hmm. Okay. All right. An online production.
An online production company, website founded by Golden Globe nominated actor, Joseph Gordon-Levy, who's been just by international artists who submit their work. This site has now morphed into a half hour series of social boat, but Joseph Gordon-Levy features work in the same global online community. It provides content on the site. Each episode features a theme around which they include a short films. Music and other films are either based episode themes include fantasy trash, space and money.
Trash. Trash. This is trash. Yep. In a nutshell, inspiring and creative. Here you go. So it's a YouTube compilation show. Seems that way. Yep. Sure is. When did that stop? Who knows, man? Who knows? I'm just looking at the, I'm just looking at the Google summary, which might be wrong and developed by AI. It also says, I eat four rocks a day. Should we do that? Yeah. Don't forget to eat all your rocks. Does it say specifically what kind of rocks? Any kind. As long as they're too big to spot.
Is it for the minerals? I doesn't say it. Says for the delicious goodness. Release this hit record. The TV series came out 2014 through to 2015. Okay. So it's been, it's been a while. It's been a while. Yeah. It's been a while, yeah. Yeah. So you're surprised that he's in this, but not that Eddie Murphy's returning to this cross-mark playground. Yep. There's a moment where he goes. It looks fun. I'll be honest with you. It does look a bit like a fart, yeah. It looks a bit die-hard for us.
Yeah. There's a moment where he goes, you were in Beverly Hills in 1984. And, and 1987 or whatever, and 1994. And that last one really feels like, what were you doing there in 1994? Yeah. Absolutely. There was no right. There was a very pointed, yeah, that third one was very bad, wasn't it? Yeah. You read it was mostly in a amusement park or something. Again, that's the one I've seen the most. Yeah. I should rewatch these leading up to something. I'm probably this, I guess.
Well, it is out July 3rd. Now, and remember, of course, there was that cancel TV pilot, which apparently has leaked, I think Ben Allorance on the map. Well, he's the chief. Yeah. Correct. And apparently it's just really dreadful. But that's fine. Perfect. It's fine that it exists. Okay, but anyway, honestly, this does look a lot, like a lot of fun. And it does sort of look like a real movie at times. It does look like a real movie. Sometimes. But I was watching it on my phone.
The crash in cars and houses and so forth. Exactly. That crazy frog song is playing. Oh my God. Crazy frog. That's a good song. Who gets money for the crazy frog? What do you mean? Who invented crazy frog? Because it was, why recollection of first hearing that? Which was originally called the annoying thing. Yeah, it was probably the late 90s, early 2000s. And it was a guy going... No, and it was a frog guy.
Crazy frog is a Swedish CGI animated character and Euro dance musician, created in 2003 by actor and playwright, Eric Burnkis. Yeah, but it was before that though, I'm saying it didn't come from it. He didn't create it. No. The character was originally created to a company, a sound effect produced by Daniel Molmodol, attempting to imitate the sound of a two stroke,
I fucking knew it. So do you think he gets money for that? No, I don't do you think I reckon maybe he got rich over the from the ringtones What's his name Daniel mole madole. How do you spell that? Daniel? Yep. How you would spell that? Mole M-A-L M-E-D-A-H-L M-A-L sorry M-A-L it'll find it. No, it's not just Google fret crazy. It's not finding it M-A-L You're not even on your computer. I'm like I'm you're in a tight fight. I've got Daniel M-A-L
M-A-L M-E-D-A-H-L. Okay now it's a card this haircut is incredible. Oh, it's a hat Ah, here we go. Okay. It worked. Here we go. There's not a lot of information about this guy. I know it's a band-down I'm not a hat. It was born in 1980 in April 2022 the government of Ukraine uploaded a video on Facebook of Russian tanks being hit by Ukrainian strikes With the crazy frogs cover of Axel F playing in the background. Okay, so the crazy van ringtone almost made half a billion dollars
That's from 2011 and it's does name him in it. So I'm assuming yes, but yeah, you go Interesting. Yeah God what a burden to be the crazy frog the voice of crazy No, that's great like it's it's it's great James. It's crazy frog. It's not flappy bird. Why is he got a little little penis? James I don't know but he does you know that right? Yeah, I eat more where why are they doing that? I don't know James I don't know why anyone does anything. Okay
I'm not I'm not the I'm not a such a student of humor. Okay, if you're as you speaking the BBC in 2005 Daniel said Jam master is making a hell of a lot of money It's one of the best selling ringtones in the world and yes They give me a cut of it, but I don't think it's even a little percentage of how much they're actually making from it He added will it make me rich no, but what was this? It was 2005 maybe it did though. Yeah, maybe it did I don't know so there you go. Yeah, well
There you go. Well now that's crazy frog. It's crazy frog. That's the 80s and that's Beverly Hills cop Axel Ollie Also beetle juice. Yes, great. Yeah, so Some stop motion stuff is back looks like they're blending the stop motion. There's a lot of look I haven't seen first bet or do so I know there's a lot of stuff
They're they're brought over though. I recognize from the previous sure one. There's a bit where you guys look at this But he's basically yeah, so yeah, absolutely yeah, the juice is loose etc Don't say beetles juice too many times. Oh, you know row Or do you have to hit you say it over a span of time if you say it's nine three times over like a year Well, it still work when the trailer shows up like she say anything in between saying the beetle juice names
I don't think so. Do you know what I mean like if you don't give you don't say anything in between Maybe that's what that's probably the game. I don't actually know it none of us know You know what does annoy me? I mean back in the day it wouldn't have mattered But now we need the deep Lord we need to know the exact mechanics so we can criticize exactly She said she said um in between the second and third battle juice so it doesn't count doesn't count or it shouldn't even be happening
No, doesn't count or in the half comes out. I don't like and I've just seen this before in like when Han Solo came back The the Lydia character is just the same like you're still doing this goth the steady when you say Lydia you mean We're right. Yeah, that's an I'm I don't I can't it's without a rider. Yeah, okay? We know from stealing those things that time Oh, yes, you did that time. She's never lived it down. Um, yeah, I feel like if you were goth in the 80s
You're not doing that anymore. I mean it's a Tim Burton. You know some outliers. Yeah, I think like oh, we know a guy I like the other guy Like if you were punk in the 70s. Yeah, you're either you mean you had to gave that up and now you're like a project manager in your rich Yeah Or you're the like the one guy out of a thousand who's still punk. Yeah, you know, you've still got them over can such yeah, you know
I know feel it's probably the same with Emel and Gothen. Okay, I got you all right and it is a Tim Burton universe Exactly, we know that because his wife's in it but not the one that you think not the previous wife the current wife Yes, Monica Balucci not right Helena Bofi
Looks like the I got her I got her that's good. I got her at a lowest point. She's divorced Tim Burton Maybe she's feeling good about my bet she is But so Monica Balucci looks like that Jack skeleton girlfriend or what yeah, so maybe maybe this is all connect I love shared universes and I was a little will And defos got his skull poking out of his head exactly. Yeah, so he's just kept the makeup from poor things
I think oh, that's fun. I move you I still haven't seen and why haven't I seen that you're most in I know because it's crook It's bloody crook mate. I don't know. I don't really know what it's about But people say it's crook. Yeah, it's bloody crook. Yeah, yeah
Last but anyway, I bet reduce I should watch the original one. That's out September 6th I did watch some of the animated TV show I think in the 90s, but I remember being like I can't I can't I wonder if watching the original would result in Being let down by this new one. I got it again I feel like oh, I just watched this no or even the sense of like oh this one I see why they attempted to make a sequel to this because it's fun and and lively and colorful and etc
This one is worse. I can't get that vibe, but I don't know. I don't know for sure. Have you seen first betel juice? I have not wow two nubs two betel nubs betel nubs last but a news is via collider And then article titled why Craven the Hunter moved to December why Craven the Hunter moved to December I mean we talked about this we speculated and because we know all the beyond we don't speculate we know we know we know we know We took a guess, but it was right as Alan
Our aunt Alan Taylor Johnson was like what what does he why is he always lifting a car? Why can't he investigate some creeps in a house? Karen okay listen you can investigate some creeps in a house, but then you just we have to destroy the amulet Which makes you investigate creeps in a house
And then you just have to lift cars for the rest of this movie, right? We'll that make you happy Produces key in Hollywood as I know great producer Matt told Mcsad Craven moved to Christmas because we're excited about it Christmas is the best release period there is It's a great Christmas when you get people with time to go back to movies over and over again. Yep I read that well This is a real reflection of how the studio felt about the movie. We're really excited
And that's a great move. Don't make it sound like a big sarcastic This is an email response sort of make it sound like I'm Being making fun of this movie. We respected. We love it. We think it's gonna be good We think everybody's gonna see it a bunch of times over the holidays I don't see anything a bunch of times and it's definitely not gonna be there. So even if it is good Um, we're really excited. We're so excited
That's a great move. There reflects just the feeling about the movie. It's got a good feeling about it It's got Russell or Ockinot you familiar with him. Yeah, he was a big scar. Yeah He's in a new exorcist movie apparently where he's playing a priest who's play. This is Russell Crowe by the way. Yes Um, he was a singer Doesn't matter Yeah, he's in a new exorcist movie After the Pope's exorcist, but he's not it's not the Pope's exorcist. Yeah, he's he's playing two Pope
He's playing two priest exorcists for the different guys. Yeah, he's got a taste for it. God imagine having a taste for something Um, the director of this JC Chand or he directed Martin call all in all his lost which is a Robert Redford stuck in the ocean movie A most violent year which I haven't seen and triple frontier which is a very Netflix affair. I say When did Robert Redford do that movie 2013? Oh, it's good. He retired. I don't think is has he even?
I don't know. Yeah, I guess you don't have to officially announce it. No, it's not required. Let me check you what the last time Robert Redford is doing Check please if you could please check the last time Robert Redford is doing. I don't mean this to be rude But how the fuck is Robert Redford still alive? I mean, he's 87. Yes, Paul Newman died. Yeah, the density the guy 20 years ago. Yeah, I know they weren't the same age like Redford's younger. Yeah, let me check
He launched on if you know this the Sundance film festival. You know this. I did know that. Yes Yeah, based off. I mean if you'd said to me. It's after his character from the sting if you'd said to me 30 seconds ago who started the the Sundance film festival I wouldn't have been able to tell you but you did preface it by telling me that and then asking if I knew and I did not They got him back for endgame remember I do
Did they yeah, and it's not new footage. I mean, it is new footage. Did they really yeah? He's in White House plumbers. He plays Bob Woodwood in an uncredited Wait, where is he in endgame? He's in the he's when they time travel all the of course. Yeah, right of course. Yeah But the last live action movie he did was Omni boat a fast boat Fantasia and he played the Loki other dolphin master. He plays the voice of Omni boat Omni boat get us out of here
Okay, I will I don't talk. I'm a boat. Oh, I guess I'll do talk Anyway, it's interesting that they think this is going to do well over the I think that makes sense December often you get a clear run. Yeah, but it only it depends it depends if you're the one who Get you get the clear run because also you're going up against the Lord of the Rings the War of Rochem We're faster the Lion King and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 So I think out of those four
Craven is the least likely to go on a fucking run. Absolutely. Yeah unless it's incredible which it might be Well Sonic 3 will be that's fine. That'll be that'll be fine
And the kids and the kids have seen these the Knuckles TV series. Yep. So there it's all it's top of mind They'll be like oh more Sonic So I guess that's that's in the running But then it's like okay, what's what are the adults gonna watch is it people who are yeah obsessed with Lord of the Rings still You're gonna see that was the other thing Lord of the Rings the War of Rochem
We don't really know I mean other than being animated. Yeah, we haven't seen end. We've seen some right productions I'm a farce of which who knows but it's the as he's got that's got a good director as well I mean, it's two movies about running about in the Savannah, isn't it? Yeah, that's true actually. Yeah, God It's a real creature feature summer Summer for us winter for others. That's right. Yeah. I don't know. I think Craven I think it could be venom quality
It could be venom and not madam web quality. Yeah Yeah, they should put that on the poster not a review quote. There's somebody going this could be venom cross Good is better. Why don't you watch it? You don't know. Yeah, you don't know till you pay for it. Watch it twice December That's right. Yeah, you got time. We know you're not doing anything. Maybe I'm gonna grow on you Maybe you won't like it in the first time maybe didn't get it. Yeah, that's right
Because he loves the animals, but then he punches a guy he does punch a guy. Yeah. All right. Should we move it along? Let's move along the thing. Oh, yeah, it's furios are a mad Max saga That's right. It's finally here a mere nine years after the last Mad Max movie
Which isn't the longest gap between Mad Max movies, but it's still too long. Is it too late? Maybe well about it on a budget of $168 million the box office initially was predicted to be about 40 to 45 million Which would be on par with Fury Road bearing in mind and we talked about this recently when we covered them for Caravan of garbage
Fury Road did okay nobody expected it to do well either no and it probably broke even and it took on a life of its own and I think I I believed and I think you were the same that it was a bigger movie than And what it was yes, I remember talking about it a lot and loving it and going oh my god It's a very road, but I guess the the world at large was like oh, yeah, Mad Max. It's good. Maybe I'll see that on David
It's good. Maybe it's good. Maybe yeah, but I think it's obviously done well enough on streaming and they're selling various versions of it That you know they want to brothers thought to put this much money into it, but this is via deadline This is the article says arch. It's looking really bad Warner Brothers is a classic line from the movie by the way. Yeah, that's true Remember when memory you handcuffs tow cutter that car and he goes out. It looks really bad
That's you you better be wondering how you got here. It was me Mad Max Mad Hugh Max Rockatansky Furiosa was just happened The cobble up with a man attached to it. That wasn't tow cutter either Mason. That was a Jimmy the boy or something. Yeah, yeah, right. It's a great joke Furiosa was possibly posting the lowest opening for a memorial day movie in 41 years and with four days Expecting to hit between 31 and 35 million. Oh, because this is a holiday in the US
That's right. We're a big big holiday weekend. Have a great time. Great. How'd be nice stab holiday weekend We'd never have one in Australia. They don't give us holidays. They say get back to doing communism It's what they say they do say that we have to because we want our free healthcare. We're gonna do communism. We don't like it
Uh, then they take away Australia day took it away. Don't have it anymore. They took that day off the calendar And they said you're an idiot Uh, how the holy heck is that if the George Miller directed prequel comes in on the low end the last time a number one movie
Oh memorial day opening filed a four day gross take uh, that was lower was back in 1983 with return of the Jedi Which made 30.5 million dollars and that was a lot of money back then Uh, also it says for all the how we gave Disney slash Lucasfilm solar was star wars story back in preco
The 2018 with its 103 million four day debut G's that looks insanely rich by comparison apparently this needs 440 million Uh, dollars to break even garfield also open which might do a little bit better despite not having very good reviews I think this movie is late. A buckle a garfield saga So it's catless yep good, but not free of a big cup of dog salmon We do see the origin of the big cup of dog salmon. That's right. Everyone Google that comic
um, I think because this was delayed due to covert. I know water brothers and um George Miller got an illegal dispute about payment behind fury road and all of that. Yeah, you have to sue him to get some money back Yeah, I think I think yeah, this might just be a little bit like despite like the marketing campaign for this and forgive the pun It's mad Max Mason Got him who absolutely got him. You whoever needed to be got just then you got them
But they're everywhere. They're literally everywhere. You cannot like it's YouTube videos. It's bus shelters Whatever man, it's the middle middle of Melbourne at the bloody offlander street neck across the clock You can see an ad for Fioriosa and people seem to be liking it as well
I've just got some quotes here. This is why film updates It said Fioriosa received a seven minute standing ovation at the can film festival This one's also by a deadline Megalopolis debut of cans with a seven minute standing ovation This is why people we kept clapping but we didn't know why Said the audience and you to sir. Everyone was doing it. I was doing it too People magazine now I understand why the world falls to fascism because I It's not a pressure, but I just started clapping
I couldn't help myself everybody else was clapping. I was afraid People magazine said Kevin Costano is moved to tears by a 10 minute standing ovation for his passion project horizon in cans He said I'll never forget this Indy why also gave the film a C minus This is why variety James. James. Can I head you off here? Are you suggesting that every film gets a long standing ovation? No, Johnny. Uh, this is why variety Johnny. Dep is Tiriiders
Genet did do Barry received a seven minute standing ovation following its premiere. I honestly thought you're gonna say Johnny Named it. It's a seven minute standing ovation All I'm saying is I don't know what these people are doing. Yeah Uh, anyway, I quite liked it. We'll talk about it, but what do you think the story was? Oh come on, mate. Yeah, come on All right, well It's just a tale of the future and in the few days we'd war. Yep. There's been war and then
We we opened on a wonderful place. It's called the green place and it's named such because it was built on the hallowed land of greens Borough Plaza shopping center A holy land from in the before times You could get a doughnut and see a movie Really? Yeah, you could. Yeah. Oh my god. That's right. Yeah. Yeah, it's something incredible That would that would they'd find you For parking there even if you work there. Oh, yeah, that's right rude. That's my penis communism. Yeah, that's easy
Anyway, it's the the the the gray place in this there's a young furiosa. Yep. No, such even though Her parents probably didn't know how furious she was going to get that no idea bad bad call. Yeah, my opinion Uh, and then she gets stolen away from the green place and then Goes in a big adventure and then furie road happens after that then furie road happens after that. Yeah It's a revenge plot of sorts. It is Yeah, it's a sort of survival story. That's right. It's structured more
Episodically than furie road. Yeah, it's broken up into chapters This is the most law heavy. I think Mad Max has ever been yes Absolutely. This one is is is the departure from the previous ones Because it is based heavily on a previous one. Yeah, it's it's not you know all the other ones to go with certain Other ones are largely unconnected this bill took quite heavily on furie road We go we see a lot of the same cast of characters a lot of the freaks from the previous one
Angus Samson angus Samson is there. Yep. Well name other people as well. They're all on the way We remember about it. We own spoil we won't spoil which member of rock royalty from the band UMI is in this for a man Tim Rogers is in the Rogers is in this he's in it for a bit. He's in it for a bit. Yeah, that's true Yeah, we won't name which former Australian Prime Minister is in this. It's John Howard. It's John Howard But not that that John Howard he played Bob jelly and sea change
He was also in the previous one is the Garth and metal nose the people later. I the people later Yeah, I um, I liked this I I think it falls down in a few places. I don't think it's as good as furie road Well, see that's the thing and we really have to keep perspective here because I I I think it is probably a rare person who is like this is better than furie road But I've been in the mad Max red it's something exactly in the in the of the last
Five to ten years of movies action movies especially this is very good. Yeah, like there's a really great action sequences in this I before I thought I would I would have thought based on the previous one there is no more Ground to cover in terms of interesting innovative action sequences
But I think there is in this I think there's some some new interesting things in this there's some uh like fun takes on aerial combat That they didn't have in the previous one and I'm like okay, that's you would do that in the uh, I mean you should in the post-apocalyptic future Yeah, um and yeah, that I again, I think Yeah, I think good good performances all around uh, but yeah, it does fall down in a few places
But again, don't get us wrong. I think this is worth watching. It is definitely worth watching on the big screen Yes, I think that you know if you're gonna if you have plans to see this movie don't wait till streaming I think you should see that movies because it works better on a big screen I don't know if there is an iMacs release, but if there is there is yeah, okay, right now Mason People this my go to youtube and people might say Mason you were just afraid to say that you didn't like it
Oh, of course because I'm a coward. Yeah, what do you say to that being from communist Australia? I am afraid I'm afraid to express any opinions because the gum or get me Yeah, yeah, because you either really really like something or it's bad. Is that right? There's no middle ground as we know We're gonna say before spoilers whether this is the best movie ever all the worst movie ever And I want to say it's the worst movie ever
You got to allow to say it's the best movie ever spoiler alert. How did you feel about Ania Taylor joy taking over as furiosa? Good. I also thought it was good We also get a young lady
I had to look it up her name is Alilah Brown. I think plays little furiosa and It's actually quite difficult to determine where the switchover happens with yes And Ania Taylor joy like there there is a period where she she spends some of her formative years like always wearing a mask Yeah, it's a mask grade is someone else and then at certain point you're like oh, it's Ania Taylor joy now
Yeah, how long has it been Ania Taylor joy? So like in terms of casting yes, I especially sort of eye casting I cast you good good job. Yeah, need to put goggles over those eyes. Yeah, but do you believe her as a as a Is like a like an action powerhouse? I do. I think if I had a complaint of this Well, first of all what the initial plan was they were going to D.A.
Charlies the wrong child is the right which I think they wouldn't have even needed to do necessarily especially if they filmed this You know, it is coming at like 2018 Which it should have and again all of this there's this the timelines of ache. Yeah, absolutely doesn't really matter And even George Miller mentioned this in a few interviews. I love this and that guy talk about oh, yes and stuff
You're great. Um do you love him talking about video games? Yeah, so I do sometimes because well, yeah We'll get some of us. We do should we do it now? I will maybe we'll come back to you say you think okay So you say you think your little thing you very it says it says I'm sorry It says get fired up about this thing you're gonna say he said and I'm so fired up the best directors Even the when the best directors used D.A. Jing you're just looking at the technology the D.A.
Jing technology and that is true of me like when I'm watching Indiana Jones in the when that happened last year I couldn't stop Looking at it whether it looked good or bad the only thing I was really focused on was Is this what is like it's bad here? Oh, it's good here. Is there some or I some D.A. Jing in this I the bullet farmer I think is that the same actor? Yeah, that is the same act. I don't teach him okay
Fair enough. Yeah, or it's an excellent makeup. It's an excellent makeup job or a somewhat noticeable CGI Sure, yeah, potentially. I honestly I didn't I didn't notice it But you know what I would have liked yes, I would have liked the entire third act of this movie to have Charlie's They're on return right and do these data's the lead up. I think that also would be like why would you get on your Taylor
Joy to then replace her in the third? Yes exactly. But I think narratively I think that would have worked better For me to go in that direction. Yeah, but look no honestly no complaints and you know I thought was really good gone Charlie Fraser who plays Purious as mother I showed she was great. She's amazing. She's only in the first act now you I haven't seen this movie
She's also an anyone but yeah, right? So I don't know what a deal is I didn't recognize her at all even though it's very clearly the same person, but so she plays Furious as mother at the start of the movie before
Furious it gets taken by the gang members and she is really good in this. Yes. She's You know, she's she's depicted as kind of capable and angry and kind of you know She's she's skilled and she's and you really you believe that she is someone who sees her daughter get kidnapped and is just like
I'm gonna get on horseback and I'm gonna follow and then I'm gonna you know The head shot a bunch of gang members and steal their motor bikes and you know Put together a functioning vehicle and then go on a chase like you don't oh that whole opening is yeah incredible Yeah, it's it's probably the best stuff in the movie very strong opening. Yeah, really to record. She's good
I died would like to see her and more stuff. I agree. She's Australian. I just right now because anyone but you was in Australia anyone but you is Australian Chris Ham's worth de mentis. I I just it's just a fun time like absolutely like a dreadful man obviously, but yeah, really fun It's um and we we you know, he's uh He's a sort of wannabe is it well. He is a cult leader. Yeah, he's a cult leader who who his his ambitions outstrip his skill probably like
He's you know, there's a moment where he just gives away like two of his best guys. Yeah, yeah in a trade and he's just like yeah Yeah, yeah, like he's very self-destructive. He's very self-destructive and he's very full of himself and there's a moment where he meets up with with the antagonist of the previous movie Yeah, they go they end up in the citadel and he's like I'm gonna destroy all of you
And then it just does not go his way at all. Yeah, that was very interesting. Absolutely. Um I thought it was interesting that when he first shows up he's wearing like a white robe and there is that cult leader aspect of him and he's using this kind of softer kind of deity kind of persona or an even voice And then he very quickly devolves into this. Oh get out man. How you going like it?
Which is I think it's intentional apparently Chris Hemsworth based this voice office grandpa Okay, that's a they all sounded like they all sounded like that like that's a very specific voice from like the 70s and 80s that a lot of a Stratt add this kind of nasally kind of like this. Yeah, it doesn't really exist anymore
But it makes sense when if this started in the 80s. Yes, that this guy would exist, right? Yeah, and of course We learned in the Mad Max prequel comic books that came out around the same time as Fury Road that Immortan Joe was a was a military guy and so on all his lieutenants and then he became this wallard We don't really know how
Dementus became the way he was but I like to think it was an office guy. Just worked in an office. He could be yeah. Yeah, absolutely Um, so look the effects in this yes There's some Very ropey green screen at times this movie is not tanker chase this movie does not look as good as the previous movie and it's sort of It this this gave me the same vibes as the fall guy Yeah, we spent we spent the entire movie going well
This doesn't look great and then at the end we see a montage of all the real stunts being performed for real And then you think why did you smear visual effects all over this movie at the end this is not a spoiler. I don't think but at the end of Furiosa we get a montage of clips from Fury Road. Yeah, which look a lot better. Yeah, they looks there the explosions look more dangerous Yeah stunts look more dangerous I I think a lot of this is down to safety. Yeah, absolutely
Which I don't look if it has to look like this so nobody dies. That's fine Well, exactly. I also want you know and as you mentioned, you know the Fury Road didn't do as well as we all assumed it did yeah based on the look of the movie and I'm wondering if they went We will let you make an ugly we will give you the money to make this but you cannot
That was a disaster you cannot make a bad. Yeah, I mean we all you know there's plenty of interviews and stuff that suggest Was an insane shoot and I think perhaps they said You can't do you can't leave people in the dark is what you're making and we need to see everything done the right way in etc
Um, what's interesting as well just as a side note So onion Taylor joy and interviews has said something along the lines of she Didn't know what was happening like it's a very isolating kind of shoot Yeah, you know that that's that sort of same thing and that's what happened with Tom Hardy and yeah
And Shalee's the Romani did the last one. They don't have all the pieces And I don't know which is interesting because as it differs from this movie the Fury Road was just a trip across the desert in one direction For about two acts and then it was a trip back in the same direction. Yeah, so it seems odd to me that George Miller couldn't just point to a bit of paper and go on here now
Like if that was George. I don't know what's happening. I feel so lost and I'm losing my mind Yeah, we couldn't go yeah, we're here today You're still going in this direction And then tomorrow we're going to film some stuff going in the other direction. I think a lot of that was also weather Dependent oh yeah, and like they switch things on the fly Tom Hardy wouldn't come out of his trailer I read an interview or it was about George Miller and he was
He thought like I don't know why I've cast this guy. I wish I had I wish I had Heath Ledger like literally thought Because Heath Ledger was going to be mad Max at one point Um, and there's a guy in this who is mad Max. We'll talk about Yeah, so but what I would yeah before we get that's that's kind of a spoiler. We'll talk about that Yeah, um What I would say is that again like this not literally bother Fury Road is is uh Very very straightforward. This is more
Again like TV show. It's more it's more. Yeah, it's it's broken up in the chapters. There's more world building There's more law What I felt maybe was a downfall of this one and again, I you know, the first one is sort of lighting in a bottle
Yeah, and it is that endless action sequence. It's almost entirely action all the way through To me this this movie It made the universe feel quite small because it's set between like three Citadel's basically three citadel's but that the I mean Fury Road was as well, but to me when you saw that movie
To me it felt like every trip across the desert could end in death. Yeah And everything may as well be a million miles away like the idea of they want to go to the green place So they want to go to the you know gas town or the bullet farm or whatever it is they have they go through when there's there's Storms and there's fire tornadoes all this sort of thing. You don't know who's going to attack you
Exactly. And who's gonna live and all this sort of stuff and and it just felt like Every trip is a is a is a journey into the unknown and kind of who's gonna survive There's a bit of that there's a bit of that but it also this this movie felt because we know all the players and we know all the locations from the previous movie It felt to me like it's just yeah, we're just going down the road Yeah, I know I just pop it down again
There's a literal there's a literally a road like a paved road One of the action sequences which is very reminiscent of well what they used to do in the old max Mad Max movies, but Fury Road it's it's like a tanker takedown say something
Uh, which that to me was the kind of the ropeiest one in terms of special effects like technically it like it all works And then it flows and you understand what's happening But it does feel like it's they're on a road and there's green screen and whatever and there's like flying elements to it Like you mentioned. I thought that was digital. Yeah, that's real like they had people like rigged up
They had like cranes dangling guys on fans. Yeah, I'm going after the the tanker which I which I didn't think so I think But the out the one the one action sequence which was most reminiscent of the last one I think isn't as good as the other one, but the newer stuff like I I did like there's a moment where That there's a section that takes place in the bullet farm
And that to me felt very because I've been playing to the mad max game. I finished it now. It's amazing Where that felt to me like a like a level in that where you go in and you kind of like you grab a car that cars fucked Okay, it's not this guy and run is everyone's pile ago top. There's a there's an army of disgruntled insane people who were like scrambling to survive and they see Uh, a thing that might be there. Mm-hmm. They're their salvation. Yeah, you know this tanker full of stuff
Yeah, and they're like, you know, it felt like maybe something out of a zombie movie. Just these insane. Yeah
Hey, wait, you talk about that the one at the fuel depot or the one at the bullet farm. Well, there's a couple as there's a couple Yeah, but though those sequences I I really I really liked and the you mentioned a bit at the citadel at the start when Chris Handsworth turns up and that's that's a fun Moment where you say that this citadel isn't something and we've seen this in the comics that you can just walk into and yeah Expect to go your way. Yeah, and again, I look again. I
In terms of the canon of mad max movies. I think this is very good But it I kind of maybe I feel like because we see so many of the same players. Yeah, I go. Yeah, okay Well, we are we are definitively setting this in the same universe and There's not as many surprises I would have hoped for like I think maybe the the the thing about Fury Road is there was so many new freaks in it
Absolutely, you know, you got a guy with you got a guy. Yeah, you got a guy with bullets for teeth and just a just a weird Pervert and a three-piece suit and a Morton Joe and all the the war boys The and it's those guys, but again, but it's those guys and again, I kind of I would have loved another sequence in a new town Yeah, I guess we got that with with Dementus's gang. Yes, sure You know, I hear what you saying there's some decent freaks in that at the start you see the world, right? Yes
What what I can't remember what what does the world look like outside of Australia? Is it all desert? I know I think the only detail we get zoomed in is Australia, okay, which definitively puts the action of the mad max Central Australia is part. Yeah, um Um, I thought it was interesting who they they brought back like so Morton Joe is in this, but he's Hugh keeps burn pasta ways. They got lucky. Hume who I like who will it who is or is Skace or got skates? Yeah
In let's get skates. I think he got skates. He might have got skates. I don't think it was He also plays two characters in this he plays another one. I'd go in this. There's two There's at least a couple of people you play a couple of people also Pataki is in this so Chris Hemsworth's real life life I want to talk about that also god damn. There's I got things to say about that. Is that spoilers or is that uh? I thought it was but no Okay, well, so she plays
One of the residents of the green place. She won't one of the one of the kids are leaders. I think at the start of the movie She also plays a character who I couldn't place. I think I might know it is, but in the credits She's listed as I think mr. Norse. Not in yeah, there's a woman in de mentis as gang who has like he's like very heavily Facially smart and look sort of jokes. So is that her so what happens? Yes
That there's a character at the start. You know what this is probably a spoiler thing I was saying let's let's hang on to it. I thought there was a character arc there, but there's not right Okay, uh because some people play two characters Yeah, but I thought having a Morton Joe in this I felt he felt less. Okay. Did you get that like The physicality of it the voice because he's less of a legendary car in the in the in fury I it's again, it is a shame that we have to keep comparing these things
We shouldn't it's as an action movie very good. Yeah, if you saw any of this in any other movie Yeah, you'd be like whoa look at that. This is crazy. You know, but it's you're saying this as a star was prequel Yep, this is the phantom medicine Max movies is what I'm saying yeah, it because in the We don't know anything about in Morton Joe and then the prequel comics did that as well
They took away a bit of the yeah the mistake of this character. He's just this enormous bulk of a man Yeah Who's being held together with plexiglass and breathing machines and what have you and we don't know where he came from But he is this cult like hold on all these thousands of people
And in this year he's just sort of walking around. Do you think that is a result of them leaning into The law of this universe and over explaining things because mad max movies they don't really do that Yeah, and if you want to know any details about this movie this universe Yeah, you either read the four comics that exist or you read or watch interviews with George Miller because nothing else
Exists like around this. That's true Well, this also brings in some video game stuff as mentioned like chum bucket is in this
Yes, you're the little the little mate in the game. Yeah, yeah, because we talked about this to death But that 2015 video game George Miller Did all the concept art and whatever or you can do it himself, but you know, I mean they designed this whole world And this is what fury road is going to look like and then they stepped away from it and Warner Brothers just made that game And that's why there's so much stuff from the game not only in fury road, but there's a fucking ton of it in this
Which I like actually. Yeah, yeah Um, there's also the history man like there's more history man stuff. That's right Yeah, we sort of we we finally see that in live action It was in the comic books. It's mentioned briefly in fury road at the end Quote from the first history man
Yes, we actually see these kind of a few of them. Yeah, these kind of tattooed Men who who and women who are they Wikipedia they're Wikipedia In the they've learned the knowledge of the previous world and they've you know, rightly all wrongly and uh Yeah, there's also the character of smeg played by David Collins
Second bite of the apple this year in big Hollywood movies guy from the umbilical brothers. It was also in the four guy Yeah, um, there's also I feel like maybe this this movie has been is sort of the victim of uh We'll have to talk about the spoilers, but is it in the victim of so many rewrites probably over nearly a decade probably longer I mean, there's a couple of small elements which I think we'll probably talk about in spoilers that I think maybe were intended to go somewhere initially
And now they're just there okay, it's just stuff now yeah I should we talk about the guy who's mad max, but he's not mad max a guy who shows up and like let's talk like I reckon we let's let's draw a line here. I'm gonna say best movie I'm also in terms of actually This is very good. Yeah, it is it is everybody does a great job. It's it is unfortunate that is followed by
It's like um, it's like casino royale. Oh no, it's it's like anything that followed casino royale Sure, yeah, or anything that followed the matrix or anything that followed Some some other movies empire strikes back anything like that. Yeah speaking of the soft performance of return of the Jedi In 1983 or whatever Yeah, I'm gonna say best movie ever definitely I Yeah, despite all of these criticism, but I did really enjoy it
Um, and I but I'm just unsure whether they're ever gonna make another one of these honestly depending on how it's good Well, I mean George Miller has talked about he wanted to he said he wanted to make a prequel that explores the the origins of mad Max Yeah, a lot of people said do you mean like the movie mad Max?
But I think maybe he wasn't it's called the wasteland Yeah, he wants to do something that sort of matches the aesthetic of these versions Yeah, okay, you know, and maybe make it more crazier and chaotic and maybe set He's origin Further into the future like define it as not the late 70s the early 80s. I would like if he does do it get to go beyond Thunder dome nice, but also beyond like after fury road. Yeah, absolutely
Leading up to fury road now. This is spoilers. By the way. I won't spoil this. Yeah times spoiler time For we did you say was the best movie ever? Yes, I did We know that that already Yeah, also, I know I said that he wasn't but mad Max is in this movie. Well, yeah, he is so we got to we essentially got two mad Max's first of all Uh, at some point clearly they've gone
So someone I'm gonna say water brothers. Yeah said okay, so we're gonna get his mad Max not in this They said well, Furious is gonna have some adventures with mad Max right is gonna be a big action sequence with furious or in mad Max And George Miller said well, this is before he met she met mad Max Yeah, and they went can we just have a guy that is basically mad Max he dresses like mad Max. He's even got the shoulder
It's got the shoulder pull through he does so his name is Tom Burke. He's named it been in the he's a he's a warrig Uh, driver. He's called Praetorian Jack. He is the personality of mad Max. He's also well as in the movie man If you say man. Yeah, he's got that also well as head he does yeah, he's in the Cassanova TV series starring David tenor to place cousin over So you remember that vaguely But also watching this guy in this I think he would have maybe made a better mad Max the top-hardie
Interest you look okay, right? Yeah I don't know I thought he was I really liked it, but it was strange that they just put mad Max in this twice Yeah, oh also. Yes, so there was a there's a scene There's a sequence where where of course furious or is wandering in the desert. She's done another daring escape Yeah, and and she collapses and then we see Essentially the identical shot of mad Max yeah
With his interceptor on the top of a ridge from fury road. Yep, and he doesn't have the long hair He doesn't and he's eating lizards or dog food or whatever Yeah, and then it is implied that he probably drives down a rescue sir and takes it to a Made the same cannibal woman. Yeah, um, that's uh, so that's mad Max's stunt man. That's Jacob Timore
Tomore who was Tom Hardy stunt double. Do we need that? Do we need that sequence? No, I don't think so I haven't to have encountered each other before they met in fury road when they may not have encountered each other I think it's led vague enough where maybe he didn't maybe just drove off. Yeah, you know I don't have a problem with it Well good because it happened. Yeah, you can't do anything about it. So you'd have to suffer
I think I like preferred that to we see him he drives down. He drops her off. Yes, he waves goodbye It's right. I prefer this actually you in fury. I'll see you on the fury road If he's gonna be in it So I guess if you look at the comics and I guess video game but more so the comics Um, this is after he gets the car and hope and glory are killed Yes, before he goes fully like feral If in fact if in fact any of that is canot yeah, which it is okay or isn't
Hmm correct ask the history man. No, anyway. I was talking about dropped plot threads. Yeah, okay So the initial Action sequence Furio through is captured by some of Dementus's men and they want to take her to Their encampment, but of course nobody can know where the green place is because people will come in and destroy it So yeah, the goal of the the residents of the green place is kill everybody So that nobody you know, so nobody alive knows how to get there
So yeah, and and and the the initial plot is that Dementus really really wants to go to the green place because it's you know It's got abundance and what happy when he sort of derailed Throughout the movie because they encounter a war boy. Yeah, they learn where the citadel is and then they learn of the location of gas town And the bullet farm and all those sorts of things there's a there's an element in this where
Furiosa as a child draws a star map on her arm. Yeah to the Sort of would allow it to Points in the direction of the green place and it's the arm that she loses And I thought well, there's probably gonna be a scene gonna cut it off. Well somebody's gonna somebody's gonna She's gonna need to somebody's gonna want to know the location of the green place and she's gonna her ugly cut her arm Also nobody could ever know because she's never gonna talk
But then it just gets smashed up in an accident and then she cuts it off. Yeah Do you think that feels like a mirror that feels like an extremely dropped plot thread? I think I don't know Maybe it was like a like a red herring maybe it's a red herring. That's maybe maybe it's just an illustration of like well
Anything could happen in yeah in this place. No nothing means anything. I thought the dude who was mad Max But not mad Max so which one Jack the fake Max okay Was going to betray her and so that kind of led to her distrust of mad Max or people like Where's like oh he's kind of noble and nice and teaches her everything she needs to know when they're in love But then he betrays her yeah, but it's not it's just more kind of straightforward than that
It's interesting as well in this universe. There's a there's you know war boys and like demented bikers or whatever and there's just some guys who decided not to play into it. Yeah, we're not doing this Hey, do you want to join my death cult and shave your head and cover yourself in white mud? No, I'd rather not thank you All right, we can drive my truck. I guess that's fine. Is it normal? That's okay? I mean, that's a guy you'd want right? Yeah, yeah
He's your executive class. Yeah, exactly Yeah, um, so the Elsa Pataki character is so at the start she is initially going after y'all little three oh
So with furios' mom. Yes, and so they good they you think they're gonna do this action sequence together, but Furos' mom says no go back to the grandplace I'll endless and then later there's a moment where Elsa Pataki turns up again She her gang is captured by demented so that is her no Oh, I thought it was and then over the course and then in that fight she loses like a lip a top lip in the fight Yeah, it's like swatting the face
And then she's one of the five that survived and then she joins the gang. Yes, and then you see She's just in a background character the whole time. Yeah, and I thought oh this woman has been left in the wasteland or captured or went after Furiosu and her mother so that is Elsa Pataki. It is okay, right?
But they're not the same character, right and I thought what an incredible story arc that they never spell out It's and maybe it'll reveal that actually is the same person right okay, but I thought that I was fascinated by this This little story that was happening right in the background Yeah, and like you know you could draw the line that she yeah, yeah, she absolutely she went out on her own She went rogue to try and find
Uh, and furios are on her own and then she ran out of hair dice or hair went to a natural black. Yeah, and then she got in in a
Intert rubble with the gang. She joined again. Yeah, maybe yeah, and you know she's surviving and I think it would be a really interesting narrative We're like sure when you're in the green place in this solar power and water and green place And there's plants and animals and whatever that's all great Uh-huh, but if you take most people out of that scenario and put them in the wasteland
I'm like a feral. This is what's gonna happen to them. Yes, and I thought wow that's really interesting until it's not it's not that interesting So it's a two different characters. Yeah, but again, I would love it if that that I think I'm gonna hang on to that But that's my idea of that character. Uh, yeah anyways um Revenge tree revenge. Oh, yeah, at the end. Yeah, we we see numerous ways where the the death of a dementism might be played out
One's uh, a few risks it gets a revenge. Yep, and maybe the canonical version is she leaves him in the citadel and uh
Plants of training. Plants of training. Yeah, I'm sure why not yeah, yeah Uh, I didn't mind that I think I would have Like the idea that he knew who she was earlier Right, because the kind of the end showdown between those two it's just kind of a chat where it's like you're this person And I'm this person I quite like the idea that he has killed so many people and this this world is so
Uh, harsh and unforgiving that he just forgot who she was. Oh, I don't have a problem with that But I just mean I think you could have had that play out earlier and then he realizes what And this is what you're like Because there's so you're right there is so much of this movie where he's just he's just being he's just being shot at He's being snipe all these men are being snipe by some random woman. He's like, well, okay, this is probably this is this is a choose day
Yeah, exactly. Yeah, you're right. So I don't know that's just but also yeah, maybe you're right Maybe that speaks to like he just does this a lot. Yeah, this is every day Yeah, I like the idea that the in this universe everybody is so damaged and everybody is so uh Ruined by this universe his family about what happens right here. It also might not be true might not be true Yeah, exactly. That's right. He might have been a
Insell on the internet who just imagined all this. Yep. You know, I they didn't have the internet in the 80s No, that's right a phone booth guy. Maybe it was a guy who's calling sex lines on the phone booth. He seems a time Yeah, that this world was so harsh and he was so damaged and you know, he but it it doesn't it didn't make him a better person
And you know this this cycle continues and it's gonna continue um Here's a plot line that I thought was odd uh Young young few as child furiosa furiosa is traded to Immortan Joe in the citadel to be one of his future brides, I guess which is implied in the comments Yeah, and then he just then she just disappears for a while and nobody notices for years
Yeah, and then it just a mechanic shows up in the citadel. Yep, and it's like I'd like to work on these cars And they go, okay, you don't have to show your face if you don't I think it's it's down to usefulness. Yeah, it's true. Yeah, people don't care
And she just pretends to be a boy, I guess for some amount of years. Yeah, I don't know I just I just thought that was odd given that all of fury road is about some brides who've escaped Yeah, and it's all about all hands to battle stations as we find these brides, but in this this This one disappears and Immortan Joe doesn't even think about it again. No, I mean I guess he has a bunch of other guys and you know and So that's also also that again that is implied in in the comic
But also and you remember this because we did a book club on it. That's right where she ends up being their security team Yes, and that's why she ends up freeing them. Yes, so there's that element to it
Oh also and then Charlie's the Ron is in this movie. I don't know whether that's actually her or whether I'll write at the end There's a moment where you see and I'm your Taylor joy walking to greet the brides And then the next shot it's Charlie's the Ron and then it's them all piling into the warrig probably the stunt I will it could be but I think it was all I think they might have just scanned her head
Maybe to try out all the engaging stuff. Okay, sure and but I don't think any of that brides Stuff I don't think they're really there. I think that's probably old footage that they yeah the stuff Well, you see their face because it is them is actually all the actors. Yes, but I know I thought that was a nice little kind of Transition period, but then you know then seeing all most of Fury Road at the credits was was a kind of odd choice. Yeah, I thought
Anything else most whenever that happens. I always think are you trying to give me Are you trying to leave me with more positive memories of the movie that I had? Yeah, is that what you're trying to do here? Remember this better thing The very very very very after the credits. No, but I know that the the reveal is you see a nucks bobble head. Yeah, okay Oh, it's not that's these thing on the car Yeah, I can't remember I think yeah, I shouldn't have stayed but I did
Shouldn't have stayed me shouldn't have stayed me it did. I got some reviews here. I can't ready This one Rob who says hashtag with the punopod Fury Rowser definitely falls into the best movie ever category serves as a backup slash lead up to the extended chasing that is Fury Road Miller certainly knows his way around an action set piece. This is from mist faq from the blue sky and social
Sure, absolutely. So Fury O's and it was definitely George Miller's most fireside mythology mad Max film Actually, I want to rewatch rewatch Fury Road and look forward to the wasteland best movie ever per weekly planet pod mythology How do you think this will work? Ah in chronological order you watch Fury O's or then you watch Fury Road. I think watch him in the order
They came out interesting. I mean it would work like either way, but yeah Brad Summer says sort this afternoon Which I liked it was just cars and sand found an incredibly boring acting was good
But overall was super bored throughout the whole film super bored. I certainly wouldn't say I was super bored No, I mean either Russell Michael says Fury O's a mad Max saga was awesome Chris Ham's birth plays a real dog of a bloke his arm Lost or her arm loss origin reminds me of crisp and glovers in hot tub time The show I just waiting for it to happen got a live a prequel that doesn't suck best movie ever and prana Vanathan says I thought it was good not great acting in action was great
But oddly slow pacing and it should have been 30 to 45 minutes shorter I think I just set my expectations too high as Fury Road one is my favorite is one of my all-time favorite movies Still a cool movie though. Oh, I got this last one from Sham who says Fury O's was a blast I can't believe how incredible it was so I didn't I'm accident was stunning Chris Ham's was really stole the show And I hope we get a gazillion more dementous movies Um probably no
Maybe a cameo here and there but uh, I don't know if this is um, I mean have to be a prequel or an in-between Oh a prequel a prequel you say I would like to move forward with this universe Um, yeah, I don't but again like depending on how this goes I don't know if we will see another one of these for a while. All right. Yeah, nice. What do you think? Maybe you want to see a Tom Hardy return? Yes, Max movie because I do I would I would love to see where this universe goes
Is it gonna get better? Is it gonna get worse? Where's worse? Worse, okay. Yeah, I'm just gonna have alien show up. Yeah, maybe okay cool. Why not? Yeah, I like you I want to see what else what else exactly what else, you know, what else? What are they do they? There are some other thunder domes out there, you know, yeah, what's happening in nations other than Australia? What's on the coast sure you know, oh Boats boats maybe some boat maps you're a boat
Mm-hmm. There's a movie. It's about the ocean and it's sort of Mad Max and it's something but I can't remember what it is Postman that's right the postman wet post Well, no, you got the post wet on the wet postman. Oh, what did you expect? You hand you post to the wet postman You're post gonna get wet. Yeah. Yeah. I enjoyed it. Need to warm Mad Max. More Mad Max. More Mad Max games
Yeah, but don't do the Warner Bros. model of making games by doing a bad game Which is what they do now a bad open-world game that you pay for forever and etc. Yeah I don't want that either do the Mad Max game like you did Do that speaking of do we talk about that? So oh yeah, it was an interview with with George Miller
Can you leave it and and he he recently met with your dayo Kojima of Metal Gear Solid fame? Oh my god And uh and someone said would you like to make a game with your dayo Kojima Mad Max game? And I think George Miller said and I don't have the quote. He said something like We didn't we didn't we didn't have a great result with the Mad Max game. Yeah, and a lot of people
He's not happy with it. Yeah, and a lot of people were like how dare you. Yeah, but also like he would never have played it He means in terms of like what he wanted to do didn't happen and probably also in terms of sales Because it did okay probably that game Yeah, and as I understand it there was a big there was a big disconnect between what The producers of the game wanted to do and what they would
It's told to do and then they made what they would told to do and then they're like why'd you make this? Yeah We didn't ask but I mean we did ask for this. Yeah, it's good though If you're looking for like an open-mode game where there doesn't like Show you with micro transactions, but you can do the Batman combat and you go to car and you upgrade the car There's a guy in the car and he goes he he he and look I I
Had didn't play it at the time. Yeah, but I've seen it running now and it looks as good as a game. Yep pretty much can You know, it looks good looks and plays as well as you'd want it to yeah Yeah, there's a certain point where the the graphical fidelity doesn't really matter and it just looks really good and Seems to play very well, sir. We looked it on never go back if you want to do sandwich.co
We did like an hour dedicated to the Mad Max games. Mm-hmm. All right anyway good good. It's good to watch a good movie

All right, do we move it along? Let's move it along to what though what we read what we gonna read what yeah, I'm doing nothing What hello Have you been reading and doing and watching I haven't started reading it yet, but I got it. That's right This is called what we gonna read also exactly that we've found the loophole and that get us figured it out
Actually, I did I did read one thing and I'm about to read another thing. They're linked they're inexplicably how do you do it people often ask you? I assume yeah, how do you do it? How do you do it all what do you do what you do it caffeine mostly? Yeah, yeah, you're would you say you're a caffeine?
No, it's not a real word. No, you wouldn't say that. I'd say if I don't have a lot of caffeine every day. I'll die. Okay. I would say that Ah, but I got I got two volumes of the big book of cyberpunk, which is an enormous anthology of like cyberpunk short stories and and and and all sorts of bits and pieces ah just like just really a bunch of like fundamental like cyberpunk media that isn't like the the very like you know the stuff you would know like it's not it's not anything like
you know William Gibson or Bruce sterling's like major works that you'd already know there's some like There's some like hidden gems that are like quintessential to that genre right okay. Yeah, there's a jenel moneye story in there. Oh really that she wrote yeah. Oh okay. Yeah, there's all sorts of stuff in there. It's huge It's huge and it's got like um, I don't know just just just just good stuff. Okay. Yeah, I think but I'm looking forward to it
It's gonna take me a while to get through it. I think yeah Uh, cuz they're like 700 pages each so there's a show that came on HBO in max called scavengers rain last year Okay, I think it might be coming to netflix I'm really and that's a cyberpunk. He's something okay. Right. Lipstick maybe whatever and the other thing I'm gonna say is
Link to it. I'm like I'm a I should probably you know check out like a like a some audiobooks. Yeah, and there's a I think it must be a Newish version of the William Gibson classic neuromancer that is um it's narrated by um Uh, oh Tom Bombadou no Jason Fleming. Oh from uh dim to whatever that he played um Yes, mr. Hyde. Yes Among other things, but he's probably most uh famously for being in uh, you know, yeah, you're you're guy Richie
Yeah, type stuff and Alex J and easy and Alex is a big top hat. Yeah, yeah, yeah, okay cool. Yeah, I watch two horror movies Oh, yes, one was Abigail, which is about a child vampire. Uh, I was like this reminds me of the movie ready or not Oh, yes, and it's the same directors That makes sense. I enjoyed it a lot of fun
A little girl vampire gets loose in a kind of a spooky little house. The juice is loose The juice is loose and then so a group of uh like mercenaries who were Who are contracted to kidnapper realize oh, this is a vampire situation
And we're gonna have to kill a little vampire. Okay, uh, I enjoyed it a lot and I also watched uh I also a horror movie but very different in tone immaculate which is the Sydney Swainy story Where it um without spoiling it if you haven't seen it it does feel like it's it's like your own men It's kind of like a spiritual kind of successor to the omen It's like a demonic kind of birth and cult and all these kinds of things happening And it but it's not what I
thought it was. Oh, that's a of the interesting kind of Twist on what I Thought was kind of a standard kind of you've got a demon baby inside you whatever It's also nuns on the run. It's also nuns on the run and then it blends into six sister act two Wow and father of the bride. It's all the same universe. No original stories anymore. I agree But uh, I enjoyed both of those immensely um and that gets more upsetting by like
Okay, interesting much more upsetting. I would love to talk about it in depth but I won't Because you should watch it and then maybe I'll watch it and then we can talk about another time. All right cool That sounds good. Yeah, we're doing a macular episode. I mean every week we do in a macular episode of this podcast Yeah, because you're a caffeine No, no, no, no real word hashtag caffeine. That's neat. It's not gonna work. It's already working
Mason. Yes, um, what's the next segment of the show is that the letter's second? It is actually god damn You didn't give me a chance to do a big reveal there people are gonna be shocked. Okay, you could you could do your reveal It's the letters theme. Wow, and he's the letters theme. How does he do it? It's a caffeine I gotta hear right now we're gonna do letters Send us a letter letter hashtag weekly planet pod on Twitter weekly planet pod admr.com. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
I got one here from sunshine to the in the fun shine. I love hashtag weekly fun at pod Do either of you speak any foreign languages and just for fun These could you please give us your best American accent James unintentionally did give a hint of one and the Santa pretty good Oh, I could maybe do it if I had to somebody said something to me. I might be able to power it up back to them But I couldn't I'm in a mocking. Yeah, I couldn't just do it. Okay. Well, could you could you mock this person?
Um, hey, Maldon. Yeah, just a first sentence. Oh, good. I might No way American accent. Oh, yeah. What was that one that I did then that was Australia? Was that my regular voice that was your regular voice yes Uh, do you do either of you speak any foreign language? No, I can't do it. No, I can't do it. Do we speak any foreign languages?
I know we know it went when we were going to school We had to learn Italian first and then I was I was forced to learn Italian for a bit Which I didn't and I was forced to learn Indonesian for a bit which I didn't uh, and I speak no foreign languages The closest I ever got was when I lived in Tanzania. I spoke a little bit of Swahili. Interesting That's all gone and I do a fun Swahili accent. Yeah, absolutely. Here it is Get out mate And but I've lot but Claire has a really good earful languages
So she got much better than me and she yeah, she can pick up on that kind of stuff. Yeah, interesting Okay, uh, no and I've I get frustrated by it as well Like it it's a really like a noise me that I'm so stupid So that makes me go fight. I won't even do it there. I don't even want to learn it
So I didn't Italian and then I did Japanese. I'm a me. Yeah, but I'm for thank you. That is good Japanese, but um I don't know about anybody else, but if I don't keep up with it, continue or say it's gone completely
It's absolutely gone. So any of those apps work the people say like a duo lingua or babble Someone told me there's a better app than duo lingua duo lingua is only really good for for having two lingos Having two lingos like it's good for vocab but it's not really good for conversations or something along those lines No, I think there's a better app than duo lingua unless duo lingua want to pay us in which case it's the best I read you a leaper If you wanted to pass that'd be fine. Thank you
Hey, have you heard of pop sensation duo leaper? I Haven't but if she wants to pay if she wants to pass. Yeah, that's fine. Yeah, I don't know any of us She's one of those artists like Taylor Swift I don't know any of her songs off the top of my head But if you went you heard this song. Yeah, I would go. Yeah, I have actually have a baby soundtrack I've heard it in a I've heard it in a shopping center. Yeah, absolutely. Well, what a gift what a gift exactly
What's yours, Mason? Here's a couple of emails. Mm-hmm. Uh This one is from Russell Russell dear James and Mesa. What's the greatest comedian to dramatic turn ever? Brian Cranston and Woody Harrelson might be the obvious choices I say Hugh Laurie should get special praise as well. Yeah, I mean he did house, but this is Russell and then it says William So I don't know what's going on. Okay. Well eyes robin Williams
Rob Williams. Yeah, Jim Carrey the good comedic turn bill bur bill bur in the course of the Mandalorian Is he down other? Breaking bad. Of course. Yeah, that would be mine. I think Bill Hader Bill Hader Barry. Yeah, which is still very funny. Yeah, but um
Yeah, I don't know. There's a lot of comedians that have a good grasp of the dramatic. I don't know what's going on there I don't know why it's that's If it always feels to me like a dramatic actor that's turned comedic feels less authentic than a comedic actor feels bad It feels bad. It feels like they're not naturally good at that. That's exactly right. Yeah, it was awful when they do it. Yeah, why takes bill bur
He's good. I do like bill bur good and authentic he feels yeah, absolutely. But anybody better than that better than bill bur Yeah Randy Newman Sing a song right a Randy Newman. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. What's one that you think hasn't worked where they tried to do like a Like a Tony. I like this is a working tea breath I really think there's not many examples of that. I think Jim Carrey's still good, isn't he?
That's what I mean like I mean the Truman show was like I mean, it's got elements of unit to it But it's pretty toned down to what he was doing at that time. Yeah, yeah, the majestic. He was probably very good Probably good in the number third number third number 23 or whatever was sonic two sonic two is a good tone for him Yeah, kick ass to all the two all the toes. Yeah, all the ones and two's all the ones and twos But I think probably the most famous example is like robbermoeums
I would say absolutely. Yeah, yeah, dead parts of society and then The one worries a robot because it's the darkness within him. Yeah, yeah, I think it might be. Yeah Yeah, I don't know. I think they have an eye they like an if a improv and timing and You know like observing mannerisms and the flow of things and I don't know I'm neither I'm not an actor or a comedian. So I don't know anything. That's right. Yeah. I only do this podcast
But god damn is it good? It's like yeah as we've mentioned this from Mike Steve who says I know James is already a huge fan of anime It's true. That is true. But as this is anime adjacent I'll the last Edmendo one if you've seen blue-eyed samurai the whole thing is beautiful and the story is excellent one for the
What what we reading for sure? Yeah, I need to watch I watched some of it night. Yeah Okay, I'll do you know life got in the way I'll do it if you had to talk about god in the way and after what's the acolyte soon? Which is apparently good all the first screenings are like this is that was like you've never seen Because I can't see anything. It's so dark. What is it? Yeah, well, so being it big because it was good. Nope. Nice is dark
And it's right. Yeah, I will watch that and I'll also watch the other one I said I'd watch Bloody it's based on the other video game thing and whatever you know the one 3d one I can yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah What else ma'am isn't email from Sam Sam hey y'all hey y'all from Texas you wouldn't believe it. Howdy
That was my American accent by the way. Yeah, cool. That's good I know you don't usually cover reality TV game shows or panel shows But it seems like you have a lot of friends and colleagues in the Australian comedy scene So I was wondering if you watch taskmaster in the OG British version or the NZ Australian version Yeah, there's a new season out now. It's got a friend will Anderson isn't it? Oh, yeah I've never seen a single second of it
And there are clips of it like and I know people who are in it. Yeah, and on it But no, I don't I just I don't know when anything is on here either. Yes. I'm I don't know I don't know where to watch it. Yeah, I don't tend play there. You don't want to download that you could have download it I'm not gonna do it. I don't know. Glacinized it. Yeah, yeah
Yeah, it's a good that's a good that's a good. That's a good lineup man. Yeah, everybody's very good. I don't know There's a certain I get I have a sir Australia has what we call cultural cringe We hate our own stuff and we also hate we also have something called tall poppy syndrome Which is where any we go we we're or anybody's too popular. We like no they suck actually. Yes They're bad. They're bad for being talented and successful
So I guess there is that barrier. I'm always like I don't know man. Yeah. Oh Yeah, but we should I mean it's apparently it's good right? Yeah, and they're gonna like people Who are in this yeah? Yeah, yeah? All right. What what is it? What's it about? I think they have to I think they have to perform various wacky tasks
That's fun. Yeah love mastering tasks right pretty good Sam also says I just wanted to say in general that I love he shows perspective on movies and TV Not just as art storytelling, but as an intricate industry There are plenty of youtubers and podcasts as I talk about law theories and Easter eggs
So love having you talk more inside baseball about why and how things get made also we don't know we don't know See that's the thing I this this is it I know but we don't I say from that conversation from earlier where I'm like
Yeah, we don't know where we're speculating as much as everybody else. I don't know but um I don't know we've all had managers I suppose is the is the our only insight is we all have managers and we go A manager ruined this We know we know we'll see that real life If you if you apply that to every industry you'll if something goes wrong, you know it's because a manager Yeah, that's right. They got none they then they get promoted and you get fired. That's exactly right
That's happened to me a couple of times. It's cool. Yeah, I liked it. Yeah, that was good I got one here from one more from Tom server was my spirit bot. Oh, it says fuck you James Martini's fucking rule By the way, how's that with your planet pot? Okay, you're right. Yeah Yeah, and you're drunk then you obviously That's someone who's had too many white wines completely
I'm a genius. I'm gonna tell everyone up and up and up and up. I'm gonna email you in I don't even know the last time I've even had a martini I may have even only had a super one. I'm in like yak and off for me And that's my whole perception of martinis Just the idea of those two like the clear the clear liquors in it and I'm just like no. How could this be anything? Wow Yeah, but you know if you get if you go on the more expensive side things it get a lot smoother. Okay
Apparently wow is this your pitch to be the new James Bond just let me do it. I'll do my American accent. That's right Yeah, man Man martini suck unless there and then you whatever the brand deal is yeah, you know the rocks to kill I would like that To kill a martini He's one of where you know from Leo Leo In Leo says hi, I used to work for Scott Rudin and currently work for WBD. That's one of brothers discovery I'm Scott Rudin. I don't know you should google it. I will spell it. Are you DIN?
Scott is normal Scott Rudin And I wanted to chime in on the Phoebe Waller bridge question. So last episode we talked about how Phoebe Waller bridge had a $60 million with deal with Amazon. Oh, he's a producer. But we like what does that mean? It's got Rudin is a yeah, brood producer anyway a $60 million overhead deal means Amazon gives her production company That much over some period of time to develop stuff and then Amazon has the rights to any project developed under the deal
So if her company bought the rights to mr. Mrs. Smith to develop and then dropped it Amazon can then take it over and just produce it. Oh, okay. Sometimes depending on how big the producer star is They have the right to take the project somewhere else as long as the company you cut the overhead deal gets a piece of the project moving forward A lot of it is basically a scam to have an insane amount of money moving in big producer star circles to keep big ego people happy and loyal or something
A very cynical POV, but that's me. That's from Leo. That doesn't sound too cynical That just sounds what it is sound like manages. Yeah, well, it's big managers to Scott Rudin Monty's Wikipedia and and there's a big section here. It says something. What's this say misconduct allegations? Rudin was called the most feared man in town. Oh, he must be very scary because he's notoriously hot-tempered. Oh Love guys like this. Just like I'm an angry guy. That's my personality
You fucking suck. Yeah, how about try that in anywhere other than Hollywood where everybody sucks up to and help beat you up as that sounds Scott Come to Melbourne and try it in the line outside revolver see how far you get Try to an AC DC. Anyone that the guts Mason. I wouldn't yeah Yeah, try it at the totes. They'll kill you. They'll kill you at the toe
Now stuff you in a bin out the back. Why are people like that? I don't know. Try it outside flintestreet station under the clock. Scott Rudin Yeah, we'll twist your head off No, it's not even tough. No, it's tougher than Hollywood
Oh man Scott Rudin. Yeah, he's a rude dude. Yeah, good for him. Well, he's one of the 19 people who wanted he got Wow good for him demonstrated a long-standing pattern of abusive behavior towards him employees including physical abuse such as throwing objects into his assistance and one time
uh breaking an assistance hand with a computer monitor in an article who is also Gusef having victims side non-dispiragement agreements and having the victims film credits increased or retroactively decreased after quitting Interesting. I don't know. I feel like also a guy like that one day someone's just You're gonna they're gonna cave your fucking head in yeah, you're gonna push the wrong person
And they're gonna pick up a computer monitor and they're gonna kill you with it. Yeah, so just bear that in mind Oh, cool stuff cool stuff folks that is the whole show. What are we gonna do next week? Well, maybe we could do those deals that didn't deal like the the big deals that they got for the yeah big deals And then they never made you think we do the money.
