Episode description

Here's my clarification on this.

I think there are some misconceptions out there about doing what you want vs doing what is aligned.  Getting uncomfortable to push yourself for growth vs saying I hate doing something you've never tried. We feel called for radical responsibility and that will always be doing what I want, even if it's for my future self and not my current self.

So I want to clarify something. Let's start there. Let's clarify something. So I know that we see so many business owners, even me, I have said this, that I changed my business, I do things that are more aligned, or I do things that I want to do. I stopped doing sales calls, because it never felt aligned for me. And, you know, I live this business life that I love, right? Like I created the business by design and created my life by design. But we want to make sure that we're not

forgetting something here. And that is, I don't want to do the things every single day. I don't want to be consistent every single day, there are days when I would rather just lay in bed or I have a headache, or I don't feel good, or I feel like I have to choose between going to the gym and running my business, which is so not true. It's just a lie to myself. But going back to the gym, this week was a really big eye opener, because I

didn't want to go the gym. Like, for real, I didn't want to go the gym, I had no desire to go to the gym. That doesn't mean I'm not gonna go, I didn't want to feel sore, I didn't want to feel the pain, I didn't want to get gym clothes on and actually drive to the gym, like, all these things that I love the feeling after I love the results after. But I did not love the

actual action. And I want to, you know, make this clear when it comes to showing up and being visible and putting out amazing content and being consistent. Yes, most of the time, I'm okay doing those things, right. And the thing is, is that when I remind myself up here, of why I'm passionate about this, it makes the showing up, it makes the content, it makes the visibility it makes all of those things come together, and it makes them so much easier. The problem is, is that we don't

always feel the passion. We don't always feel the warm and fuzzies we don't always feel those things in our business, right? Like, sometimes we have to reconnect with our with whether you want to call your passion or your why right, we have to reconnect and remember why we're doing this right. Sometimes we do show up, and we go through the motions. But the thing that I want you to know is that if I or any other coach or mentor says, I created this business, I don't do things I

don't want to do. That's not 100% True. Because we all do things that we don't want to do, because we all have a bigger purpose or goal or Y or whatever you want to call it right? And so those those passions, lead my consistency. Those passions lead my radical responsibility for the things I should do. Those passions lead me to be visible and pull me to be visible pull me again on video more pull me

to do the things. Pull me to create more short form video pull me to create more podcast episodes because it's my message even if it isn't my face, right? So I just want to make sure we're being very clear that I do things all the time. I don't want to do it is not this life of luxury, that Chrissy is in Hawaii all the time, and never does anything she wants to do or doesn't want to do. Right. Now, were there times that I have been on my I don't know, eight vacations that I didn't want to

do any any work? Yes, there were. But again, I check myself. I remind myself, I dig deep into this isn't about me. And I think that's the other thing. The ego part of us is the one who doesn't want to do this stuff. Let's be honest. The passion part of us is the person who wants to do the things because it's not about us, not about me. It's not about you, right. For me, it's about you. But for you,

it's about your person. And so I think we get to remember that that sometimes ego gets in the way because ego doesn't want to do anything or ego wants to be lazy or ego wants to just not do this today because it seems like it's going to be a little bit more difficult. And the passion is the thing that over like overrules or Trump's or whatever you want to call it. The ego. It's like I used to say I would have never gotten on video for myself, right? Yes, at first it was from myself like getting

over that fear. But then it wasn't about me anymore. Because I kept using my fears as my excuse it was about me. If I use my passion as the reason it wasn't about me. And so that's how I have differentiated the two. And it was really funny. I'm never going to remember which one he said, but I was I'm really listening to high

performance habits. And Brendon Burchard even says that like, Are you are you if you're not gonna do it for yourself, do it for your wife, do it for your passion, do it for someone else, because we are more likely, as humans to not let somebody else down. Before we'll let ourselves down. It's kind of like, it's I'm always gonna go back to working out because it's always hard, and it has so many correlations with business. But technically, you will normally be more consistent and stay with

it and stick with it. If you have an accountability partner, right? When it comes to going to the gym, or eating healthy. That's why accountability is so important. The same thing is true in business too. Like, you're more likely to create a more successful business, if you have a mentor there that can keep you accountable. Well, you said you were gonna do this, did you do it? Right? Kind of

situation. So I want you to think about like, obviously, if you don't want to do sales calls or something like that, like this is how I'm going to talk to people want to talk to people this way, you can absolutely do that. Let me be clear. But sometimes, like getting on video back in the day, I didn't want to do it. Let me be honest, I did not want to do it. But it was a huge fear of mine. And many of you may have heard this story. But I used to say video

changed my life. But getting uncomfortable changed my life. Video changed my business. And so I want you to just look at whatever the thing is, is that you don't want to do or you hate doing Have you actually even tried to do it. First of all right? I gave sales calls a try for three years, right? I just wasn't a fan. And and so I realized nobody really everybody that's bought from me didn't I've never actually talked to them. They just joined my

programs. Why am I even making this, like a requirement that I have to do a sales call also, we just augment the word sales call just sounds so disgusting. So gross. But anyhow, moving on. So what I found was that we can not like something. But until we've tried to be consistent with it, we really can't say I hate that, right, because we've actually never done it. I could say I hated video. But really, video was a fear, it was totally a fear thing. And so once I got uncomfortable and stretched

myself, by the way. Also, nobody wants to be uncomfortable. I 100% admit that. In my first business. I loved being comfortable. I didn't want to do any of these things that my best friend wanted me to do at the time, I had no desire to go to Shark Tank, I had no desire to do all these things that she thought she was going to put us through because I was comfortable. Like I felt safe off of camera. And I felt safe in my little bubble. And I felt safe making no money. Not

really. But that's what I told myself, right. And so we can spin anything to make it work for us. But if something is nagging you that in the back of your mind, like you should be doing this is typically an indicator of what you should be doing. Video was always in the back of my mind, you should get on video should get on video, you should get on video, right? I'm not saying you have to be on video as much as I am. I'm on video a lot. I also cheat a lot or whatever you want to call it.

I repurpose like a crap ton of content, right? Because I have it. And I can do that. But if you were just willing to start with one thing. And I know I get this question about consistency all the time. Yes, I'm going to be consistent every single day, at least Monday through Friday, probably Saturday and Sunday, too. However, you just have to start, you get to start. And then you get to add on another consistent action. Maybe it's once a week, then it's twice a week that it's three times a

week, right? So you just get the start to see how it feels to see how you move through it to see how you get over those uncomfortable fears that you have right? I realized that I don't love getting on video, right I get on video because it's the best way to deliver my message. It's the best way for you to see who I am to see if you think I'm the person for you or I'm the person you want to learn from. And you can identify that so much better and quicker in a video than you can on a post I type.

You see the sincerity you see the passion? You see that I'm a real person Sin, right? Not like an avatar, I'm a real person. You see that I am imperfect. And I say I'm in my videos, you see that? I make a lot of mistakes, you see that? I riff and get off topic, and you see all these things, right. And you realize this is a real human being who isn't overproduced and who I can connect with. Or maybe I'm annoying, and you keep moving,

right? And that's okay, too. We all are allowed to attract and repel the people who are watching us on social media. I'm not for everybody. And everybody's not for me. And that's the same with YouTube. As I get off topic, but I do just want to make sure that the message that we're sending that I just do what I want to do, I don't do what I don't want to do, blah, blah, blah, that's not 100% True. But there are things in our business that we can exchange, right? If we no longer

want to do sales calls. And we know people are going to ask us questions in the DM or do audio in the DMS, we know that's possible, right? If you don't want to do create a mastermind, but you want to just sell already created programs, you can do that. Like there are no rules as far as that goes. But there are, there's no rules. There's no rules. But we all know that consistent beats, consistent actions, beat talent, consistent actions, beat luck, consistent actions, beat

vestment best intentions. And so even though I don't want to always be consistent, and I don't always want to show up, my passion is always going to lead me in the right direction. Because my passion gives me that radical responsibility that I know that I get to do because it's not about me. It's about you. So I hope that makes sense. I hope that clears up the hole. I can I do what I want to only when I want to blah, blah, blah,

conversation. And you can still create a business that you design, you can still do the things that you want to do. But there are just some times in business that we don't want to do things. And I'm not gonna sit here and deny that there's times I don't want to show up or I can't think of what to say, I have the same problems you do. And it's okay. We all get to overcome that we all get to work through that. And really quick,

I did a tic toc. That was I don't remember what the song was, that was basically talking about like, not doing was I'm not doing that. And I was oh, well, if I could do it for you. I would and so like if I could get visible if I could do all these things for you? I would but the problem is, is that all those things I didn't want to do. It brought growth, you brought so much growth. And I would never rob you of that growth. And it's the same thing when we don't want to do

something. It's like, what is it integrity, it's doing the right thing, even when nobody's watching. So whether anybody's watching this video or not. It's an entire it's, it's integral for me to say, I'm getting on video, it's integral for me to do it. Right. That is integrity to me. And so whether I get a like whether I get a comment, whether I get a view, I'm still showing up, because I know that somewhere some way somehow somebody is going to see this message and they needed to hear

it today. And it's okay if it's just one person. I'm not here to take over the world. I'm only here to take over those or to help those people take over to help those people that really need support and and know that visibility is their path and know that they can do more to show up for themselves and their business and the people that they're trying to serve.
