Hi, this is Stephanie Maas, partner with Thinking Ahead search firm. I was at a conference a couple weeks ago and heard a really neat speaker talk about goal setting and getting things off on the right foot for the year. So I decided to bring it back and share it with you. Their advice was you got to have a strong start to your year. You can always have a strong finish, but your year will always be okay unless you have both a strong start and a strong finish.
So here was their advice for a strong start. Number one, you got to have a goal and you got to write it down. Any goal setting book, Website, speaker, whatever will tell you, you got to have one and you got to write it down. Second thing, the difference between a goal and a dream is one has a plan. A dream is just that, it's a dream. A goal is a dream with a plan. So how are you going to accomplish that goal? And again, I recommend writing it down. The third piece is action.
You gotta take action. Most of the time, it is not big, huge, boulder sized actions that make a difference. It's everyday, itty bitty little decisions that ultimately have boulder like effects. So set a goal. Make a plan. Take action. What you will find at the end of the year is the execution. All thanks to a strong start. Also, what happens is you make no excuses and you have no regrets regardless of where you actually end up in achieving your goal.
