<- Back to Episodes Tim Brookins - Corinthian Wisdom Tim Brookins, Associate Professor of Classics at Houston Baptist University, talks with David Capes regarding his book, Corinthian Wisdom, Stoic Philosophy, and the Ancient Economy (SNTS Monograph Series 159: Cambridge University Press, 2014.  He challenges recent scholarship and makes the claim that "the wise man" of 1 Corinthians is not a person of rhetorical prowess but a philosopher with a bent toward Stoicism.  They talk about the value of mirror-readings in biblical letters and the prevalence of Corinthian slogans in Paul’s letter.
