Episode description

Uyen Luu was 5 years old when she came to London in the early 80s with her mother and brother as refugees from post war Vietnam. After graduating, she was awarded a grant from The Arts Council Of England to return to Vietnam for the first time and make a 16mm documentary film about going home, Phở - (Noodle Soup). It was only that the Vietnamese nights became so popular she then became known for hosting home-cooked Vietnamese every weekend in her flat for many people on Fridays and Saturdays. Uyen wrote her first book My Vietnamese Kitchen in 2013. Since having her daughter, Uyen has hosted the supper clubs and Vietnamese cooking classes at her photography studio in Hackney.
