Listen to This Before You Outsource
Episode description
Outsourcing has been on my mind lately. As my content output increases and my project roster fills up, demands on my time will make outsourcing a necessity.
But when should I do it?
For me it’s a simple answer. Largely because this is as much a learning journey as it is to build a business and brand, I will only outsource when I feel I’ve reached a proficiency in the task I’m considering outsourcing.
I want to learn how to do a thing thoroughly before outsourcing it so I know what I’m actually outsourcing and whether it’s something I need in the first place. The process as much as the task itself is something I want to have a grasp of and if I outsource before that, then I may end up paying for services that’s not even needed in the first place.
Moreover, if I outsource something before learning it, I can’t rightly teach that thing as part of my provides. How can I teach something I haven’t learned and done? The only honest way to teach it would then be to teach to outsource it. This of course creates a barrier for my students who don’t have working budgets.
So my suggestion:
Do as much as you can for as long as you can for free. Outsource once you’ve gained proficiency and the demand for your time is needed elsewhere to expand into the next phase of growth in your business.
