So I want to dedicate today's introduction to all of those over achievers out there. In addition, share a quick story with you that is both embarrassing, and also very, very true and reveals a lot about who I am. So if you've been around here for a while, you know that last October, October 2020, I got Invisalign, and I try to take them out whenever I'm recording, because
it just bothers me. Like, it's not anything to do that, you know, I'm like, Oh, I don't like the way I sound like it just it just bothered me, because I'm like, oh, it gives me a lisp. And there's like, a lot of other reasons. It's kind of uncomfortable to speak and like a natural normal tone, like I don't have them in right now. And I
took them out, and I take them out very often. And y'all, if you've been around here, you know, I do lots of podcasts, I do lots of YouTube videos, and just all the things right, like, I'm always using my mouth. And I've been dinged a few times. So this is this is kind of funny. If if you've got had Invisalign, if you've done this, like you're nodding along, and you're like, I know exactly what you're talking about. But you do these like scans, they give you this little like, contraption
thing I like put my phone in it. And then like it takes pictures of my mouth. And then it'll say, Okay, awesome, looks fantastic, you can move on to the next set of trays that you have. Or, to my dismay, I found out that if you don't wear them often enough, then you'll get a message back that says, oh, sorry, you need to wear these for like a few more days until you and you want to talk about like rejection. For an enneagram. Three, I'm like,
I'm doing something wrong. I'm not achieving my goal, what the goal was to wear these liners for a week and then move on to the next one, right? Like I had this whole idea in my head, like, I'm gonna be the best Invisalign patient anyone's ever had. I'm going to get through it in record time. And I'm going to y'all, these are the things that I should be embarrassed to say out loud to other
people. But I'm telling you, y'all are my peeps, and you understand, and the whole reason why you're like Krystal, can we just get on with what you're talking about? The reason why I was bringing this up today is because I debated I'm like, you know what, I just need to wear them when I'm recording, I need to wear them when I'm recording all the time. So I'll get used to them. And I just I couldn't do it. I had literally took them out a second before I started recording the
podcast today. So if you have Invisalign, and you're like, should I wear him near my podcast? Should you not then just maybe don't podcasts as much as I do, and just take them out when you're recording and then put them back in. So anyway, we're gonna do a deep dive into stats and what I have found from all of my content, we're gonna look at my YouTube and my podcast. And I found some really interesting things about this audience that I want to share with you here today. So let's
get right to it. Welcome to the Proffitt Podcast where we teach entrepreneurs how to start launch and market their podcast. I'm your host, Krystal, Proffitt, and I'm so excited that you're here. Thanks for hanging out with me today. Because if you've been trying to figure out the world of podcasting, think of this show as the time saving shortcut you've been looking for. So let's get right to it, shall we?
Alright, so I'm like, really excited, because what I do typically, at the end of a month, I will look at what content has performed better than others. And what is like, Oh, that's a definite red flag that I should never create content like that, again, because it was a total flop, right? I don't like to do this on a yearly basis or even a quarterly basis, because I think that it needs to be done. I mean, honestly, I would dig into the information every single
week. But that's not realistic, because it doesn't give people time to catch up. And you know, listen to podcast episodes. If you've ever gone on vacation, or you've been out of town, and then like or just even had something in your life. You're just like, man, I just can't listen to podcast, I can't watch the YouTube videos, I can't catch up on my email, all the things we've all been there, right. So I understand that. That's
how this audience operates. So I say okay, I'm going to look at my information at least once a month and do kind of a deep dive. And I've been doing this a lot more often, especially on my YouTube channel as it's grown a lot in the last few months. And I've been doing this with the podcast ever since I've been podcasting. So I like to look at it at least once a month, kind of gauge like Well, what's going on what's performing the
best and where can I improve? Where can I kind of pivot the content or should I just keep going like trucking along. Keep doing what I'm doing.
So, I'm going to tell you a few trends that I've seen that appear both in YouTube and on the podcast that I find really interesting. Because the insights I'm going to share with you are really one for you to kind of know behind the scenes, how I look at my information and make some, you know, kind of inferences or figure out what I'm going to do with the numbers, right? Because it mean, if you're just looking at all the stats and figures, and you're like, I don't even
know what to do with this information. Well, hopefully, you'll get a little bit of insight of how I use all the numbers and everything. But also, I want you to find patterns, I think it's important to look at, well, what do people really want to hear from me. And if you're just getting started, this takes time, right? Like, I have been doing YouTube steadily for almost two years. And I have been doing the podcast since I mean, it's crazy, we're coming up on three years of doing it
like non stop. And when I say like doing it, I mean, putting out lots of episodes, lots of videos on YouTube. And because I've put out so much content, there's a lot of information that I can read. So if you're just getting started, I would give yourself at least six months to really have some information on if you just launched this month. That's fantastic. Congratulations, I'm so excited for you. But you really won't have a ton
of information. Just because you just won't have the numbers you won't have like a good enough ability to look at what's trending, what's working with your audience. So I would give yourself at least three, if not six months, before you go on a really deep dive into your podcast information or YouTube or even your social media. That way you can kind of measure, you know, good things take
time. And it takes time to build things. But once you get things going and everything's kind of working, then you can see what is working and what is maybe not performing as well. So if you've been listening to this podcast for a while, you know, the motto around here is we talk about start launch and market. Right. Those are the three pillars of Proffitt podcasting, profit media, like the profit podcast, like everything, that is what
we talk about, start launch and market. But I have noticed a place that we may actually very soon in the near future, don't worry, like I'm not, I'm not announcing some big huge thing that's going to revolutionize podcasting, none of that. But I do see a lot of my content shifting in the future, more towards the solo podcaster. And there's a
reason why. So I wanted to tell you upfront, right, I'm not gonna sit here and like leave you in suspense of like, Oh my god, would you just tell us what she's talking about already?
Okay, so solo podcasting, is something that's very popular among my content, very, very popular. And it's an opportunity for me to get more specific and show up to help podcasters right, we're always asking how can you differentiate what you do? Like let's say you're a life coach, right? How can I differentiate my life
coaching services versus someone else? Well, maybe you specialize in something, maybe you specialize in helping life coaches, or sorry, life coaching clients, that are moms between the ages of this and that who you know, have a part time job or they have a full time job, or they have to work from home like, right, like this is how you niche down. And I've started really broad with podcasting. But then I niched it down to podcasting, helping entrepreneurs and small
business owners. And now I really see an opportunity for me to niche down even more, and
help solo podcasters. Now, this doesn't mean that I'm like, leaving out anybody that wants to do interviews, but it is an opportunity for me to create more content around helping solo podcasters because to be honest, I think solo podcasts are a lot more challenging than interviews, because with an interview, you're relying on other people, right, like you kind of have like, okay, I just got to come up with the questions, have them show up. There's a lot of logistical things that are a
lot more complicated with interviews. But once you get on the call, usually you can feed off someone else's energy and just a conversation and you're recording it and you know, it could be good or bad. But then you can always try get next week and have different interviews. But with solo podcast, I see a lot of people that are terrified, terrified, terrified, terrified to be in a room by themselves. Talking into a microphone. I see this
I had the same same exact challenge. So I believe that's why my content around solo podcasts are very popular. And I wanted to actually dig into the numbers a little bit to show you what I'm talking about, like where I came to this conclusion. So first and foremost, I look at my YouTube right and I was sharing on the potty report. So if you don't know that is my daily podcast, you should go check it out. Yes, I
podcast Monday through Friday. It's five minutes or less like little quick hits of podcast information behind the scenes. I'll share all kinds of personal things on there that are going on behind the scenes that I don't always share here on this podcast. Because I like to keep things straight to the point. And on that one, I do a lot more rants in venting and just sharing some really weird quirky things about me. So if you want to check that out, it'll be in the show
notes. KrystalProffitt.com/Episode233, is where you're gonna find all the things that we're talking about today. But I did a deep dive on my
YouTube Insights. And I actually, if anybody's ever done YouTube, or if you're new to YouTube, and you've only been using it for a while, or you're like, Where did I even find this information, you go into your YouTube Creator Studio, and I just selected the lifetime, I wanted to know over the lifetime of my entire channel, how have videos performed, and then I sorted it to just look at the top 10 videos. So this is what I'm not looking at every single video I've ever
created. I'm really focusing in and zoning in on my top 10 videos, and there are 440 percent, okay, 40% of my top 10 pieces of content are dedicated to solo podcast. And just for fun, I wanted to see what how many views is that of my top four videos, the top four videos that are about so well podcasts have been viewed more than 30,000 times 30,000 times. And this just kind of blew my mind. Like whenever I looked at this is what I'm talking about looking at your data and like you're trying
to figure out, well, how do I read this? What does this really mean? It's totally interpretive and subjective into how you want to read it. Right. So for me, I wanted to get a perspective on like, well, how much of an impact is so low podcasting on my channel. And I didn't sort by ever single because I have a ton of videos on solo podcasting, I wanted to look at the most popular videos on my channel. And of all of like, as of right now as I'm recording this because I know it'll change in
the future. But as of right now, I have around 112,000 views for my YouTube channel. And 30 30,000 views are dedicated to these four videos, just these four videos. That blew me up. So 27% of all the views across my channel are dedicated to
four videos about solo podcasting. So I mean, and there's a million other ways that I could look at this, I could go back and add up all the numbers for every single solo, you know, podcasts video that I've ever done, but this was just very eye opening to me and my content and the way that I look at it, because another thing with YouTube is, you know, you have how long someone's watching a video. And I can look at these actually have it
pulled up right now. And the average video duration that someone watches these is up to three minutes. And if you're like, that doesn't sound like a lot. That sounds pretty low. Like that's kind of crappy. Why don't people YouTube is a totally different monster and like how people consume content, I don't know, if you've ever, you know, been wondering how to make a recipe or try to do something, and you're like a how to video, you go look it up, and you fast forward through
it. Because you're like, Okay, I don't really care about the backstory about like, just give me the answer. I just want the How to I just want the recipe like just tell me exactly how to do it. So that's really how people consume content on YouTube. But to see that people are consuming up to three minutes of all of these really is eye opening, because a lot of people may only have two minutes that they're watching a video, most of the
videos. So I don't want to get into like a deep dive of YouTube because that's not my expertise. It's not what I teach, but I'm just sharing with you my insights. And to know that there's that many people out there interested in solo podcasting, I can't ignore it. That's really what it comes down to is I can't ignore the fact that people are hungry for this information on how to
be a better solo podcaster. And this is kind of funny, and it's like, it's weird, because I don't want it to sound braggy and like sound like Oh, that was just an opportunity for her to, you know, plug this thing. It kind of is but I want to tell you if you didn't know this, I won the solo podcaster award at the spark Christian podcast conference in February of last year. So I feel like that was kind of the validation like the the
check mark in that. Oh, I really do know what I'm talking about when it comes to solo podcast and how to show up. And create really awesome content as a solo podcaster and not having to just lean on someone else, whether it's a co host or someone that you're interviewing, but being able to just show up as yourself with confidence and being able to create content that people are really looking
for that they're searching for right now. I had to interrupt real fast because I wanted to make sure that if you're listening to all the things right now, all the insights and everything that we're talking about, really kind of leveling up with your podcast and you're interested in seeing how you can take your show to the next level, then I invite you to check out my free masterclass, it's all about how I took my show from struggling to award winning, right? If you remember we talking
about the solo podcast award? Well, I'm going into how I did that with the four insider secrets every podcaster needs to know this is an absolutely free training that I want you to check out. You go to proffittpodcasting.com/now. Proffittpodcasting.com/now to register for this free training. So make sure you go save your seat, get your butt in that masterclass now, because I promise you that there are some insider secrets in there that can help you take your show to the next
level. Okay, let's get back to today's episode. So I just want to throw that out there that I know you're interested in solo podcast, I can see it. The writing is on the wall, the writing is in the information. And I'm just really excited about it. So that's YouTube. Okay, so it's 27% of all the views on my channel are going to these four videos on YouTube and I'm gonna link to them, don't worry, because you're like, what videos are they I
want to go check them out. I'm gonna link to these four videos that I'm talking about in the show notes. So KrystalProffitt.com/Episode233 is where you're gonna find this.
But now I want to shift into the insights for this podcast. So for the profit podcast, there are 10, I wanted to go into the top 10 episodes that I've ever liked the top most downloaded most popular episodes. For this podcast, there are only two, two interview episodes that are the most popular. So let me go in here, clicking around in my stats, so there was one that was about podcast marketing, right? This is my second most downloaded episode. And it was an interview that I did with Alvin from
buzzsprout. So I'll link to that. That's the super it's the second most downloaded episode, because I think people are always wondering about podcasts marketing, how they can get better. And Alvin is he's their Director of Marketing at buzzsprout. Like he knows his stuff when it comes to marketing, especially marketing a podcast, so make sure you go listen to that. But the only other one that had anything to do with anything outside of a solo episode was how does podcast advertising
really work? And these are two hot button questions that I get asked all the time is how does how can I market my podcast? And how does podcast advertising work? So I'm not surprised whatsoever that these are the two most downloaded episodes that I have for the profit podcast. But what did surprise me is not the other episode. Like I've done incredible interviews. on this
show. I've done amazing interviews with incredible entrepreneurs with people that help you with your podcasts help you have a better show help you show up differently for your podcast. But these are the two interviews that made the top 10.
The rest of them are like I mean, I'm just gonna go through and list them all. And I'll have them listed in the show notes. But y'all the office ladies podcast case study is my most downloaded episode. And this blows my mind because for a long time, how does podcast advertising really work was in the top one to two every single month, I would look at it and I know this may change in the future. But as of right now as me recording this, this is where it stands is
it's the office ladies podcast case study. That's number one top most downloaded, which really is funny, and I need to dig into that more because maybe y'all want more case studies. Maybe y'all want me to look at other podcasts and how they've rebranded and how they've changed things because I look at this all the time I do this. Nobody pays me to do that. It's just part of my nerdy nature that I love to see how people rebrand their shows and how they pivot how they do different things.
But I was really surprised to see that this is the top downloaded episodes. If you haven't listened to that one, make sure you go listen to it. But the next one is the podcast marketing the one I did with Alvin. then number three is how to start a podcast. Duh. This is this is obviously one of the most listen two episodes because most people when they first find this podcast and they're brand new to me, they want to know, well, how does Krystal tell people to start a podcast? I want to
know. So that's number three. Number four is the intro to the Prophet podcast. Now, this goes to show that the eight like, what is it the age old adage? Y'all, I'm making up metaphors here. I don't even know if that's how you say that. You know what I mean? You know, what I'm trying to say is what when people say that they go and they find a podcast, and they go all the way back to the beginning and listen to it. That still rings true,
because that is what this is. This is my episode one, episode zero, however you want to think of it. It's basically the trailer that I redid it's my welcome video. It's not a video, but it's my welcome episode of me saying, Hey, welcome to the Prophet podcast. I'm so happy that you're here. Here's what's going on. Because actually, if people started on my real Episode One, they'd be like, wait, what is the rookie life? What is she
talking about? Because if you're brand new here, you didn't know I rebranded this podcast, and I didn't go back and change any of that stuff. We we don't look back, we just keep moving forward. But I can see that that is number four, in my podcast, so people are still listening to that episode, people are still going back. So I want you to think about this. If you've been podcasting for a while, go back and listen to your very first episode and say, What did I say there? Is that
still true today? like did you pivot? Did you rebrand? Did you do something different to where if someone were to listen to that episode, they would say, Wait, what are they talking about? I don't know. She mentioned this, but I don't see that anywhere on her website. Because it's gone. You changed it, but you didn't tell anybody. So I don't often tell people to go back and change their content. But if you have done a total rebrand, at least go back and do some sort of
welcome. Hey, guys, by the way, we rebranded This is how things are different. This is how things are the same. And this is what you're going to learn listening to this show, because people do go back and listen to your very first episode. Okay, that was a long rant. It was a long rant on the intro, but I thought it was really important to talk about that, because people do go back and listen. So that was number four. The fifth most downloaded on this podcast is what is explicit
content for a podcast. What does this mean? And I think that this is interesting, because I don't think that people are going through and scrolling necessarily through my content and saying, Oh, what is this? I think that people are finding, like they're actually typing this in this goes back to SEO, that people are typing in what is explicit content for a podcast, which is exactly why I titled that episode. What is explicit
content? Because I know, I know, y'all, I know that you're searching for these things in that manner, because that's how I search for things whenever I was creating my podcast content for the very first time. So that tells me SEO is working. SEO is you know, it's on my side. And I didn't even get into the Google Analytics for this episode. Maybe we'll do that next time. We do like a podcast insights. But I just know that that is
where a lot of this traffic is coming from. And then we already talked about number six is how does podcast advertising really work? That is a fantastic interview with Anthony savelli. go listen to that. It was so awesome. Because people ask me, well, how does podcast advertising work? How do you work with brands? How do you get a brand deal, how to get a sponsor, if you've been wondering that, go listen to that episode, because
it was so good. Such a fantastic insight into how you can really niche down and set yourself up to work with a brand even if you're just getting started. And monetization isn't even on your mind. This is a great foundation for you to have a good understanding of how it really works, but how you can get it to work for you in the future. Okay, so that was number six. Number seven is a podcast
trailer, what needs to be in it? I think that this is another one that people probably are scrolling the podcast when they find it and they're like, Oh, you know what's what's good here? I'm assuming a lot of these things y'all I haven't had you tell me Oh, this is exactly how I search podcast. I'm assuming you do this a lot in the same way that I do. When you find a brand new podcast and you're like, Oh, I like I like their vibe. I like their tone. Well, what else have they talked about in
the past? And then you stumble upon you're like, oh, wow, she has 200 something episodes about podcasting. What is she even talked about? I'm sure you've asked yourself that. Well, we've literally talked about everything on this show. But yeah, we talked about a podcast trailer that's another one one of the the next one after that is a podcast tagline and how to create it. So that's
another episode. And then the last two are the top mistakes new podcasters make This is actually let me go back over here, because I'm pretty sure that's one of my top. It's top 20. It's in my top 20 videos for YouTube as well. I did the top five mistakes new podcasters make. And we're going to do an episode coming up soon about my repurposing strategy, because a lot of the content that you'll see in the podcast you will see on YouTube, that is intentional. That's not like, Oh, that's a
coincidence. Like, you must have forgot you talked? Nope, that is 100% intentional, because I think it's working smarter and not harder. Whenever you can take your podcast content and repurpose it, whether it's for social media, it's for YouTube, it's somewhere else, whatever the case may be. I think it's very smart to take something that's working that you've seen, like all this information right here, I think it's important, you have to take time to go back and
look at your numbers and see what is working. So you can plan for the future, you can say, Okay, I know I need to talk more about solo podcasts. I know I need to talk more about strategically looking at how you're creating the format of your show. Because y'all are telling me right here, like the numbers don't lie, I can see exactly the type of content that my audience is looking for. This is what you're hungry for. It's what you're searching the internet for. And I want to provide
that to you. I want to be of service to you give you value every single week, y'all This is my passion. It's my life's mission to help you just feel better about podcasting and have more energy. And just to know, okay, I'm on the right track. Alright, so the last top 10 of the profit podcast episodes is how to create my podcast outro. And that's kind of funny that that one ended right here. And we're going to be doing an outro very
soon. But I think that, again, it goes back to the mechanics, like y'all are telling me with your downloads, you know, people will say, will you vote with your dollars, right? Whether it's donations, or like supporting a campaign, or whatever it is, like you vote with your dollars, when people vote with their downloads, they vote with their time they vote with their views on YouTube, like, you're not gonna sit here and listen to this podcast, if it doesn't mean
something to you. Because it's not worth it, y'all. If I started listening to a podcast, I'm like, I don't really care about that, I will turn it off, I won't listen to the whole thing. I'll jump around to something else. I'll turn on some music. I'll watch the office again for the 1,000th time. This is just, this is what your listeners are doing. So I wanted you to walk away from this episode today. One, understanding how I read my stats, how I look at this information and how this
sets me up to plan future content. Because, you know, I'm actually recording this the last week of February, but going into March, I'm already looking at this information now. So I can plan March content so I can plan what I'm going to talk about and concentrate on in quarter two of this year. And I think that it's important that you do this. Like I said, I said this earlier, do it at least once a month. Okay, you don't have to do a super big deep dive like what I did here today.
But at least look at it. Just ask yourself, what are my top five episodes? You don't have to go into top 10? What are my top five or even my top three? What are the top three things that my audience is telling me they're voting with their downloads, they are telling me, this is what we are interested in. This is what we care about. This is why we keep coming back to your show because the numbers don't lie. At the end of the
day. I may be super passionate about one topic like y'all I have created so many podcast episodes, where I'm just like, Oh, this fires me up. And I love it so much. And I can't wait to put this episode out there. And then it falls flat. It does. I've had many times this has happened. But then, like the office ladies, podcast case study, y'all. This is number one. Why is this number one
on this podcast? like this just cracks me up because I'm like, I need to dig deeper into why this continues to be the number one most downloaded episode of this podcast because y'all are trying to tell me something. My audience is telling me something with their downloads. So at the end of the day, the number one thing that I want you to walk away from this episode knowing is people vote with their downloads, they tell you what they're thinking with their downloads,
because that is their time. They're not wasting time on things that they don't care about. They're telling you this, this is what we want more of this is what's important to us. Okay, so like I said, the first thing was really telling you showing you behind the scenes of my insights because I feel like I started saying like number one and then I didn't say number two number three anything So number one is showing you the behind
the scenes. Number two is understanding that you need to look at your stats at least once a month. And number three, I just want you to see all the incredible things that you're doing all of the incredible things that you're doing. And I want you to say Holy crap, like, This is fun. Like we like people are listening to my show, whether it's 10, whether it's 10,000, those are actual people on the other side of those numbers, and I never,
ever want you to lose sight of that. I never want you to get so like, corrupt in your mind to think that well, these are just numbers. Because I look at these. And I just say, Wow, there are that many people that are interested in what I have to say there are that many people that I have the potential to help. There are that many people that show up every single week to hear more about podcasting, and learn about how they can make a
difference in the world. Because guys, it's not about me, okay, if you have not realized this already, I know it's not about me, it is about you. Because you are the one that has that important message to share with the world, you are the one that can help more people, you are the one that can help people save time, save money, save their sanity, whatever that looks like, you're the
one that has an important message. And I want you like this is your permission here today, to have more confidence in your podcast and to know showing up every single week, being consistent. It pays off. It really does. It pays off in really, really big ways. So I want you to keep that in mind. As you go into your week as you go into planning your next podcast episode, whatever type of content that you're creating, think about that. And remember that.
Okay, so like I said, for rent from all of that now we're going to talk about a good outro if this is your first time tuning in, thank you so much for listening, I hope that you enjoyed everything that we shared here today. I think that we're going to be doing some more insights coming up, we're going to be doing a debrief of the buzzsprout Global stats. I've done YouTube videos on this in the past, but I haven't done a
dedicated podcast episode. So be on the lookout for that it's probably going to show up as a bonus episode. And I don't do like shownotes, blog posts all those things for bonus episodes. So you're really going to make sure that you you want to make sure that you're subscribed because that's the only way you really get a notification because I don't talk about all the things with BONUS
