Intro

How do I grow my podcast? If I have limited resources? Right, this is a question that I often see. So if you're like, whoo, I've asked that question. Maybe you're like, I've asked Krystal that question. Well, then you're going to be really excited about today's episode, because we're going to be talking about leveraging your current community to help you grow your show, because a lot of people look at other podcasts.

First of all, let's not go down the comparison rabbit hole, because that is just a recipe for disaster. I'm speaking from experience on that one. But I think that we often look at Well, I don't have any money to pay for a big advertising campaign or I it's just me, right, you don't have a virtual assistant that can help you guest on a whole bunch of podcast and you're just you feel a little overwhelmed with the idea of growing your

show. So I'm going to share some tips for you that you can leverage your own community in order to grow your podcast. So let's get right to it. Welcome to the profit podcast where we teach entrepreneurs how to start launch and market their podcast. I'm your host, Krystal, Proffitt, and I'm so excited that you're here. Thanks for hanging out with me today. Because if you've been trying to figure out the world of podcasting, think of this show as the time saving shortcut you've been

looking for. So let's get right to it, shall we?

Behind the Scenes

Okay, so here's a fun behind the scenes, little one, call it a fact. But a little, little anecdote. Before we really dive into today's podcast, I was literally about to hit record, and then my dryer went off. And it sounds like an ice cream truck. You know, like, first of all, let's go back to our childhood and think about did your dryers at your home, they were just like my made this weird, like buzzing noise whenever it was finished. Now it's like my dryer.

And I don't even have like a super high tech fancy dryer like it's it's old at this point. I mean, it's several years old. It's not brand spanking new. But I literally just ended and it was a record. I'm like, I'm glad that I didn't hit record. But also I kind of wish that it sounded like there was an ice cream truck, like in my house. Because anyway, anyway, I'm just sharing a little behind the scenes. I do that from time to time. If you're brand new around here, and you're

like, Whoa, this lady's a little crazy. Well, welcome to the show. I'm so happy that you're here. We keep it real on this podcast.

4 Important Tips for Leveraging Your Community

But we are talking about leveraging your current community to help you grow your podcast. And there are four specific things that I'm going to share with you today. And then we're going to do a deep dive on one of them. Because when people say, I don't have a big audience, I only have 10 people only have 50. listeners, I just want to say, How are you serving those people, because that's what

matters. Like if I were to serve you, an audience of 10,000 listeners tomorrow, let's be honest, you really wouldn't know what to do with that information. You wouldn't like everyone really thinks that I just want this overnight. But you have to learn how to cultivate the people that are already in your audience. So if you get the opportunity to have a quote, overnight success for your audience, then you still have to know how to leverage that audience whether it's 10, or 10,000.

So that's what we're going to talk about today. So four ways that you can leverage your current podcast community to grow your show.

1. Email List

Now the first one is your email list. And I'm going to list a bunch of resources of previous podcast episodes and YouTube videos that we've already done. So the show notes for today's episode are KrystalProffitt.com/episode286 to 86. And I want you to go there if you're like, Oh my gosh, like what we're gonna do like highlights of some of these topics because I've already got gone deep. We are went on the deep end on building an email list with a podcast, I did a

whole training. That was for a pod Houston back in 2019. That was how do you grow an email list with a podcast? What does that look like? But what I'm talking about today is leveraging your podcast to help you grow your show. Now, I hope that you've already started creating weekly emails for your list, right? Whether it's just let's say up

Publish episodes every Tuesday. Well, I hope that at some point during the week, you're sending everyone on your email list, you're telling them, hey, there's a brand new episode, here's why you should listen to it. It really is that simple. When people say to me, I don't know what to say to my list, literally tell them, I have a new episode. Here's why you should go listen to it. It doesn't have to be rocket scientist, rocket scientist, listen to me, I'm just making stuff up

here and saying the wrong words. But you know what I mean, right? It doesn't have to be this thing that's like, super fancy over the top. It's just a matter of here is what's going on on the podcast this week. And here's why you should listen to it. But what does it look like to actually leverage your email list? Well, it's saying, hey, if you enjoy the show, then I would love for you to share this podcast episode with someone in your audience, or someone that you know, or someone

that could benefit from the message. And we're going to talk more about this in a deeper concept in a second. But I think that leveraging your email list, like it's an asset, it's an asset to you, your business and your podcast. So I think that using it in a strategic way is really smart. So that's number one, your email list.

2. Online Community

Number two, your Facebook community. Now I know not everyone will have a Facebook community. And I know not everyone will have a community in general, right? You're like, I don't know where to create a group. I have some episodes, about creating Facebook communities, about creating communities in general and what that looks like. But I want you really leveraging your communities like what are you doing to engage

your audience? Right? What are you doing to have them participate in the content that's happening? when people tell me content creation is so hard, I don't know what to talk about. They usually don't have a connection with their audience, because y'all, my audience tells me almost weekly, what they need, I have my content planned out for the rest of the quarter and going into quarter four, because my audience has told me what they need, everything becomes a lot easier when you have that

deeper connection with your audience. So I want you to have an established community, I don't care where it is, doesn't have to be on Facebook, it could be on Slack, it could be in some other platform I've never even heard of, but I want you to establish a place for you to engage with your audience. That way, you can have them help you grow your show. And we're going to talk about you're like, wait, what does that look like? What do I say to them? We're gonna talk about that in

just a second. But I want you to leverage the community that you've already built to help you grow your show. And then the third thing, so number one was email list number two, your Facebook community or your community, wherever you're building it.

3. Live Streams

Number three, live streams. All this is so good, so good. So you'll know like I just love a love a good live stream. I actually miss them a lot. And I didn't realize it until we were doing the challenge. And I just there's nothing, nothing can replace that like live interaction with people. Like they're asking you questions, you get to answer them in real time. You get to display like, their name and everything. I use stream yard, and it allows me to

do this. And I just love being able to share with people like just like I'm recording this episode on a Wednesday, just yesterday, on Tuesday, when I do my weekly live streams, I was able to say, hey, here is today's episode, here's what it was about. Here's the link for it, go check it out. So it's allowing me to bring awareness to people who might be on my live streams that don't see all of my

other podcast information. And when I say live stream, this could be going live on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, like there's so many different places where you can go live. So I think that it's important to leverage that audience and talk about your podcast, talk about your podcast, it's already there. It's not like you have to go and create a potluck. It's there. You already published your show. So make sure that you're leveraging that audience that you have and you're

actually telling them about it. So and if you want to know more about stream yard if you're like I live stream overwhelms me, I want you to go check out my friend Melanie Diane, how I'm gonna link to her YouTube channel. She's the queen of live streams. She does this so freakin well, and we both use this platform called stream yard and it just I'll have a link to stream yard in the show notes as well. But it's just been game changing.

Live Streaming used to overwhelm me a lot. And actually in this week's live stream, we talked about somebody was asking you about video podcasting. And I talked all I'll put a link in the show notes to that as well. Because there were like, you know, what is it like to video podcast? Do you repurpose it? How does that look like and we talked a little bit about it in this week's

live stream. But I think that it's really important that you can sit there and have conversations with people that are in your audience. And give that feedback immediately. Because I get content from that, too. If you watched some of my recent YouTube videos, I took content from a live stream and clips out of it and turned it into YouTube videos. So I mean, I'm all about repurposing. And really working smarter, not

harder. And leveraging your audience through live streams is a fantastic way to grow your podcast awareness and get your information out there. So number one, we talked about your email list number two, your Facebook community, number three live streams.

4. Calls to Action

And then the fourth thing that I want to talk about is your calls to action. Because if you're like, Okay, you're telling me to do this, you're telling me to, you know, have people listen or do this, but I don't know what to say. I know that this is a struggle of this community, because every time I give you all prompts, or I give you scripts of what you're

supposed to say, y'all go berserk. Like I will get comments to say, thank you so much for telling me like giving me a you know, Hi, I'm insert name here. And this is what we're going to talk about today insert podcast description, you know, whatever. Y'all go nuts anytime I give you direct prompts. So these are going to be listed in the show notes. KrystalProffitt.com/Episode286. But this is exactly what I want you to say. If you've listened to this podcast, you probably heard me

say it before. But I'm actually going to list it out as a short script for you to know what to say in your calls to action. So here's an example of what you could say, either on Instagram or on Facebook, wherever you're talking about your podcast, right? Because we're leveraging your community, wherever your community is, I want you

to say this. It would really help me If you've enjoyed this podcast, if you could take a screenshot wherever you're listening, and share it on I G stories, tag me and I'll reshare it from my account. Insane, right? That that's the script. And I want to give you a specific example of someone who does this well. So bilenda shout out Belinda, she tagged me on Instagram, when she puts up a new podcast episode or whenever she has a win for her podcast. It's all about being gluten free.

And it's about celiac disease and what it looks like to you know, handle that as someone who's going through it. She's like a fitness coach. And I love that she tags me, it's like she she will tag me whenever she shares a new episode of her show. So it's not even mine. She's tagging me. But I get so excited because she's someone in our community that is tagging me on Instagrams, I'm going to reshare it, y'all if you tag me on Instagram and things, I'm going to reshare it.

Like Brandon, Brandon is another one that I can think of who's tagged me in the past and said, Hey, I'm celebrating, you know, whether it was a new milestone of his podcast, or another episode that he was really excited about. He's tagged me before on Instagram, I will read share it. So this like, aside from me, teaching you about leveraging your community to grow your show, this is a great way that you know, just two examples of Belinda and Brandon, they have tagged me on Instagram, and

I will reshare their stuff. They're getting their podcast, their journey visible in front of my audience because I get excited for them. I'm like, this is incredible I in share, or I will share whenever they tagged me. So just an example of what calls to action can look like. But more importantly, when people tag you and stuff reshare it, I think that it's so cool that we can leverage each other's audiences to grow each other's

audiences. Okay, so that's a call to action number one, the second call to action and I don't typically do this but I do hear this on other shows. And I've been tempted to do it a few times and I have done it a few times. But I just because I don't do it all the time. I wanted to offer this because it might work well for your audience. Okay, here begin seeing right? Do you know someone who'd be interested in today's topic, then text

this episode to them. Most podcast players, wherever you're listening to the show, you can share a link directly from the app. So copy that link and text it to a friend who could benefit

from this episode. Insane. Now that script is more for if you're sharing it on your podcast, but you could say that on your live stream, you could say it in your Facebook community, you could say it on your email list where you send them the link to your show and say, Hey, kit like forward this podcast to 10 of your closest friends or forward this to someone who could really benefit about

what we talked about today. But at the end of the day, you're going to know what feels most comfortable to you, and what call to action works. But y'all, you've got to talk about your podcast like I get so like the coach in me get super frustrated when people tell me my show isn't growing, my show isn't growing. I can't grow my show. And I say, well, where are you talking about it? And I just get this blank stare? They're just like, um, well, I thought you just had to publish

it. No, no, no, no, no, no, you should see, I wish you could see me right now. Because I have two hands and fists, and I'm shaking them next to my microphone, because that is not the deal. That is not the deal. You cannot just hit publish on your podcast, and expect it to just grow on its own, some podcasts that works for, but most of us, let's just be really honest, that is not the name of the game. You've got to feel comfortable

talking about your show. And you have to feel comfortable asking your audience like, hey, if you found value in this, I would love it if you would share it with five of your closest friends are someone that could benefit from this message today. And make that ask make it make that call to action. And if you have to practice it, right, if you're like, I don't feel really comfortable doing that in my podcast episode, do it on your Instagram, right? I do stories only live there for

24 hours. So if you say something dumb, or you're just like, I don't really like the way it's leave it up there. It's 24 hours and it will go away forever. It will die on some social media graveyard somewhere. But don't be afraid to make that ask of your audience to help you continue to grow your show. But speaking of communities, right, we've talked about communities. We're talking about your email list your Facebook

community, live streams and calls to action. But really, I wanted to tell you about a community that is just freaking on fire right now as I'm recording this. And if you want to see how community has done really, really well. I want you to go check out my mentor Amy Porterfield. She's doing a 30 day course creation boot camp. And the

community that is in there is just on fire. So if you're looking for an example of what it looks like to have an engaged community, then I want you to come join this free boot camp there's going to be a link in the show notes to join us. So KrystalProffitt.com/episode286. But it's all about how to create your first or next digital course. She's really helping you make some key decisions before you go all in and say I want to create a course and then you do it. And you're like, I

totally screwed up. I had no idea what I was doing. She's helping you lay the foundation for your first or next digital course. So come join us. Like I said, there's going to be a link in the show notes for today's episode.

Outro

But that's all I have for you today. I want you to sit down and carefully consider where is my current audience? And how can I leverage the people that are already in your community? I don't care if it's 10. I don't care if it's 10,000. How can you leverage the community that you have around you right now to help you grow your podcast, but that's all I have for you today. So as always remember, keep it up. We all have to start somewhere.
