Episode description

Here are a few less-serious stories we saw about the outbreak over the weekend.

1. Now that things have started to calm down in China, DIVORCE RATES are spiking. Apparently more than a few couples spent way too long being quarantined together.

2. Because of the toilet paper "shortage," sales of BIDETS are through the roof.

3. The online porn industry has seen a surge in traffic because everyone's staying home. So cam girls are making a ton of money because of the outbreak.

4. A police department in Ohio posted a jokey message on Facebook last week, asking that "all criminal activities stop until further notice." They added that they'll let criminals know when it's okay to start committing crimes again.

5. Police in Oregon had to ask people to stop calling 911 when they run out of toilet paper, because it doesn't qualify as life-or-death.

6. Guys who scheduled their vasectomies around March Madness this year are complaining, because there's nothing to watch.

7. Even the terrorist group ISIS is telling its fighters to avoid Europe right now, so they don't get sick.

8. Someone came up with an immune-boosting cocktail called the "quarantini." It's made with powdered vitamin C drink mix. The brand Emergen-C responded, and said they DON'T recommend mixing their product with alcohol.

9. A pizza place in Oshkosh, Wisconsin added rolls of toilet paper to its menu, so customers can add it on when they order food.

10. This is good to know if you've thought about getting in on the keto diet craze. A new study found it can cause mild flu-like symptoms similar to COVID-19. Things like headaches, fatigue, and nausea.

A lot of the news we've seen this past week has been pretty dire. But there are a ton of INSPIRING stories out there too. Here's a quick round-up of ten good news stories we've seen about the outbreak . . .

1. Videos of people in Italy SINGING together from their balconies went viral this weekend. The best one is from Siena, Italy, where they sang a popular song about how proud they are of their hometown. (Here's the video.)

2. All across Spain, people went to their windows to give healthcare workers a huge round of applause.

3. A video of doctors and nurses in Wuhan smiling and removing their masks has been making the rounds on social media. China closed the last of its emergency hospitals last week after spread of the virus there finally leveled off.

4. For the first time, South Korea had more recoveries in one day than new cases.

5. After Disneyland shut down, they donated all their extra food to a food bank in Orange County, California.

6. Last week, we heard about a distillery in Oregon that was making hand sanitizer and giving it out for free. Now more distilleries around the country are doing it.

7. Internet providers are offering unlimited, free public Wi-Fi during the crisis. And the big phone companies are stepping up too. Verizon is pausing late fees. And T-Mobile is giving customers unlimited data on their smartphones.

8. A woman in North Carolina named Becky Hoeffler has been doing grocery store runs for elderly people to reduce their exposure.

9. A convenience store in Scotland has been handing out free facemasks and hand sanitizer to people over 65.

10. And a 17-year-old kid near Seattle named Avi Schiffmann started a website in late December that tracks coronavirus cases around the world in real time.

It was unthinkable even a week ago but now it feels inevitable . . . so is a nationwide lockdown coming?

States and cities have already begun instituting extreme lockdowns . . . especially in the wake of this past weekend when the "social distancing" message didn't seem to resonate as well as it should.

California has ordered home isolation for people 65 and older and people with chronic diseases . . . and they've shut down bars, clubs, and wineries. Illinois, Ohio, and New York City have shut down dine-in restaurants and bars.

New York City is the country's largest school system, and they closed schools as of today for at least a month.

Other places that have closed schools, restaurants, bars, or all of the above include Florida, Pennsylvania, Washington, Minnesota, Massachusetts, South Carolina, D.C., Denver, Atlanta, and many more.

The CDC says that closing schools for EIGHT weeks may be what's necessary to mitigate the spread of the disease.

And that's not all. Starbucks will only be "to go" across the U.S. Apple, Nike, and Urban Outfitters have shut down all of their stores. Grocery stores and Walmarts are changing their hours to give themselves time to restock shelves.

And the CDC is recommending that organizations and groups cancel events with 50 or more people for the next eight weeks.

Could a full nationwide lockdown be next? At this point, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, says it's entirely possible.

If you're hearing all of this and thinking it's an OVERREACTION, or that coronavirus isn't serious enough to warrant all this . . . it's time to accept that this IS reality and IS necessary. If we CAN curb this, it's with strong, aggressive action.

Fauci also says, quote, "If it looks like you're overreacting, you're probably doing the right thing."
