E42 - Going The Extra Mile What Does It Mean For Content Creators and Podcasters with Guest CO HOST - Tamzin Hall
Where did the term/saying "To go the extra mile" come from? The first records of the phrase go the extra mile come from around 1900. It’s a reference to a line from Jesus’s Sermon on the Mount in the Bible: “If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles.” Many people interpret it to mean that they should always try to do more than is asked of them.
In historical times, the Jews resented and even hated the Romans because of the Roman Empire's heavy-handed taxes and laws. One of those laws required anyone twelve years or older to carry a soldier's gear for an entire mile if they were asked. It was in light of that law that Jesus taught the principle of going an extra mile. When we go beyond the basics, the law, the minimum requirement - in this case carrying a soldier's gear for a mile out of our way. we find that as we volunteer to go the extra mile, it is in that moment that our audience truly connects with us and people see that we truly care - we go beyond legal requirements and do the extra! How does this relate to podcasting?
