Episode description

At the start of a new year there are plenty of voices telling us to get fit; go on a diet; or supercharge our careers. This advice might be well-intentioned, but it can also be DEAFENING!!!

In 2023, try listening to a voice that's often drowned out by all the noise... the voice inside you. From Jan 2, Dr Laurie Santos presents a series of interviews with experts to help you tune in to your inner compass - your intuition. Pushkin. January is almost here, and the new year is a great opportunity for a fresh start to make the kinds of changes that will make us healthier and happier. But it's also a time where there are lots of voices competing for our attention, like the ones telling us that it's a new year, so we better get fit and find the perfect new gym or diet, or that it's finally time to update our resumes and start pushing

ourselves more in our careers. And at the start of the new year, all these cultural messages can start to feel deafening. They get so loud that it can be hard to hear that inner voice of what we really want and need. So in our upcoming special New Year's season of the Happiness Lab, we're going to find ways to hush those overbearing voices. We're going to learn about ways that we can pay attention to a wise voice

that often gets drowned out by all the noise. It's the voice inside us, our intuition about what we really need, our inner compass, if you will, It's the voice that will actually guide us in the right direction in twenty twenty three. If we can find ways to listen. So with the help of my favorite scientists and experts, we'll be finding ways to finally hear that inner voice. We'll tackle overwork and explore whether striving for career success is

really the route to happiness. In twenty twenty three, my peer group have been searching for work as a way to make themselves whole, and I think it actually sets us up for a lot of disappointment. Too many of us bring the best of ourselves to work and then bring the leftovers home. And we'll see why latching onto fad New Year's diets and exercise plans may not be the best ways to give our bodies what they're really craving.

Prepare to be seduced by those few years fad diets, And when I look back now, I think how unrealistic of me to think that an issue as calm lex as body image could just be fixed because it's a date on the calendar. And we'll explore some effective strategies for living in the moment, especially at New Year's when so many voices tell us to shoot for the next

big future thing. It's just hard, man, It's really, it's really, it's really hard to be present so if you want to gain a new perspective and figure out what you really want in the new year, join me doctor Laurie Santo's for a special New Year's season of the Happiness Lab starting January second, and give your wise inner voice a chance to be heard.
