You are listening to The Doom Podcast. Please enjoy your stay, stay, stay, stay. Hey guys, welcome to The Doom Podcast. This is our first episode. My name is Matt Mungrin, and this is my co-host. Andie Mano. Hey Andie Mano, how's it going? Good. Okay, guys, thank you for tuning in. This is the Doom Podcast where we're going to talk about the video game Doom. And the reason why we made this podcast is because we love Doom, isn't that right? Right.
And, you know, we just want to talk about why we like Doom, some of our favorite things about Doom, what's our favorite Doom games, and stuff like that. So let's get the show started. So Andie Mano, what do you say we start off with Doom 1? Um, I'm a Doom fan. He's a Doom fan, and we're going to start with Doom 1. Now, I'm going to start first. The first time I played Doom, wow.
I mean, it was in the 90s. Andie Mano, you weren't even born yet, but it was a game that I saw on magazines, and I didn't play it, but I just thought it looked so cool because it was like 3D, you know. And, um, I saw it. I've always wanted to play, but I didn't have a computer because Doom was only for the computer.
Not I played it the first time was actually on, um, the Gen. No, not Xbox. I played it. There was no Xbox. It was on the Sega Genesis 32X. I was that Sears. I believe I was in the mall somewhere and I saw it running. First time I ever played Doom. And it was on a console. It wasn't the computer version, but I thought it was so cool because you can walk around and, you know, shoot monsters and stuff like that.
And it was just so different from all the other games that were out because it was the first person shooter. Matt Mungren. Yeah. So how when you start playing Doom on the Xbox? Okay, that's a good question. Okay, so, um, you know, I had I eventually bought Doom. They had it for 3D. And I loved it. And it turns out it's one of the worst versions, but it was cool because they they redid the music and it was like heavy metal rock music.
So moving along, I don't think I mean, I had Game Boy Advance. They had Doom, which was fun because I could go to work playing it. But yes, on the amount of your right eventually it was released on the Xbox 360. And in my opinion, it's probably the best version. What do you think? Yeah, but now's my turn. Okay, you go. We'll ask you when was the first time you played Doom?
Since when you start playing Doom. That's impossible because you weren't born yet. Um, I know you were a little baby and you used to play Doom on the Xbox 360. You probably don't even remember. Um, I had it on Xbox 360. And then you I think that might be the first video game you ever played because you were in like diapers playing Doom. Do you remember that? Um, no. Well, how about this? I don't want you. Why don't you tell us about when you first started playing Doom and what it was like?
So I told myself. And but I figured when I was star when I dad was lying about this, that all the babies start playing Doom. I'm not lying. I'm telling for the I remember I was talking when I start playing Doom. Listen, when I say baby, I'm serious. He was like two. I know he doesn't remember, but he was like two when he first started playing. I'm the audience. I'm he's five years old. How old do you on your model?
Five. Okay, he just turned five. Okay, when he was about two years old, he started playing Doom. Um, I'm not he wasn't that good, but. Okay, I'm you mind. Let me ask you a question. Okay. Do you remember when we used to have the Doom parties? Yes. Okay, the Doom parties was we would hang out. We played Doom on Xbox 360. And we would get pizza. Do you remember that? Yes, but pepperoni and I just took off the pepperoni and it's my friend. Right. Okay. No. Wait, I heard something. Wait, wait.
Yeah. Well, okay, you remember it, but you got to understand that was like two, three years ago. So we got to do the math. If you're five now and three years ago, you remember playing Doom. Guess what? You were like two years old. So, but just tell me tell me about what it was like playing Doom when you were so young. Um, one of my favorite songs when I was a baby, but it's still my favorite song in Doom 2 and Doom 1. I got two favorite songs and when I was a baby too.
So, and I still like it when I was a baby. And the other one of Doom 2 was great, great songs. I mean, great, great music. Now the original Doom used MIDI files. So the music was, you know, constructive using MIDI, but it was cool because it like on the monoset, you know, I had really memorable music. Do you remember the music? When you fight the cyber demon and is it Doom 1? I'm thinking so. Okay, well, I had it on 3DO and there was a, I don't know the song. It goes like this.
You know how to do that one? What song is that? I remember the name of that song. I've got to look it up. Anyway, there was a level and the music was called, um, I didn't know about ID or something like that. And it was, um, you know what I'm talking about? Yeah, that's where my favorite song is. That level was with the cyber demon and man, that was such a kick ass, kick ass game.
Well, well, Doom, it was like cool because I really liked it and now I'm good. I'm good at Doom 2, but I don't know why I suck about it. Doom 1, I could beat in one player. I beat it so many times. In versus of icons in Doom 2, I could beat it because we kill 5 heroes because you, you can verse the monsters and icons in the versus. And if you get 5, which number you have and it's the same exact flag, you beat it.
He's right. See, in that one of the coolest things about the Xbox 360 version was that it had a versus moon. And it was cool because you could play through all the levels now. One of the levels that were so hard was in Doom 2 is icon of sin, but you could pick that level to do versus. But let's go back to Doom 1 for a second because I just remembered something. No, I need to bring this up. I had my friends when PlayStation 1 came out, they released Doom.
And it was cool because on your mono you played Doom 1 PlayStation right. Yes, but guess me on nervous. Okay, so that's the thing when it came out on PlayStation, PlayStation 1, they changed it. Now it was still Doom, but they had like a lot of dynamic lighting, which made it scarier. And they got rid of those songs and they added their own scary music, man, and just made the game so eerie.
And yeah, there was something about the PlayStation one that was just so cool because it was scary. What do you think? Well, Matt Mungerin. So, I be found Doom on the computer because I use cheats. Yes, he used cheats. Well now here's something about the Xbox 360 version. The cheats I use was all weapons, which gives you all keys, God mode, and I did you clip. Cool. So you can go through the walls. Okay, that's in that's on the computer version. The Xbox 360 version. Guess what? No cheats.
Which is good and it's bad. Tell me what do you think about the Xbox version with no cheats? Well, this different Xbox we have, which is Xbox VVGN. It has we have Doom 1 on it and all the Doom's on Xbox VVGN. Which is he can get it has cheats. Right. Okay. No, I that's a good thing he brought that up on the original Xbox. We have Doom 3 BFG edition. Well, I don't think it's BFG. It's Doom 3 something edition and it has Doom 1 and it has Doom 2 on it. What's the other what's the other Doom?
Doom 3 and it has some of the expansions. I don't remember the name. Really good stuff. Really good stuff. But okay, so I think I think that's everything we're going to talk about for Doom 1. Now, let's go to Doom 2. Now I'm going to start it off with Doom 2. Doom 2 was a sequel to Doom 1. The original Doom was just called Doom. Then it came out with Doom 2. So basically it took everything from Doom 1 and made it better. And it's probably my favorite Doom.
Now, the first time I played Doom 2 was actually on the PlayStation. And that's the first time I ever saw the Super Shocker. What do you think about the Super Shocker on DiMano? It's cool because with the zombie you could kill them instantly. That's right. It's very powerful. I mean, you know, I have a lot of weapons that I like. But, you know, one of my favorite weapons is the Super Shocker. The other weapons that I like is the Plasma and Gennie Rocket Launcher and BFG9000.
Yeah, those are all good weapons. The Super Shocker is good for when the monsters are close. You know, when you close up, the Super Shocker is not good for range. But... Yeah, but dead. When there's something like... When there's like those skeletons that are so hard, you can't beat it with a Super Shocker. Well, you know what? He's right about that. There's times when you need to do something that has more range. Yeah, but he is the funny part. What a...
Skeletons and their Wonders of Light monsters near you and just kill them one shot. I don't care what monster it is, you know. I can kill any monster with a Super Shocker no matter what. You know, it might take a couple of hits, a lot of more hits, but you get close ranged. You're gonna do a lot of damage. Now, don't get me wrong. I like the Rocket Launcher. However, to get too close, it's gonna do damage to you. You know, so... But he is the funny part about the Rocket Launcher.
When there's a zombie near you and you're near it, then when you shoot it, you shoot it right near you and the zombies near you. And you get hurt and the zombie dies. Yeah, that's true. Now, Doom 2 probably might...probably my favorite, maybe. You know, we'll get into it. I really love that they made the level design better. They had added new monsters. It just was an overall better game. Andy-mono, tell me what you think about Doom 2. Doom 2 is awesome about it because...
And I kinda said it gives you a lot of health and also it gives you all the weapons. Because I kinda said it's so man-hard. It is man-hard. And the only way that I've ever beaten it, I think, was... I mean, we've beaten it with like... Okay, I'm sorry. I never even brought this up. The Xbox 360 version lets you do co-op. So, you can work as a team and keep respawning. A lot of fun. I mean, 360 is like the definitive version of Doom because...
Because you could do co-op and you could do versus. What do you think? Cool, but he is my fair part about Doom. But this is... And I got a sucky part. So the sucky part is in one player you get to Icon-San and he dies. Start all over. Start all over. That's right. I mean, that's the way the game was though. You start all over. I mean, you could... I think you could save. But Andy-mono's right. If you're playing it one player and you die, guess what? You gotta start over.
The cool thing about the co-op was one guy dies. The other guy's still going. The other one could respawn and they just keep going until they beat it. So, that's one of the bad things. But one of the cool things is if you have somebody to play with... It makes it a lot of fun. Plus, you could play it on Xbox Live. Now Andy-mono, have you ever played with anyone over Xbox Live? You know, in Doom? Um, the only person I could play with is my dad.
That's right. But a couple of times I think we went online and there were some people around. There were some people on it, some strangers we played with a couple of times, I think. You have like, um... Austin? Right. That's right. We met a guy named Austin something and he played with us. We had a lot of fun. A lot of fun. Doom 2 definitely, a lot of fun on Xbox 360. Um, it's great on the... I'm going to tell you right now. It's a great game.
Doom 1 and Doom 2 for the Game Boy Advance because it was a portable version. Yeah, but um... Here's the Sucky part about Doom 1 where we're playing Doom. So somebody joined us our game and we didn't know what's that one somebody talked. So we figured somebody was talking the same person who was playing with us. That's right. Um, we didn't have like our mic set up because we weren't... We were just playing with each other. We weren't planning on using the set to nothing.
The guy or girl that was playing Doom or the boy that was playing Doom should... We did have a thing that you could talk to different people when you're playing the same thing that game and the other people that are playing the same thing that game you're playing. So he was telling us stuff. He weren't even really listening to him because we didn't have the volume up. We didn't have our headsets. But overall it was still fun. I'm going to tell you about another game. Okay, Doom 2. Uh oh.
So here's my part. Okay, I'm sorry. Go ahead, Andi Mana. So... I like about Doom when people join us because... But here's the Sucky part. Like when I was playing Doom with Dad, I was brown. Somebody else was green and black. What color were you were when somebody joined in because I was brown? I don't remember. I guess you're green and the other person who was green. Or the orange, green, orange or something. I don't remember. No, I was orange and I was stuck because I couldn't turn off my Mac.
Right. Okay, well moving along, that's Doom 2. And definitely check out Doom 2 if you guys haven't played it. Really fun. Um, before... What was the Sucky part about Doom 1? There's no super shotgun. You got that right. You got that right. Doom 2 make Doom 1 so hard. Okay, alright. Well here's the fight part what I did. And Doom. So you could change different levels. And one of my favorite songs is Dintin. And um, the other ones was my favorite. So here's the one I very, very love.
So when you go level 3, beat it with a dip because there's two exits in level 3. So when them has a bridge near the fly. So when the bridge and there's zombies and stuff. So since we go to exit turns you to level 9, not level 8, not to the final boss. Because level 8 is the final boss and it skips all the levels you didn't beat. And then, so when beat low 9, it skips to level 4. That's weird. This kid knows a lot about... He knows a lot more about Doom than I do. I mean, this kid knows a lot.
So, um, yeah. So anyway, moving along. So I had Doom 1, Doom 2 for PlayStation. I don't think I owned it. I think somebody else owned it. I played it at the house. Then I... Oh, man. I'm gonna tell you about one of my favorite Doom's right now. I had an Nintendo 64. And the game that I bought was called Doom 64. Andymana, what do you know about Doom 64? Here's the awesome part. When you start the game, it has like... Like a space song. Because Doom 64 is in space.
That's right. And I don't know... I don't remember the story about Doom 64. I know it was based off of... Because Doom has a story mode, I think. Doom the absolution. I think that was a... A mod of Doom 2. I could be wrong. But Doom... I'll tell you that the bad thing about Doom 64 right off the bat is that... It's not multiplayer. Okay. So Doom 64 is not multiplayer. However, when the game starts, you see a bunch of guys fighting each other at the title screen.
So it gives you an impression that it's multiplayer, but it's not. Here's the fire part about Final Doom. So, since in level... the level that's so hard that we played at my birthday party... It's so hard in here's the fire part. And it's spiders and there's four cyber demons fighting each other. That's crazy. And the other thing is that the music is amazing. Now mind you, I could be wrong, but I didn't have to look it up.
It looks like the guys that did the music for the PlayStation version of Doom... They hired them to do the music for Doom 64. And when I say scary music, the music is scary. Now the graphics are really good. They're not really pixelated or anything. Right, but yes, the funny part. I don't know what Doom was. I got a thing. So, let's go today's question. Yeah, like I was saying, the graphics is very dark.
It was like Animano said, it's in like... I guess it's... I don't know where it takes place, but you could... Yeah, but because Doom 64 is not in Mars. I don't know if it's in Mars or not. It might be on Moon or something of Mars. But I don't know. Anyway, when you first start, you get to see the Moonlight and you see the stars. So, it was definitely different because you see space. So, it was a very different Doom now. You know, it was much harder. Yeah, because no multiplayer on Doom 3.
But there is multiplayer on Doom 3 because there's... You have only dust. When I say only dust, the video gains, that means that all the other Doom's are not in Doom 3. So, there's only Doom 2 and Doom 1. Not far from Doom or Doom 64. Okay, we didn't even get to that yet. But yeah, let's... Yeah, but stay on Doom 64 for now. The first thing I want to say is that it's not multiplayer on Xbox 360. If you had two original Xboxes, then you could play together, but you need two versions.
You need two Doom 3... Doom 3's disk. Or you could just copy it to the other Xboxy original. Okay, what he's saying is he's really smart. Doom 3 came out on the next Gen Systems 360 and PS3. And they were single-player games. However, Doom 3 was released for the original Xbox, which did have a multiplayer mode, like a co-op mode, system-ling. And he's right. You could do it if you had two Xboxes and you did system-ling. But not split screen.
Right, well, not split screen. You just need two Xboxes. When he talks about copying this, I think you need a modded console for that. But I think a lot of people have modded consoles, so I think it's possible. That's really cool. Now, jumping into Doom 3... Now, Doom 3 came a year later than... Yeah, because all the other Doom still have jumping. Right. The only this one or the mod. Right, he's right. So this one could only have jumping Doom 3.
Now, Doom 3 was like a retake on the whole story, so... Right, because that's the Doom Doom. The new Doom is called Doom 3 because they had no song, but... There's an arcade called Super Tome, turkey puncher. So there's a chicken in Doom 2. And Doom 3 is the arcade, so... That's right. There's like an arcade game. It basically pays homage to the other Doom games, but that's in the newer Doom. Now, when we say newer, man, it's crazy because I had Doom 3 and it was like in 2000. Yeah, because...
Oh my god, that's so mean. I like the... So... Doom 3 wasn't like... Like... Not good, but it is good because... You get to do stuff that's not in the other Doom's. Definitely. And if you were to ask me, what's the scariest Doom? I would say Doom 3. What about you, Undymino? What's the scariest Doom game? Doom 64. Wow, he's... That's a good one, man. Doom 64 is scary, especially with the music... With the... You hear the... Scary graphics because... Ruh, ruh, ruh, ruh, ruh, ruh.
Yeah, some of the music you hear like the baby, you know. You know, that always creep me up. Dad always scares the crap out of me. Yeah, man, it's a scary stuff. So the scariest games, we would definitely say Doom 64, Doom 3. Because Doom 3, you could look up and down, not the other Doom. Right, and Doom 3 was scary as hell. I mean, it was... It was scary. But here's the thing I don't have on computer. Minecraft Doom. Minecraft Doom, coming soon. Because you only have like different stuff.
Because what are you later aint down? And then it's bothering you. Time out, time out. This is about Doom. We're not talking about Minecraft. Let's just stick to Doom. When I say Minecraft Doom, that means it's a mod of Doom. Oh, key-dokie, moving along here. Okay, so... Undy-mon, I've got a couple of questions for you to mind. Alright, so we know that you think the scariest Doom is Doom 64. And the other Doom I think is called Doom Minecraft Doom.
I mean, Minecraft Doom. That is so scary like... Here's the 4-in-part word, the video I watched of Minecraft Doom. So... There's like, there's an original... In the Minecraft, in the real Minecraft... You get to build stuff. But in this Minecraft, Minecraft Doom, you can also jump too. And it's scary because in the regular Minecraft, you gotta jump in like, look up and down. So there's the enter dragon desk, the fall boss. Alright, time out, time out. We're getting too much into Minecraft.
Let's just stick to Doom. Wait, I wanna think of my question. Alright, go ahead. So, the regular Minecraft is the final boss of Minecraft. So, as you beat the enter dragon, you beat it, but you can still play it. The same world you're that in. But, in Minecraft Doom, it's like scary because... It's like, we lay it down. Monster, monster. So, when you get like... It's so funny because this sword is the chainsaw bone arrow pistol.
So, I'm assuming this is some sort of mod for Minecraft on the computer, is that right? Right, but I don't think my mom or her computer... I don't think she has the mod. So, it's something that somebody made, which sounds pretty cool because they took Doom and they put it with Minecraft. Sounds really cool. Because the Doom Minecraft Doom I watched was Doomcraft. Doomcraft, that sounds pretty cool.
Because it's Minecraft, but they figured to type it Doomcraft because they didn't want to finish the world of Minecraft. Okay, well, Andy Mono, do you like Minecraft a lot? Yeah, because here's the free part. I could build a lot of stuff better than Daddy. Of course, because, you know... I don't, you know, I'm not good like that in Minecraft. We know that. Because, when we're asked, we're not asked. And we're else. We, me and Matt Mungren, we build a lot of stuff instead.
And here, we, dad blows up a lot of my world. So, I make a world for us. We start blowing up stuff and we didn't build anything in the world I made. Okay, okay. I promise I won't blow anything up in Minecraft anymore. I promise. You promise you not to trick me. I'm not gonna trick you. No more blowing up stuff. Okay, so what's built like... Boon owly, then like... We build like, Boon owly, high score, like, we build like football and all that stuff. Alright, that sounds like a plan.
But let me ask you a question. Since you like Minecraft so much, what do you like better? Doom or Minecraft? Well, what I'm doing, but... Here's my, here's my favorite game of all time. I got two of them. Minecraft and Doom. He's a Minecraft fan. There's no, there's no arguing with that. I'm a, uh, all the games I like, I'm a fan at. He's a fan. Well, then let me ask you a question. Where does Final Doom fit in all this stuff? Now, Final Doom's another game.
It never was released on a console or anything like that. Only on computer or PlayStation. Right, you know what? I'm perfectly wrong. It's a part about, about Doom on PlayStation. So when my, when my, whenmonster games the controller to me, I got mad because it was like different, like different control. That's right. It wasn't like a dual analog stick the way they have now. The controller's there was just like one analog you use.
Because somebody else taught me how playstyle Doom on the computer and I know the teach now because my mongren taught me and all the teaks. I did teach him but he's actually much better than me at doing because I taught him how to play it
But he knows how to beat it now. Let me ask you something. I've never gotten far in final doom You you did you get to the final boss in and final doom because you could change levels on the computer on Fondue So that's how I did it in god mode and like did chief before I enter it But here's the fucking part when I started Played the foul ball then I had to turn off the clip I had a clip you can't like Because John Merrow he's The one that made it and he's actually in the game too
But on the stick his head wow so John Merrow is the actual boss final boss and you have you said no clip Is that that we said no clipping or something like that? No, I said I did you clip oh ID clip I'm sorry so ID clip let you walk through the wall to kill the vinyl boss Clip and hours on the computer went like no clipping Well Matt Mugren phone that's right. That's right. We were looking at the coach But let me ask you question what do you think about doom on uya?
It's cool because it like you can download the dooms on the same that doom But I called the doom on uya Spunky doom spooky doom well the actual name is called doom less GLES and it's made for Android But you can't like do different pictures and you can name it something else like that
Has a big D in like some other words now like DOM Yes, now there's custom wad files that you can use to run this this the app itself doesn't have any really Wad files has like the doom demo, but you can download them and actually it'll play on the uya And it's a lot of fun because
about it when you download the demos of doom You can do three has a full game and was since my point your assistant um It has all the doom's or you could go to your ender tree and it also Your doom's have we to change into the Full game
Okay, I'm not sure what he's talking about, but yes, so plain doom glass is actually really cool because you can change the graphics You could actually turn them off so they're not block I personally like the blocky mode because How do you know to cheat on uya, but now we know but only on computer?
We know yeah, so um So there's actually a lot of lighting effects that were added so it's really cool to play the original doom one doom Doom 2 final doom stuff like that with added water effects Shading and The funny part about doom so they they decide to do different law within different kind of like colored law Because they decide to do a blue law which is the water and other law was there There's different colors like the yellow one is called The thing that will make you shrink
Okey dokey not really sure, but is that brown thing mixed up with yellow blue water and like slime is the yeah Like all stuff. Yes
Okay, so I think we covered most of the dooms. I'm sure I'm forgetting one now Sega Saturn I played it and it was like doom on the PlayStation just suck here I had the 3DO doom and I loved it as a kid it was my first some dooms were like they had songs but the same next dooms that have songs right the 3DO and had the same songs, but they were redone You can change the size of the screen That mongrin has on Xbox be original doom, but it's like have a songs Right, okay, okay, we're sure
But this is the scary dude like you could look up and down like your scary grass I think what he's talking about is there's a doom that somebody made I can't remember the name it was really bloody
It was pretty cool now. I'm gonna bring up Because on oh yeah when you a monster go like Yeah, so The same thing okay, so I'm gonna bring up a doom game they made doom for the super Nintendo Which I've played and it's actually pretty good for a super Nintendo remember super Nintendo came out and like You know But if you didn't notice do force coming out We don't know what control does it take? I don't think I don't think anybody knows anything about doing for yet, but it's gonna be coming
So on demand on what do you think about the show? I know how people make games they put the they have magic paper So you put the plug you put the wire into the paper which connects to the TV and Then you draw on it and then it knows what game you're making wow this kid knows his stuff What do you think about the show? What do you think about the doom podcast?
Tell me what you think cool because we're talking about doom and like people that make a doom Yeah, so anybody out there that has any comments about the show we'd love to hear from you The email is the doom podcast at gmail.com Anything you want to say you can just send us an email and yeah
be and like so I also had to but Don't we do my so get is do 64 and do three because do you do why did it super turbo Turkey puncher and then after that level I mean There was a spider that followed me, but it didn't attack me But it showed me where the exit that and I mean and then here's the dungeon then Monsters with spawn Yes, but here's the so keep out part about doing the dungeon So you outside in the desert you drink something dead That's crazy You drink some
spray and then man well we talked about every game I think Yeah, they definitely changed it up. I think we covered all the doom games right? Okay, so are we forgetting any doom games? Let's just make sure we got all the doom games in there's another doom game that we're missing Yeah, well, yeah, what's that?
We forgot all the systems Anyway, I brought up all the systems Sega Genesis 32X Super Nintendo 3DO Sega Saturn Computer Xbox 360 PS3 wait, we talked about Xbox 360 right we talked about everything okay So I'll leave it at this the Nvidia shield consoles coming out and they're definitely gonna have doom 3 I'm really excited Has I mean Matt Mungron has Shield and has the same that doom on uia doom glass I have a video shield like when you like open it up during like a picture of food
Yeah, yes, so is there anything else you want to talk about with doom? So so Matt Mungron he's not good at doom but hey hey hey whoa whoa whoa whoa okay I admit you're better than me at doom, but don't say I'm not good. I'm pretty good don't you think? I'm not good at the doom's that I suck at I Understand that because the doom's I suck at is doom 3 and doom 64 and um Fall doom without god mode without All right, I'm demon. Oh, I'm gonna leave it at this. What do you say?
This weekend, maybe we have one of those doom parties where we just play nothing but doom and order pizza. How does that sound? Yeah, sounds like a good idea Good, but I never seen none the videos of like Minecraft Doom that he is blow Chan T But I thought one them the TNT's have battle well This is what it's like podcasting with a five-year-old if there is there anything else that we want to talk about or is that it for this episode?
