All right , today we're going to dive into Matthew 25 , beginning in verse 14 . This is known as the parable of the talents . Part of what you need to know is that a talent it really has a couple of meanings . It was a measure of money in the first century . It was equal to almost about a million dollars today .

It was about a 20 years wage of an average common worker . And I want to point out again in the context what Jesus is talking about is essentially this don't waste your life and so he says this in verse 14 , for it will be like a man going on a long journey , and the it there is the return of Christ .

For it will be like a man going on a journey who called his servants and entrusted to them his property this is so important His property . I need you to know that everything you have is a blood-bought grace gift from Jesus .

You did not earn it , that it was given to you , and one of the common mistakes that men make is we think that we are self-made men . Well , I started this company and I made this money , and I would say you fool . Everything you have was given by God . You did not get to choose your intellect . You did not get to choose your country of origin .

You did not get to choose your educational opportunities . You may have worked hard and made the most of those things , but everything that you have in your entire life is his and everything that has been given to you . One day , the way you use it will either bring regret or reward . So , first and foremost , we must understand that we are owners of nothing .

We are stewards of what God has given to us . He goes on to say to one he gave five talents Again , that's about $5 million . To another , on to say to one he gave five talents Again that's about $5 million . To another two and to another one , each according to his ability . Now , if you're super young , you're beginning to say , well , that's not very fair .

Well , pay very close attention to this . Fairness is not a biblical value . God is the sovereign king of the universe and he does what he wants with who he wants when he wants . And some of you have lots of money , Some of you have a little bit of money , some of you have not very much money , and God is the one often that decides what he is going to .

Trust us with One of the questions that I'll ask people when they talk to me about their financial problems is this If you were God , would you give you more money problems ? Is this If you were God , would you give you more money Based on what you have done with what God has given you ?

Are you conducting the money that ultimately belongs to him in a way that brings him glory and honor ? He goes on to say he who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them and he made five talents more . Pay very close attention that delayed obedience is disobedience .

So many times people have been given an assignment by God and you delay and delay and delay . What this brother does is he goes at once and he does with it what he thinks will bring his master the most glory . So also , he who had two talents made two talents more .

But he who had received the one talent went and dug in the ground and hid his master's money . Now , after a long time , the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them .

I need you to know this , that it may not seem like it's imminent or it's right around the corner , but every single one of us one day will stand before our Lord , our maker , our master , the giver of all good things , the one that has blessed you with your job , your mind , your family , your opportunity , and you and I will have to settle accounts with our

master . And all of a sudden , in that moment , how much you have in your savings account will not matter as much as it does right now . All of a sudden , in that moment , that new truck won't matter as much as you think it matters right now .

And everything that we have been given will either bring reward , because we leveraged it for his glory and our joy , or it will bring regret , because we began to worship the temporary things instead of the giver of those things .

The one thing I want you to wrestle with this day is that do you see all of the things that you have been given as yours or his ?

And if you see them as yours , I pray that you would pray and that you would repent and you would realize that you are but a steward or a manager of everything that you have for a time , and it has been given to you for the glory of God and for your enjoyment .

But if your worship begins to terminate on the temporary things , what you worship you will put all your time , effort and energy in things .

What you worship , you will put all your time , effort and energy in , and so oftentimes what happens is the things that God gives us as a good gift become objects of our worship , as opposed to means by which we worship the one true God .

Know this , everything you have is his , and one day you'll settle accounts and it will either bring you regret or reward .
