So , guys , we're just walking out of First Forum and I gotta tell you just heard the story from Austin Montero , one of their employees , who was born , had a stroke , rare condition , wasn't even supposed to live , and sometimes you meet people that just blow you away , and here he was trying to tell me that I've inspired him . He just inspired me .
So we're gonna do something very , very special . Joey Yak is gonna put together a special burn episode to honor Austin . He's not even gonna know that we're doing it , so let me give you a little rundown . Welcome back to the burn .
We bring you stories of athletes , entertainers , celebrities every single week who understand it's that underlying burn that ignites your why and purpose and causes you to show up on days you don't feel like it , and especially after you win .
So sometimes , when you get hit in the heart with something , we'll drop it right in the middle of the first form parking lot . So this is the burn and I cannot wait for you to hear this story of Austin Monteiro . Where do you live here in town ?
I just live , about 10 minutes away .
Oh nice .
That's it .
Did you move close because of work .
Oh yeah , I burned my boats to get here . I had a very nice paying job and I worked high industrial construction . I'm thinking I would have been on track to make six figures a year . I'm only 26 . So I had a very good paying job and I loved this place . Like I said like very big impact , and I put my two weeks in at my job .
I paid first and last month's rent on an apartment here . And how I got my apartment is I looked at the list of apartments and the one that was closest to here was the one that made the cut . And I got my lease code of my apartment back home and so before I even had actually had my job here .
So I was like I went in all in on this place and was like I'm going to make it fucking happen . That's just how you have to do things . So when you interview , is that what ?
you told them .
Oh yeah , 100% . Look at this You're a huge Bama fan , oh , huge , huge , huge Bama fan Ever since I was a kid Like , and that's something I read every single day . That is my favorite all time because it takes what it takes . It takes what it takes to be successful . Unreal I looked up to that and thought it was a huge thing .
So yeah , so this once I got this from you .
So everybody got to sign it and I didn't .
Yeah , so I have people that have had a huge impact on my life , had huge influences . It's kind of an earned , in my opinion , an earned right , like people that I've built great relationships with , like we have a huge following . But I don't just have anybody celebrity-like . It's people that I've been able to have great conversations with have had a huge impact .
I want this to hang in my office when I have an executive glass office here . It'll hang here , it'll hang there . So I'd be honored if you could .
Amazing , Can you ? It'll be easier for everyone to write a little message on it . Yeah , of course Can we take it down .
If you want to go over here , there's a clear desk .
Yeah , let's do that , It'll be easier . I wish I'd do this right . So , because of the story you just told me , I'm going to put never stop going all in . Is that cool ?
Oh , of course , yeah , of course . Whatever you like , is that Ben yeah ?
How you doing , Good man I'm sorry , I don't know .
If you remember me , I used to work at S2 four years ago , ben .
Newman , absolutely , yeah , I recognize the face . Yeah , nice to see you , great to see you , good to see you in here , yeah , man . There you go .
Thank you , appreciate it , man , you're welcome .
Thank you so much you got it .
Thank you , it means a lot . I got the magnets over there .
You got it OK . Thank you Appreciate it Absolutely yeah , thanks for asking me to do that Of course , man , of course , and yeah , after you , because when you came and spoke , to us right when company I wrote that you wrote this
yeah , it's hung . That's hung in my cubicle . Oh my god , that's amazing . Yeah , dude , you've had a . You had a . I know you probably know this , but you speak all around the world . You probably have had a lot of interactions like this , but you've had an amazing impact on my life and I want you to know that . Like incredible your story about your mom .
My mom was my best friend in my entire life . She passed away . She suffered from different things and different struggles in her life . She fought amazing battles and she loved me to the day I died . It's just like she passed away .
When did she pass With ?
COVID , so 24 years ago , oh my . So she didn't pass away because of COVID , but it was during those times During those times , yeah , yeah . so I mean , I lived this life because of her and everything I do is to be able to , you know , give her the life that I wanted to give her . Like I always told her when I was 12 , she loved the beach .
I was going to buy her a house on the beach . I was going to , you know , make this money and do this thing and give her this life . And she worked all this time to make sure she was a single mom with two boys , you know , and so I loved it , and so I just , yeah , like hearing your story .
Your story is amazing , from what they shared , so you were born with complications .
Yeah , so I essentially , when I was born , I essentially had a stroke , so I was born with a condition called left frontal cystic liosis . I have a little bit of limited mobility and so when I was born I wasn't supposed to walk talk . Doctors told me I wasn't going to probably have much or any quality of life , very much .
The doctors told my parents that you know , I worked through that , of course , and you know , andy , you , david Goggins , jocko , all those types of mentalities , cause I played a little bit of a victim , like probably would you know , but then you know , hearing , like man , you were the ownership . You take ownership of your life .
You take your bag of shit and you make it what it is and like it just flipped that switch . And I mean now 26 , I run ultra marathons , I work out six days a week Like and I'm . I believe that I can build a life like what Sal and Andy and everybody talks about . Like you are , you can build whatever the fuck you want in life .
I fully believe that I'm going to make damn sure that when I leave this earth that I did everything I could and I left it all out there when I leave this earth that I did everything I could and I left it all out there .
That's unbelievable . Yeah , will you do me a favor ? Read that burn statement out loud . So I just want to share this real quick . This is so powerful . I was sitting with Sal and Andy after we got our workout in and Austin went by and they're like now that kid , what an amazing story , what a fighter he is .
And they mentioned the ultra marathons and all that little did I know I'd walk in the locker room . We'd get to hang out just chat talking about coach Cochran at Bama Bama fan check this out , bama fans since he was a little kid .
And then for him to share that when Sal had me come in and just drop a little fire for the Monday morning sales meeting , that when I talked about the burn , it helped Austin connect even deeper . I already read it but if you don't mind reading it , it's super powerful . Yeah , so connecting my burn .
I wasn't supposed to live a life this sweet , so every day that I get the opportunity to put two feet on the floor is not one I'm going to waste .
You read that every day when you come in here .
Oh yeah , every single day I wasn't supposed to live . Doctors told me that or told my parents that we just don't know , like don't expect so every day that I'm living on borrowed time the way I see it . So yeah , I'm gonna give all I can every day I'm gonna make sure I look myself in the mirror and whether it was a good day or was a bad day .
Hey , I laid it all out there in the line and wake up tomorrow do it again .
And you do it for your mom every day .
Oh yeah , my mom , for the people that have poured into me . Like you know , I just look at it . Like you know , I didn't have to have the opportunity to work here . I didn't have the opportunity . I didn't have to get to do all this stuff . I get to be around influential people that care about me , want to invest in the young people .
It's not something I take for advantage , not a fucking single second . It's amazing . Yeah , thank you . I look forward to seeing you every time .
I come in here . Yeah , it's great . Appreciate you , brother . God bless you . Thank you so much for having me . Yeah , absolutely , absolutely , Anytime . If there's anything else I can ever do , just hit me up , yeah of course , yeah me as well , man . Let me make sure I follow you too . Yeah , I love it . I do hard shit sometimes , man , that's awesome .
Thank you .
Man , that's awesome . I'm so glad I got to meet you .
Thank you , I appreciate .
I appreciate it . I appreciate you taking the time . I know you're a busy guy . Oh no , we're all busy , so I appreciate it . It was great meeting you . We'll see you soon . Thanks , Austin .
