Overcome Limiting Beliefs and Thrive - Entrepreneurial Success
Do you keep wondering why you’re unable to achieve the goals you’ve set despite doing everything right? If so, it’s time to unleash the positive power of your beliefs to help you create your ideal business and ideal life.
You might be holding onto negative or limiting beliefs. From undercutting your efforts to doubting yourself, limiting beliefs can do a lot of harm. The opposite is also true—positive beliefs can unleash a hidden power you never knew you had!
Thankfully, negative beliefs are flexible and can be changed. Let’s see how this works.
Power of Belief: The Good and the Bad
Our beliefs make us and shape what we become. They act as our guiding principles in life, telling us which directions to take as we navigate various circumstances.
We’ve all been told that we should be careful about what we believe in—and it’s true. When you believe that you’re not going to meet your targeted sales or revenue for the year, you’re probably going to stop exerting effort into achieving that goal. When you think you’re going to hit a goal or goals and succeed, you’re going to work harder and make sure that your success is guaranteed.
Positive Beliefs
Placebos show the positive power of belief. There are many cases in medical history when patients altered their physiology and cured their disorders by simply believing in the effectiveness of their treatments.
Positive beliefs can give you a power boost when you’re working toward achieving a personal, career, or financial goal. For example, if you’re saving up to buy a car, positive beliefs will help you put your plans into practice.
I had the great fortune to meet Dr. Bernie Siegel many years ago at a conference where he was speaking, and his stories have had a profound impact on my life about the power of believing. In an article, he wrote: “The mind and faith are powerful tools for both care providers and patients. The cousin of my father-in-law’s nurse’s aide was told she was terminal with leukemia and that chemotherapy was a waste of time. When the aide heard this, she suggested that the patient be in my care. “Doctor Siegel makes people well all the time,” she said. After the patient’s hospital admission, I told her that I could not treat her but that I could recommend an oncologist and we parted with a hug.
In private, my oncologist friend told me he agreed with her original doctor’s diagnosis that she was terminal, but he would treat her and give her hope. His letters to me reflected hope and thus began with words like, “doing well,” and after many months of treatment they ended with, “in complete remission.” She eventually went home to drive her own doctor nuts. Later she told her cousin: “When Doctor Siegel hugged me I knew I would get well.”
I know patients who left their troubles to God and had their cancer disappear. That is called self-induced healing and not spontaneous remission. There is so much we can learn from exceptional patients about survival behavior. Ask them why they didn’t die, rather than saying what doctors tend to say, “You are doing very well. Whatever you’re doing keep it up.” This safe response means the doctor learns nothing from their patients. Personality characteristics and survival are inseparable.
There is much we can learn from these patients about survival behavior.”
Limiting Beliefs
Limiting beliefs are a type of belief or mindset that restricts you from taking action toward your goals.
Let’s see how it works using the same example I used earlier. If you want to buy a car but don’t believe that you can, you won’t try to save up for it. You probably won’t even make plans that will help you own one.
Naturally, everybody wants to have positive beliefs toward their goals. As you’re listening to this, you’re probably wishing the same. Fortunately, it’s easy to make your thoughts and beliefs more positive.
There’s only one obstacle to tackle first: overcoming your limiting beliefs!
How To Overcome Your Limiting Beliefs?
Here are 5 steps you can put into practice today to overcome your limiting beliefs:
1. Identify Limiting Beliefs and Their Consequences
Limiting beliefs can be hidden from ourselves but there are ways to reveal them. Use self-reflection, journaling, coaching, or feedback to find your limiting beliefs.
Once you’ve found a few, consider the consequences if you allow those beliefs to turn into reality.
2. Challenge Limiting Beliefs
This involves taking a closer look at your limiting beliefs and questioning their validity. Consider their source, logic, probability, etc.
The aim is to remove baseless beliefs from your mindset and find real limitations that you need to work on.
3. Seek Support
Therapy and coaching can help if you’re struggling with steps one and two. As an entrepreneur, hypnotherapy, therapy, and coaching can help you speed up the process and achieve a positive mindset much faster.
4. Adopt More Positive Beliefs
Replace your limiting beliefs with positive ones. When you always say to yourself, “I’m not a good speaker,” you continue to reaffirm that belief. Instead, say something like, “With practice and persistence, I am a good/great speaker.”
5. Practice Them
Take time to support your positive beliefs. If you’re working to become a better speaker, join classes that will help you and practice in front of the mirror. Act in a way that supports your new beliefs and say affirming statements to yourself.
Harnessing the Power of Belief To Achieve Your Goals
Once you’ve rid your mind of limiting thoughts, it’s time to replace them with beliefs that put you into the mindset for greater success. Here’s how you replace negative beliefs with positive ones.
Affirmations and Positive Self-Talk
Both of these strategies help you fill your mind with positive thoughts and accelerate your results. Affirmations can be practiced daily and involve repeating them to yourself so you can be in the right mindset to work toward your goals.
Meanwhile, practicing positive self-talk involves encouraging yourself to stay optimistic and focus on the positives, especially when facing challenges.
· Visualization
Visualization revolves around the idea that imagining a result as vividly as possible will help it manifest. It involves focusing on positive mental images that help us feel confident about our ability to achieve our goals.
Visualization is more than just daydreaming. It's a scientifically proven technique that can help you train your brain to work for you, not against you. Studies show visualization can improve motivation, coordination, and concentration, while reducing fear and anxiety. Meditation can also help you rewire your mind, so it starts looking at failures and obstacles as lessons and learning opportunities to grow and be even more successful.
· Gratitude
Gratitude is a positive feeling that will help your mind move toward positive thinking. You can practice anywhere and anytime. Simply find a spot where you won’t be disturbed and make a list of everything you’re grateful for.
A gratitude journal is a tool used to write down things you are thankful for on a daily or regular basis. Keeping a gratitude journal has several benefits, including:
1. Increased positive emotions.
2. Improved mental health.
3. Better sleep.
4. Increased resilience.
