Episode description

Confidence doesn’t always come naturally to everyone, and it often needs to be built. For people putting in the work to build confidence in themselves and all that they do, it can pay off immensely and lead to even greater success. When you believe in yourself, you set the bar higher and create opportunities for yourself to rise to the top, as you would expect.

Let’s explore five ways that increased confidence leads to a more successful business and life.

Being confident enough to set boundaries also protects your mental health. Rather than doing activities you don’t need to do and becoming resentful later on, you can protect your mental bandwidth and just pick and choose what you want to work on. More time, and a greater mental bandwidth, equals even greater success.

Building confidence is not something you do overnight—the choices you make, the mindset you embody, and the people you surround yourself with, all contribute to your increased confidence. With confidence, you’ll be more comfortable asking questions, taking risks, talking to others about your business, setting boundaries, and reaching for the stars. With practice, you’ll see how even greater confidence can lead you to even greater success.

1. Confidence Allows You to Ask Questions

Curiosity is underrated, and one of the things that can hold us back from asking questions is a lack of confidence! Feeling confident enough to ask questions when you don’t know something is how you continue to learn and grow. It’s okay not to know everything and feeling secure in that fact gives you the space to discover answers you may not previously have had or thought existed.

With greater confidence, you also feel more empowered to ask for what you want. That could mean the difference between getting a big contract or super ideal client for your business or not, simply because you had the confidence to ask for it.

2. Confidence Takes Power Away From Fear

Fear in business could be fear of failure, fear of the unknown, or fear of growth, but either way, it overshadows the ability to succeed in business. When we take away power from the words “failure” or “fear”, we give greater power to words like “success” and “self-confidence.”

When you’re confident in your abilities, you know that you can overcome any challenges that inevitably come your way. That doesn’t mean that when you are confident you won’t fail or have hiccups along the way—that means that you’re confident that even if you do fail, you’ll either figure it out or start over and rebuild.

Fear can often paralyze us from moving forward and getting the results you want; however, when you build confidence in yourself, you’re able to move past that paralysis and get the right activities done.

3. Confidence Lets You Set Boundaries

Saying yes or no takes confidence, and it is necessary to set clear boundaries both in your professional and your personal life.

By having the confidence to say “no” to things like doing a task yourself instead of delegating it, taking on an unnecessary meeting with a non-ideal client (who isn’t profitable), or activities that generally take up time, you’re setting boundaries to protect your time, which is a finite resource.

Being confident enough to set boundaries also protects your mental health. Rather than doing activities you don’t need to do and becoming resentful later on, you can protect your mental bandwidth and just pick and choose what you want to work on. More time, and a greater mental bandwidth, equals even greater success.

4. Confidence Helps You Raise Your Own Bar

Not only can confidence help you face the challenges in front of you, but it can also teach you that you can do more than you think. You may have certain revenue goals, with numbers that you want to hit each quarter. And as you hit them, your confidence increases and pushes you to set the bar even higher next time.

A willful mindset is a powerful thing, and putting your mind to something is easier when you have the confidence to reach your goals and exceed them. It allows you to take risks, which can propel you into greater success for your business.

Start by setting smaller goals for yourself. As you accomplish these smaller goals, it gives you the confidence to set bigger goals. The more you accomplish, the more you know you can accomplish.

5. Confidence Makes You a Better Leader

When you exude confidence, your team members can feel it emanating from you, and it often powers their confidence as well. If you’re holding a company-wide meeting and talking about the vision for your business with the utmost confidence, your employees can see your vision and believe as much as you do in all that you’ll accomplish together.

On the contrary, if you’re a less confident person, it’s harder for your employees to trust that your business will continue growing and moving forward. When it comes to a long-term vision, it’s important to balance confident speech with showing the proper actions, and how you’ll get to where you want to be. It’s one thing to just speak about something with confidence, but your team also needs the transparency of how you plan to get there.
