Episode description

Do you want to boost your business’ profitability and more quickly lead your company to even greater success? Many times, the best thing we can do is look at how others achieved their success that we want for ourselves. So, if you want to experience and enjoy your ideal business and ideal life, let’s look at what wealthy people are doing. You may not be able to afford their limos, mansions, and designer clothes just yet; however, their successful habits are free for you to adopt, as soon as you are ready.

What is the definition of a habit?

So we are all on the same page, a habit is something that a person does often in a regular and repeated way.  It is any regularly repeated behavior that requires little or no thought and is learned rather than innate. A habit—which can be part of any activity, ranging from eating and sleeping to thinking and reacting—is developed through reinforcement and repetition.

Let’s now take a look at the 12 success habits that wealthy, self-made people have in common.

Self-made millionaires agree on one thing—building wealth is a multi-faceted approach, and habits play a huge part in it. Thankfully, it costs little to nothing to adopt these 12 wealth-building behaviors. With a little effort, patience, and persistence, you can make one, two, or all of these habits part of your life to help you achieve the wealth you’ve been dreaming of!

12 Success Habits of Wealthy People that Cost Little to Nothing

1. Wake up Early

Waking up early makes us more energetic and optimistic. It also gives us more hours to prepare for the day.

Many successful and wealthy people start their days early. Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, starts his day between 4 am and 5 am. Starbucks CEO, Howard Schultz, is up by 4:30 am. Meanwhile, business magnate Richard Branson sets his alarm for 5 am to 6 am.

Wealthy people use those extra hours in the morning to start their day on a positive note and get ahead of everyone else. Most wealthy people wake up early to journal, exercise, meditate, think of what they are grateful for the day to come, find personal time, etc.

2. Exercise

Regular exercise helps us stay fit and healthy so we can carry out our daily activities more easily.

Wealthy people recognize the short and long-term benefits of exercise very well. They understand that it keeps their bodies and minds in a healthy state. Many successful people also exercise in the morning to reap its mood-enhancing benefits.

3. Meditate

The wealthy use meditation to manage their stress, improve their focus, and become more self-aware. It is a no-cost habit that can help you in any stage of life.

Many high achievers and billionaires attribute their success to meditation. Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates cited meditation as a great tool for improving his focus. Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff meditates. Legendary billionaire investor Ray Dalio has stated that meditation is the single most important reason for his incredible track record of success.

You can practice meditation through mindfulness activities, self-reflection, body scans, prayers, chanting, box breathing, and other techniques you may prefer.  For example, when in high-stress situations, it's crucial to remain calm and think clearly. Navy SEALs use box breathing as a quick way to get the nervous system under control. The technique helps them stay focused and precise during critical operations.

4. Network

Whether it’s a lunch meeting or happy hour, wealthy people make time for networking. They use their networks to exchange ideas, find innovative solutions, be inspired, and reap the benefits of teamwork.

5. Read

The wealthy are always finding ways to grow their knowledge and improve their lives. And they make sure to read as much as possible.

However, wealthy people typically tend to be more focused on reading history books, biographies, and self-help books instead of fiction.

6. Show Gratitude

Wealthy people don’t take anything for granted. They make sure to thank the people around them, which helps them develop a positive perception and a grateful attitude. They make it a habit to thank people for their efforts with words, gifts, and cards.

A gratitude journal is a tool used to write down things you are thankful for on a daily or regular basis. Keeping a gratitude journal has several benefits, including:

1. Increased positive emotions.

2. Improved mental health.

3. Better sleep.

4. Increased resilience.

5. Improved relationships.

6. Increased mindfulness.

Overall, keeping a gratitude journal can be a powerful tool for improving your mental and emotional well-being, and enhancing your overall quality of life. Download my complimentary Gratitude Journal exercise book by going to https://www.accountabilitycoach.com/gratitude/.

7. Write Your To-Do List the Night Before

To-do lists are used by the wealthy and successful to identify their priorities for the following day. Making a list the night before gives them ample time to prepare for the day ahead and to ensure their success.

8. Manage Your Money

No matter how much or how little money you have, knowing how to manage money is important. The wealthy are more economical in their spending and saving habits than regular folks.

They’re also wiser about their investments. They take time to carefully study and understand how investment instruments work. During research, they thoroughly familiarize themselves with how they can potentially lose and earn money from their investments and transactions.

9. Set Specific Goals and Visualize

Setting goals and visualizing them is a powerful strategy for ensuring your success. The practice requires you to write down your goals as specifically as possible, which makes it easier to create a game plan and achieve them.

It also helps you stay focused throughout the day.

10. Take Breaks

Successful people take frequent breaks during the day to relax and recharge between their work commitments.

Taking short breaks helps you remain calm which improves your focus, efficiency, and effectiveness. Your breaks can involve simply taking a breath, meditating, enjoying a 10–15-minute nap, walking around the block, having a cup of tea, or soaking in a bath, etc.

11. Prioritize Personal Care

Personal care and hygiene help you set a good example for those around you. It also prevents you from getting sick and spreading illness. This, in turn, improves your self-confidence and positively impacts your relationships.

Personal hygiene and care can involve a complex bedtime regimen or a simple morning shower. Anything works as long as it has a positive impact on the rest of your day.

12. Eat Healthy

Wealthy people eat healthy to maintain their overall well-being. They understand the role food plays in ensuring their energy levels are high and maintaining their concentration at work.

They also rarely skip breakfast.
